How I think Destiny Leveling will work

I made a post about this before but i think it go deleted so this is basically this is the same post that i made earlier but edited based on updates. Many people are complaining about the level 20 cap, but the game doesn't really have a level cap. All the level is what can you unlock, and what can you equip. Both subclasses will have separate levels. Im pretty sure the game will have 2 subclasses and maybe a 3rd in DLC but it hasn't really been talked about. Basically you will start as your first subclass(Voidwalker,Gunslinger,Striker) then you get 15 with that current subclass. After you hit 15 you will unlock your second subclass (Sunsinger, Bladedancer, Defender). Both subclasses should cap out at 20 so the cap would really be 40. Also if you played the Beta long enough after you reach 8 and keep earning xp you would earn extra skills. You earn skills based on xp not on level. Level just determines what skills you can unlock. Same goes with weapons and armor but without the level part. You earn xp while using that gear and you will eventually earn upgrades for it. If Level 40 is the cap, you can still "level" with the motes of lights to earn legendary gear. Even with the level 40 cap there can be a possibility of keep going with DLC if Bungie decides to go at it like borderlands did. Also in the IGN video above you notice that he is Level 29, But his Striker class is capped out at 20. Either his Defender class is at 9 or he earned enough motes of light that would earn him level 29. THIS IS JUST MY THEORY.

  • This is how it works: You are correct in saying that each subclass caps out at level 20, though having them both at 20 doesn't really mean you're level 40. It'll still only say 20 as your level in your character menu. After you hit 20, you can still increase your displayed level by equipping gear with the Light stat on it. The higher your cumulative light stat is from all of your equipped gear, the higher your level will be above 20. This means that your effective level can increase to upwards of level 30, but with no gear equipped, you'll never surpass 20 in the base game.
