Destiny - Error message - Canary ...

Basically, I can play the game for 10-15 minutes, and that's if I'm lucky. I keep getting this error message as shown in the video near the end. I've tried adding different Xbox One ports. I've done a hard reset, my NAT type is OPEN. I've made all different configurations. I have 0 data loss and 100% Wireless signal strength. I just can't get to the bottom of this ... the second that message pops up, I can press A and reload the game again, it's like it disconnects for a brief second and I have no idea why. I do understand that this is the Beta but can anyone help me with this issue? It's just a pain as all 7 of my friends are play the game with no problems what so ever :'(.

  • This is an old thread, but the problem is still very real. I have been running Destiny/Destiny 2 on my PS4 for years without an issue. In fact, three PS(x) in my house with no issues. One PS4 was upstairs and I've always had to run it on WiFi. But, I recently ran Ethernet to the PS4 and started having this "Canary" error. Every time I'd get the error, I'd immediately "Test" my PS4 internet connection and despite saying I had up to 450Mb down and 20Mb up, I was still getting kicked out. I checked all my Ethernet connections and even remade a couple that I thought might be "iffy." No dice. I did everything people say to do to fix it and nothing. I finally moved my Netgear Extender into the same room as my PS4 and made it a "Network Extender" instead of a WiFi hotspot, by running the same ethernet cable that had been going to my PS4, straight into the Extender. And then, I connected my PS4 to that same Extender via 5Ghz Wifi. I haven't had the Canary error since. So, to recap: Same cables, but only now I'm running my PS4/Destiny 2 on WiFi and I'm not having any issues. I "suspect" what could be happening for people with faster connections is that the game is sending data requests to the Bungie servers faster than they can or are programmed to respond and when the client instance of Destiny doesn't get the response it expects, it logs a "disconnect." It's just a theory, but as a former network engineer, I think it's fairly sound.

  •
Ok think I've got the solution- 1. Turn router off and leave for thirty seconds 2. Turn xbox off (hold power button for 15 seconds) 3. Get your router back up and running 4. Once your router is up switch your xbox back on 5. Go to network settings on your xbox and press "clear MAC address" button 6. Press start on destiny icon and quit it 7. Load up destiny and it should work! Best of luck guys ✌️
• I fixed it. All you have to do is turn you console of completely so that when you start it up it has a green screen with the Xbox logo. You should be ok from there.

    • Hey there, so I have tried all the different ways to resolve this issue but no matter what whenever I try to get past the title screen I get the error message. I've had a friend bring over their PS4 to see if it had the same issue running on my internet but it worked perfectly without a problem. I use Comcast as my internet provider which has given me issues in the past but I have resolved those issues and every other game I try works perfectly. If anyone has any other ideas on how to fix this issue please post them, because if this isn't fixed within a week I'm just going to take the financial hit and trade the game back in.

          •
I've had the widely reported problem with the game disconnecting after 10 minutes (VIRGIN SUPERHUB 2) with the canary error. I've tried everything advised but nothings worked so far, apart from the following. I've been playing for several hours no with not one problem or diconnect. Go to your xbox 1 network settings and establish which of the two networks you're on. (either the 5ghz or the 2.4 one) The go to your PC browser and login to your router settings 192.168.0.1 (password by default is changme) Go to advanced settings then select Wireless radio you'll then see three speed options for each bandwidth, the 2.4ghz and the 5ghz. My xbox one was on the 5ghx channel with the speed set to 450mbs, I selected the 54mbs option and applied and saved. Your xbox will then disconnect and re connect to the network as your router applies the settings. Once done, happy gaming :)
When i tried this method my laptop had troubles connecting to the internet. the solution i found was to have my Xbox 1 connected to the 5GHz, then set that to 54mbs, and leave the 2.4GHz at the default my laptop connects to. this way i had the best of both worlds.

            • So is the error code canary ever gonna get fixed or do we just have a paperweight. I've tried everything and nothing has worked so far. My internet is perfect, I'm not on a college campus. Everything runs smoothly on my Xbox until I try to play destiny. Really disappointed that they aren't even coming forward about this issue.

            • Hey I am hit, too. XOne with permanent Canary errors. And it really starts to kick me off... Since Tuesday I have the same effect over and over and over again. No session longer than 10 minutes. Sometimes instant disconnects, sometimes after 10 minutes of fluent, wonderful gaming. I tried two routers by now, did everything stated in forums, on the help page, NAT, static, opening up everything, it just disconnects again and again and again, while everything else runs perfectly, no matter if Tablet, Mobile, Laptop or 360 or PS3. This by far just doesn't look like a "client" error anymore and annoys heavily. Please please please get around this somehow. If it is really the solution to hack something on the routers I am sorry for people that don't have any insights, but so far even that did not proof 100% for me, at all. Right now the situation is plain horrible, unplayable, and for such a game... sorry. I was more happy with Diablo IIIs errors, there I couldn't play AT ALL ^^' Maybe that would be better. Cheers

                • Changing your Wireless Radio settings is not a fix, you're limiting your download speed to improve stability. I hope Bungie takes a look into this issue and works with Virgin Media to resolve it, because this severely impacts enjoyment of the game.

**EDIT: Made note of Finelicker's solution** As of 0545 25 July 14 Bungie time, it seems like two versions of Canary. 1) the first version is that you cannot connect to the servers at all. This version won't let you move into character creation and you're stuck just past the start screen. A fix for many people is to do a hard reboot of the Xbox One (hold down the power button for 15 seconds, the console shuts down, wait for a minute then start back up). If it still persists, repeat and unplug your console for a min, then start back up. This should resolve Canary. 2) The second version appears to revolve around a particular modem/router. The system allows you to start a game and right before you get to a checkpoint, Canary shows up. Finelicker has a solution here:
I've had the widely reported problem with the game disconnecting after 10 minutes (VIRGIN SUPERHUB 2) with the canary error. I've tried everything advised but nothings worked so far, apart from the following. I've been playing for several hours no with not one problem or diconnect. Your xbox will then disconnect and re connect to the network as your router applies the settings. Once done, happy gaming :)
Alternatively Bambusbieger suggested the following:
As soon as the error message pops up (right after starting the game in my case), press the Xbox home button and head over to the network settings. Run the multiplayer test and wait for it to finish. Press A, return to the homescreen and close Destiny. Wait a couple of seconds, then launch it again. There error message should be gone now.
NathanLHD's thread (the one you're reading now) is the main thread for solutions so keep reading here if you have more issues. We are still investigating the issues but for now these are the fixes available. Hopefully this works. Hats off to Fine and Bam for solutions, to Nathan for keeping this thread going and for I Pye for pointing me towards Fine's solution. Get the word out so we can be Legends together. See you starside. JTS

                    • Fix confirmed :) It was an earlier reply. Goto your super hub internet page, sign in, press advanced settings, click Wireless radio, find out the which connection your Xbox One is using, goto that connection, Change it from 450 Mbps to 54 Mbps ;)! Been playing for hours now!

I'm experiencing the same issue. I've tried the hard reboot and that hasn't resolved it. I'm on a Virgin Media Superhub 2, which I gather from above is the problem. I haven't encountered an issue like this before with it.
