What do you think the lvl cap is, Guardians?
As we've seen throughout the beta, level 20 gear was displayed through the crucible vendors and ship vendors in the tower.

If so, wouldn't you think getting there would be fast and easy? I mean we did get to level 8 in about 3 hours. Of course the required experience would go up, but for an experienced grinder like me...enough said.
[b]NO[/b] I believe the cap would be in the 40-50 range, solely because in other MMOs this is the MO. It works well because there are multiple steps of progress in gear for pvp and pve making for a good item finding and earning experience.

Author's Edit: Something to ponder, will expansions ever raise the hard cap as we've seen in WoW? (Sorry for bringing it up and the possible shitstorm to come if it does)
Author's Reply: A cap is the [b]ULTIMATE[/b] and [b]HIGHEST[/b] level obtainable. I don't care about soft caps, they're irrelevant and aren't a cap if can be exceeded.

1 ReplyAlso I believe the beta was at 3x the exp gain. And at higher levels it will take a lot more exp to gain a level. Tho this is still a lot faster than I would like but we have to think of those who only play 3-5 hours a week. They'll take around 6-8 weeks to reach the lv20 cap and they want everyone to hit that cap as soon as possible. Not just so we're all on equal ground in pvp but so that we all want the DLC when it comes out. Why would you buy DLC that adds 10 levels to the cap if you haven't even hit the lv20 cap. I know I'll be lv30+ before the end of the week, but that's me. I only work 30hrs and have no kids and my gf knows I'm a gamer.

3 RepliesThe cap is 20. Every level after that has to do with motes of light and specific armors. However, lets say your 29, and you take off the gear with the motes, guess what, you go back to 20. And, Definition of a level cap is a permanent level in which is the highest that can be obtained. So again, these extra levels arent permanent.

Well we know that technically lvl 20 is just the crucible lvl cap. This is so everybody is on equal playing ground quicker. Then you can level up to at least 40 for everything else probably. Hodor.

Edited by mr maphazar: 8/5/2014 7:23:32 PMWell with gear having a max light level of 30 and 118 light levels gives you +9 levels and there is 4/5 bits of clothing and if it's applicable to your weapons (I think it is) then I think the max level will be hit at lv35. There are people who've done the math (lv29>118 light levels) can't remember who but think it was datto? So 8x30= 240 if all gear can gain light then I think that puts us around lv35? Please someone who's good at math work this out!

When expansions come out with new strikes, raids, etc., I think the level cap will go up 15 each time. 4 expansions would put us at 100. This type of model would keep me invested in the game for a long time. Edited from guess of 30 to 40 due to photo posted showing level 33 Titan.

1 Replyfor now the base lvl cap is 20 but through mote of light or light you can reach higher and for now i think it will stop at 30 until they raise it higher is DLC

It's called a "soft cap" ie there is no gear that needs a higher level than 20 and you do not naturally progress above lv20. Light levels are got from gaining motes of light that are used on "golden" armour, it take 118 light levels to get to lv29. Someone's already done the math on YouTube. Think it was Dattodoesdestiny. You should check his tips and tricks and about weapon damage/elemental information, very useful.

Well we've seen a lvl 29 guardian nearly level 30. I think the HIGHES level possible with the best gear.... 35/40 on release. This will of course get higher with the introduction of expansions.

5 RepliesThe latest video shows a 28 and 29 so I'm guessing 30 or 50. Though the subclass stats at 20. Total! Char lvl increases beyond. It is proven its not simply 20 tho...

We have seen a level 29 person, where it clearly says HE IS STILL LEVEL 20! http://i.imgur.com/J6x9f9q.jpg You can call this a soft cap all you want, but getting past level 20 by killing or exp is impossible. So the answer to your question is we dont know. The more "light" sstat you have, the bigger your level. This is of course assuming that it does not plateau at some point past level 30. Either you equip the armor pieces that give you the most light, which is how you might attain the "ultimate" level, (assuming you got to level 20 normally) or your light stat can only increase so much that your progress plateaus out somewhere above level 30.

level cap stops at 20. after 20 you earn what are called "motes of light" use to purchase essentially higher level gear
