Destiny and its T Rating...

I don't think Bungie can be thanked enough or my appreciation voiced enough for their decision to make Destiny a T Rated game. I know for many this isn't significant and its an easy thing to throw aside, but I'm thrilled with it for a number of reasons. I have an 11-year old son who desperately wants to be more involved in the modern video game space. But the vast majority of bigger important games are M rated which leaves him out. Destiny gives him and others like him a chance to play the games that everyone is talking about. No sports. No kiddie titles. A genuine top tier game and he is thrilled. He loved the Beta and he's ready for the full experience. He can join me in talking about the game and in sharing our experiences. It's great. Thank you Bungie. This was a great decision and a proving point that all big titles don't have to be M Rated. This opens the game space up to our next generation of gamers, and from a personal stance it has added some more enjoyment in our household. Now bring on 9/9/14. (Edit - Just for clarity, I do understand the ESRB gives the ratings. But they only rate what the developers create. It's this Bungie creation that earned the T rating and that is what I'm applauding.)

  • destiny for kids. Yer bungie games are all way full of kids. That's right some of the best friends I had on xbox 360 was kids. I love a game with older men too. I don't mind playing destiny by myself either. It's a great game all round.

Thats one of the things I do not like about this game. T Rating means mostly less creativity, because you have to create all the barriers just to reach the T Rating. T Rating-Design make a FPS game worse and its a fact! When you dont care about ratings, you have much more freedom as developer. After i played the beta i saw too many things that Bungie made just only to reach T Rating, and its disgusting. Even Halo was M rated and the game was like a Disney game. CoD is M rated and its a best seller game like GTA. But sure, a T rated game is easy money, but with less quality. Destiny is a game about war, you shoot someone with a rocket launcher in the face and nothing happens, no flying body parts and no blood. No naked dancers in The Tower, no drugs in this game, what is this? This is so called life, and its a part of us, but yes we need to create a game for children just to make more money, this is pathetic. Look at WW1 and WW2 and look at Destiny, and laugh again. Dont get me wrong, Destiny is a very good game, but Destiny universe would never reach the quality and depth of Mass Effect or Fallout 3 universe. The developers of this games dont care about ratings, they just put all the crazy stuff and dont give a shit about the rest. Adult community and T Rating community in 1 game is a total disaster.

We appreciate your thanks. Glad that you can play with your boy. The thing is, we didn't make a T-rated game. We just made a game. The ESRB is the one that decided the rating.

          • Destiny needs blood, death, and repulsing creatures. I know it helped bring more of the younger games in but I'm sorry, Destiny need this stuff. Destiny is all about war, and there needs to be more blood and violent actions because it would really suck you into the story more. I want to shoot an -blam!-ing fallen's arms of and watch the blood fly for them killing our family's and friends, NOT shot him and watch him fade into blue light. This game was made around War, Revenge, and Survival... Why is it the way it is. Don't get me rong, Halo 2 was my favorite for a long time till this point. All i wish is for the more blood, scary, violent parts... That's all. I'll be making a post about this so if you would like to support the M, search tag "DestinyM". Become Legend! Link to my clan above.

            • -Has an 11 year old son- -Won't let him play mature games because he isn't an adult- -Lets him play Teen games even though he isn't a teen yet- hue hue hue I will be the first to admit that I am a little overzealous on the rating system. I commend you on not letting your 11 year old play M rated games. That is a lot better than most parents out there who don't regulate what games their kids play at all. Is it really okay though for you to allow your 11 year old to play games meant for teenagers? I will grant you that he is past the point where he can't distinguish fact from fiction, but they rated it Teen for a reason. is it really okay to expose your child to the final game? I in no way mean to offend you or judge you as a parent, I am honestly curious why you are choosing to let your son play this game. If the joke at the beginning of my comment offend you I will remove it. I look forward to hearing your response.

              • You know, my dad let me watch Aliens on VHS as a kid and even though that was rated R. It forever set the standard for me as to the quality of movies. Its a violent movie obviously. Was I too young, probably. But my dad was a good father to me. It's not about what you expose your children to. It's what they take from it. As long as your child learns more from you than what the world teaches them they'll be fine. It's when children lean more from what the world/society says than their own parents that you need to worry. You are your child's foundation in their life not a game. But I'm not a parent so I can pass no judgment nor would I even if I was. Not my right.

                    • I've seen plenty of bad parents buy their children All sorts of M rated titles including upper echelon M rated games liked GTA V and Saints row. There's a point when parents need to be parents and stop being friends. Be responsible. "Oh he's played them all before" "But all his friends are playing it, I don't want him to be left out" "I don't care" Some parents simply want to shut their kids up and keep then far away from themselves. Others are driven by some misguided attempts to "help" their children fit in. It is bizarre the weirdest response is from the overtly aggressive parent who takes the explanation of why a game is M-Rated as a blow to their child's capabilities, masculinity or what have you. You wouldn't take them to see and r-rated movie, you shouldn't let them play these games. I'm glad destiny is T-rated. Op you are in the right track

                          • The 11 year olds are why I have stopped using my headset and mic on xbox live. I'm sure your son is a well behaved champion of the little people, but being cursed out by frustrated/overreacting children isn't a memory I want to have about destiny. Mature content brings more serious and more encompassing gameplay and feel. I like a game to be a little more gritty than Destiny looks. It makes the player feel the struggle for survival, the peaks and lows of combat. Yes Destiny has tough gameplay, but they have sacrificed feeling for a larger audience.
