So, I have a totally random and, at least at the moment, unprovable theory about the origin of the Exo. Obviously, in the Grimoire cards they're described as sentient war machines that were during some war in the past, but how they were made and everything is a mystery.
Well, the sentience bit irked my curiosity (I'm a philosophy student) and my theory is that, in some way, numerous humans and their consciousness was transferred over to Exo units (via Matrix style or Nozick's experience machine). More durable bodies with human intelligence for warfare, basically.
Anyway, take it or leave it as you will, it was just a thought I had while playing.
Also, fun side note: every Exo you see is indeterminably old.

The Grimiore cards tell you everything. They were made by humans for a war yes, for the war. Then when they got shut down, and were later rebooted by some random ghost they were gifted with sentient freedom by the travelers light.
-
So if someone hacked the game we would have Ghost in the Shell
-
That's a solid theory. I like it. Humanity's last ditch attempt to artificially evolve and become stronger while retaining a little of previous self. Taking the name "Exo" as shorthand, it could stand for the exoskeleton for our consciousness. Another reason to like the Exo even more, the mystery is alluring.

They're are transformers, just a little smaller. Pretty easy to understand.

That's what I figured they were after I saw the beta. it makes sense that they were the version 1.0 of the Ghost's ability to breathe life into the dead.
-
Writing a fan fiction. Our Exo origins are exceptionally different.
-
So when you begin the beta it says you have been dead for a really long time. (No matter which race you choose) so can the ghosts revive super dead people?
-
I don't really know how to react to that, but I think that your idea is really cool. I had a few thought though. Who were the people who transferred In to the exos? Regular people or soldiers? I'm just curious. Do you have any other theories of the other races? Anyway, your idea is pretty cool.
