got this from neoGAF so I might as well copy paste most of it
Until yesterday, everyone in the international community was laughing at this engine and its inventor, Roger Sawyer. It's called the EmDrive and everyone said it was impossible because it went against the laws of physics. But the fact is that the quantum vacuum plasma thruster works in the lab and scientists can't explain why.
Basically it gives us the ability to have fuel-less engines in space, we would no longer be limited by fuel limitations in terms of space travel. We could keep them on and keep going faster and faster, a trip to mars could take a week instead of 6 months.
NASA doesnt know why it works, its troll science, but they were able to replicate it like the Chinese did. Its reality but we dont know why.
a new age is cumming, more links 4 proof
Edit:I'll be updating the links as more info/coverage is released

Holy -blam!-ing -blam!-! Thank you for bringing this to my attention! I'm not even trolling I'm excited as -blam!- about this!
-
Why dont they run on solar power Lol
-
lmao i'm just imagining what the thought process is here lead man: "okay so turn it on" worker man: "but sir it has no chance of worki-" lead man: "do i look like a give a sh1t" worker man: "okay fine but it'll nev-" *it works* worker man: "what the hell it works?" lead man: "lmao outta my way i'm off to titan" and then lead man went to titan
-
So if nobody knows how it works... how did the guy build it in the first place?
-
Yes, my sci-fi dreams might come true while i'm still alive and i'm only 16!
-
I never actually believed I'd live to see my sci-fi dreams slowly come true, and I just turned 20... *joyous tears*
-
I'll just leave this here.
-
Isn't it supposed to be interacting with anti-matter that continuously pops in and out of existence?

-
Did they debunk it yet? It cannae drive?
-
Oh shit are going to find the Traveler on Mars????
-
I get a kick out of how many people are saying "it breaks current scientific laws, therefore it's wrong!" So science is an organized religion now? We can't question it? *flings keks at comments in thread*
Yes, it seems impossible, but having a negative mindset about this project for no reason seems like a really weird form of butthurt
-
Well you know what they say if something seems impossible it's more likely to be done. We are a defiant race that way.
-
[science boner intensifies]
-
NASA managed to replicate the effects, though they found it produced significantly less thrust than the Chinese team managed (what this is down to I wont speculate), though its really exciting that this technology is possible!
-
Holy crap I'm not insane after all. I told my friend this and he wanted proof but when I went pull it up I couldn't find it. Well how random to find it in the forums.
-
I'll just leave this here.

It's a highly contested paper, and a lot of the hype is coming from non-scientific folks that see the word 'quantum' and immediately disregard skepticism. It's okay to not understand the physics behind something, but don't start claiming something is revolutionary or feasible at the first sign of a successful test.

Edited by risay_117: 8/3/2014 12:07:42 PMSo far does not mean anything. If anything check reddit and there is good reason to doubt it. But there is a small chance it is true. Also the result do not make sense which is why the scientific community are trying to figure out ehat is wrong. If true we will need to create a theory to explain it, and why the current rules of physics failed.

Edited by Yuu: 8/1/2014 11:09:25 PMApparently we can reach Mars in weeks and Proxima Centauri in about 30 years if scaled up to that level. This needs to be done.
-
-blam!- you physics, humanity will always adapt and overcome.
-
Nope. Won't happen.
-
I want to get to get off of here but such things probably won't happen in our lifetimes. If it costs SpaceX around 100 million dolllars(?) right now for a trip to the space station, what more when this starts to get put into practical use to go even further?
-
So pretty much we can go fast and faster with this engine. So really we could populate our solar system easily now with this engine. Me like me like a lot
Halo anyone?
-
I find the plausible methods of these exotic mechanics very arousing!
-
But... Conservation of momentum... Honestly, it doesn't seem physically possible unless I'm missing something.
