End-Game Raids - NO Matchmaking

Today IGN ran an article with a lot more info on end game raids. I'm very disappointing to find out that Bungie is not offering matchmaking for these. You have to find a party of six friends, or you're out of luck. Why create a barrier for people to enjoy endgame content? This seriously dulls the shine of Destiny's long term appeal. Basically unless you can find (or beg) other people to join you - you miss out on all the best loot towards the end. Some people want to just get online and play, they don't want to be forced to have to track down people. Why make it harder to enjoy content, it is ridiculous imo.

  • Wouldn't it just be "raid" instead of "raids"

  • Good God folks. How hard is it to play a little free roam or go to the Tower and invite some people to your fireteam? Raids are end game content anyway. So will have a fair amount of time to come up with 6 people to raid with.

  • I love how the people complaining about us wanting mm for raids has given no thought to how many times they could jump on mm for that last 1 or 2 people to fill their full 6. I rarely play with friends even on my fl, I mostly use mm for convenience and play with randoms and can tell you that you'd be hard pressed to find a better team mate. I'm also a Halo vet so I'm already good at Destiny.

  • I'm sure you don't NEED to find 5 people. It might be impossible but you will probably be able to raid with just a few friends too

    • heya, ok so you still have to add people but i still wanted to let you know i have a list compiled of gamers across the 4 platforms along with their countries and class choice(if any). its not the answer but it may help build a raiding team relationship over the time! http://www.bungie.net/en/Forum/Post/66276007/0/0

    • I'm not super thrilled about this either. The option should at least be there if people want/need it. Even as a member of an organized gaming clan forming raid team schedules is difficult. People have responsibilities such as kids, work, school etc that make it difficult to put a group of people together that are all online at the same time. Yeah, running raids with pugs sucks but its better than not being able to run raids at all. I think this is gonna hurt the game and keep a lot of people on the back burner. At the very least, the tower needs to have a party finder where players can team up and run the raid. Right now we dont even have local chat for players to say "Hey, anybody wanna run Vault of Glass with me?"

    • I sort of understand. If these raids are as demanding as they say then what you could find is up to half the team could pull out. And that would be worse than ever starting the raid in the first place. My suggestion would be to find a good tight knit clan (there are plenty around). I know if I was doing a raid with fellow clans men and women I would never give up, we'd all see it through to the end.

    • Maaaan so many console players who whine about nothing...dude add some randoms while doing fire team strikes do this often, by the time you have finally geared enough to level 25 their should be a huge list if friends to say hey want to go fail in a raid.taa daa you have the experience of match making.

    • They need to add matchmaking, I totaly understand why they dont want to as it is designed for proper teams. BUT YOU HAVE TO GIVE YOUR CONSUMERS THE OPTION. If my clan mates are not Online to do a Raid and I wanna play NOW!, wtf I DO? I have to WAIT...I dont care if randoms frustrate me during it I just wanna play it at that moment. Dont LOCK out that content.

      • Every single pair of randoms i grabbed through matchmaking for the strike let me down. The sad truth about modern day gaming is almost everyone is bad at anything difficult and bungie understands this. They know they would have to nerf the dfficulty if they added matchmaking. I am glad they didnt. Its really not that hard to go on your favorite forum & add people who claim to be good at the raid. Going online & putting together a party is the same as matchmaking. You just have to do a little extra work. Besides how would you enjoy the content if your getting owned over & over? If the average player is bad at the easy devils lair strike how hard do u think people will be failing at this raid if it had matchmaking?

          • Have you played mmos you have to have a certain number of party members for raids to do end game content they aren't doing anything that is different. It just seems like console players don't have any clue about mmos and complain about stuff that they have no understanding of it.

            • Yeah honestly people are saying were antisocial for not having that many friends, but it's game apparently wants you to be antisocial. It doesn't want you to meet new people in raids, and only wants you to play with a group of friends. Makes sense.

              • Pretty much to reiterate what has been said, but raids will not be your average walk in the park. Deej has said via interview that raids will NOT be for everyone. I hate to say it, but I don't think this content will be viable for the casual gamer. Either get friends who are willing to suffer through it with you, or don't worry about it. WoW tried match-making for raids, and that was a big flop (I assume it still is, but can't verify as I don't play WoW anymore). If people complain about losing simply in Crucible, imagine the whining about pug groups in raids. And the last thing Bungie needs to do is make end-game content easy and trivial. Nothing will kill a game faster than that.

              • it could be okay, IF they actually get a good chat system going for the game and you can make frineds while leveling, and clans work right.

I think it is important to understand that you are not being forced to do anything with the end game content. You can get on and be as casual as you like, as was explained in the video, especially with the nightfall activities. The raids simply demand more individual investment, as well as cooperative play. They aren't the kind of content you can jump in and just cruise through with randoms. You have to be able to communicate and communicate effectively, the best way to do that is play with friends. On the flip side of that, there is nothing stopping you from sending friend requests to the randoms you see in the world or at the tower. Hell, those ransoms could be the missing ingredient for your domination of the raids, which is why Bungie has set it up this way. If you have the friends already, party on! If you don't have five friends online, but want to try and tackle a raid or weekly nightfall, take a chance on the people that are around. You don't need matchmaking to accomplish this, and in my opinion, matchmaking would make it easier for people to not be motivated to achieve the teams goals. For that reason, I support the lack of matchmaking, because it challenges those that want to to make new friends in the world of Destiny, not simply jump in and out of the hardest content the game has to offer.

                • Raids are going to be too long and require too much coordination to function properly in a matchup of random people.

                • It's an ordinary function in most mmo's (and I know destiny isn't technically an mmo so don't go there) if you have public matchmaking, you end up playing with a lot of people who aren't ready to raid but think they are. Then your next trip to the forum will be to bitch about how all your groups in raids suck just like people complained about getting their ass kicked in iron banner cus their team sucked. Be social, join a raid squad, make some friends that play, join a clan, there are so many ways to get around there being no matchmaking. And people will complain if they add matchmaking, you can't win
