Too Far, Too Late

Browsing through the forums I am finding some great suggestions of how to improve the game but inevitably someone will comment "the game is too far in development, it won't get fixed" This idea bothers me seeing how far content delivery has come, especially with next-gen consoles, and what gamers have come to expect from how developers improve upon a game. To reinforce my point look at games like Call of Duty, Battlefield, and Borderlands which continually receive (or received) a multitude of DLC content, some even on day one, and actively continue support within the first year of release. This can also be seen in Destiny's very own day-one DLC "Dust Palace Strike" "Exodus Blue Multiplayer Map" and included with the Expansion Pass "The Dark Below" and "House of Wolves". Clearly the extra content proves they can actively develop or improve individual components of the game without extensive cost or a mountain of time before it gets implemented, ultimately leaving room for improvement after release. I would also like to point out I am aware that DLC is often paid for and that I am only using it as an example of a developer being able to focus on multiple aspects of a game simultaneously. There may be hope yet

  • One of the biggest problems people have is they fail to grasp that the version of the game we're playing is FAR outdated compared to the build Bungie is currently on. The beta has been finished for a long time now, but it has to go through certain time sensitive routes to get from Bungie to us over PSN/XBL. In order to push this beta to us they probably finished and polished this portion of the game several weeks to several months ago so that it could clear quality standards and PSN/XBL testing. In the meantime Bungie kept on trucking. It's like reading the authors notes on the first chapter of a novel compared to the actual finished novel.

  • At one point there was a schedule of when DLC and individual games would be released. (Saw it on DestinyUpdates ) I also believe Bungie told us that a size able amount of employees would remain behind to add more to the current game while others made the next Destiny.
