For those who want trading, trading should only occur between clan members and only after a specific time of clan membership. This will only generate long term team based play, so like having a clan accessed vault. That way clan members can help each other. So for eg: Create a clan. Build clan rep to access clan vault. Be a member of a that clan for 'X' period of time. Material and Encyption trading only (no gear in vault). Or only gear within at set tradable time limit to other clan members, so fireteams can help each other gear up. So basically no open trade format but fireteam/clan team building trades. This way a story is still attached, teamwork is promoted and gear is not devalued as it still must be what is within the mission completed by the guardians involved in it. (So during basically strike / raid encounters is only time gear can be traded for say a 15min time after drop between fireteam members) So this is not really trade but fireteam/clan sharing to help progression.
