WHAT IS MINIMUM WAGE
-
Housing should be % of wage made. That said, the type of housing % should be dictated based off: area, type of housing (square foot, age, how maintained), populous. To rent a apartment in New York City should be let's say 20% of your wage, because because of how many people live in that area, small older apartment. While to live in Seattle is 25% based of of similar criteria.

Lower the taxes there
-
LOL, it's like 7.25 over here.

I'm in Cali and all I can say is meh. It just means that my hours will be cut now because my restaurant isn't doing so great. Thanks, Obama!

Edited by Shes Magic: 7/4/2014 6:10:05 AMBack in my day, 9$/h was PLENTY of money to live off of. If you ask me, I think people nowadays feel like they're entitled to the world. Nobody truly appreciates the value of an honest days work and the sweat on your brow.

I don't understand why people are so opposed to raising minimum wage. At a job where you get paid, for example, $25/hr, it isn't unreasonable to expect a small increase in your wages after a year or two to compensate for the rise in cost of living. Why shouldn't minimum wage workers be entitled to the same small increases to keep up with the cost of living?
-
Isn't enough?! Minimum wage shouldn't be raised at all!! It was NEVER intended to be something to live off of. Raise minimum wage=make the rest of us suffer
-
I don't even know if 11.00 is good enough in the bay area. San Francisco Oakland those city's .

Edited by Warlock: 7/4/2014 6:23:56 AMPeople who want minimum wage to rise are the same people who think it's logical to live off of it. Ignoring the obvious economical impacts of raising it, of course. Someone made a thread not too long ago outlining how raising minimum wage was bad. I wish I remembered it. EDIT: I'll add a few links underlying the economical impact. They're pretty numerous, so I'll just add a couple. http://www.forbes.com/sites/williamdunkelberg/2012/12/31/why-raising-the-minimum-wage-kills-jobs/ http://reason.com/archives/2014/03/03/9-reasons-why-raising-the-minimum-wage-i

Minimum wage will always be poverty line. doesn't matter if it's $1 or $100. Raise minimum wage and only thing that will change are prices going up, people being fired, and people being transitioned t part-time. it's an endless cycle where eventually wages will be $15 an hour but a burger at McDonalds will be $23 Want to actually fix this mess? Lower the damn inflation rate. Part of that is telling the government and Federal Reserve to stop printing off money. More money printed equates to a larger supply and the value drops. this is why a backing of gold and silver needs to be brought back. It gives a boundary that eliminates inflation and keeps prices at a steady rate. For reference, $1 today is worth LESS than a nickle back in the 1910's. Value of money ought to go up over time, not down. And here's something else for you: When gold was eliminated as backing to our currency back in the 1970s, our national debt went from like $19B to over $16 trillion today. Now you see the problem? Raising minimum wages is just throwing a blanket over the mess
inb4minimumwagejobsareonlysupposedtobeforkidslookingforextraspendingmoney
Actually in an ideal world they would be. The only reason it wouldn't be a good idea to split minimum wage into age groups (giving younger people a smaller minimum wage) is because young people need to be able to afford college. But if we're talking about an ideal world, kids wouldn't have to worry about paying for college because taxes would, so I guess it would be good to split the minimum wage into age groups.

And as for the last one, what about all that financial aid that's passed up every year?

It's fine for me I'm a teen so any extra money is good money

Ha! Wife gets paid like $63/hour. Working in a private physio clinic as an assistant I was on $25/hour and that was easy work. You guys are poor.
-
Wait, are people supposed to be able to live off of minimum wage?
-
Minimum wage should be 11.45. That should allow you to live off of about 22000 a year.
-
Edited by Madman Mordo: 7/2/2014 11:36:54 PMI'm completely for combating the ever spiraling cost of living, but artificially jacking the minimum wage up in an attempt to magically rectify everything isn't the way to do it IMO.
