They don't play a big part in the Beta. They're mostly just there to show you their role as gear vendors, and mission dispatchers while on patrol. We don't know much beyond this. Again, we don't know for sure, but it is believed that you don't really [b]join[/b] factions. However, you can do missions for them, and represent them through gear emblazoned with their emblems.
