Are you F**king kidding me?

Deej siad this: quote: We're listening. This has been a very frequently asked question for a while now. Before we answered it, we wanted to show you why we didn't split the screen. We wanted to show you a big, beautiful world that would blow your mind with immense scale and stunning imagery. We wanted to give you full freedom to explore that world without being tethered to another player who would have pulled you off your path and onto theirs. Destiny is all about exploration. From the very beginning, we decided to aim the full firepower of your console at one player. This game is about a personal journey, and we didn't want to make any compromises in rendering it. I know that you want what you want, but it's important to us that you at least have a chance to understand our goals for this brave new world. End quote Deej pretty much just said destiny will be more fun without split-screen then with it. Your thoughts please: mine is what the -blam!-?

  • I guess most gamers are only children now? I love playing with my younger siblings, but there's no way I could buy a second PS4 just to be able to play with them

I think this is more of an age / generation issue. Those of us who grew up with the only option of split screen gaming on really small TVs probably want it more than the younger kids who never played console games without the internet. When I was stationed in Germany and Halo came out, great times 4 player split screen on my 28" TV drinking beer and eating pizza.

    • I totally get that honestly, I played the Alpha both alone and with friends. And I can't explain how much more amazing it was to explore the world alone without someone else disturbing your experience. Especially in order to get to that one area with all the rusted cars outside the dome. Walking through the dark, sewer-like innards of the wall and listening to the sounds and soft music around me sent chills down my spine, and looking out at the world was breath-taking for me, I felt so amazed by the grandness and atmosphere. I felt like I was in a world that was totally alive yet built upon a graveyard that used to be humamity. It was a bittersweet feeling, making me feel both ready for the adventures to come but also aware of the reality of that world, the struggle for survival. And THAT is what hooked me, and I can't wait to see even more on my own, it's an experience no one should miss.

I don't understand the anger about no split screen. I've probably played split screen ten times in the history of having Xbox. And it's not like I don't have friends over to play, we just take turns or bring our own xbox's. It's not such a big deal...

          • One console couldn't be able to handle the strain of making the same huge world twice at once

Your thoughts please: mine is what the -blam!-?[/quote] That's actually not what he said at all, did you read the post, or just what you wanted to hear? He said that the reason there is no split creen is because if there was the game would not look as good as it could. He explained that for the game to run smoothly while looking great splitscreen had to be scrapped. Destiny is still a very social experience, in fact it's arguably one of the most social console games, you just need to have your own console.

If they could implement splitscreen without sacrificing other parts of the game then sure, but until then I'm incredibly happy there's no splitscreen.

              • Well in order to make it split screen they would need to render the world twice on one console, so it is really more of a technical limitation. They big a big and graphically intensive world, and to make it split screen they would have had to dumb down the visuals quite a bit for it to work smoothly.

                • There are top 3 things I cannot handle with FPS. That would be split screen. Before I tell you my reasoning I like to think back and remember the times I couldn't stop laughing when your heard brothers on split screen and the huge argument that took place because they couldn't see the game right. On that subject the rage is real. I remember one case the dude said F this, I can't play like this I want it in 15 minutes. From being a long time FPS player, split screen is the equivalent to the grim reaper of my experience. I won't do it. If I have to watch and take turns I will go that far. This doesn't apply to everyone but I would buy another console. I won't split screen. If I take a death that could have been avoided, missed a gold loot drop or a secret area cut off by the split screen than that's it.

                • He's right, though. Seriously, I don't understand everyone's problem. How often do you have people over to play? I'm sure they own the game and a console to play it on. It's not like consoles are difficult to unplug and carry around. Jesus, some #Destiny users are so entitled.

                  • I totally agree with what Deej said. Split screen sucks. It distorts the view of everything and makes it more difficult to see, not to mention in a VS. situation, the other guy is always a screen watcher.... The ONLY time it is of benefit was in Halo when you and your teammate on the split were in a Warthog. The driver could watch the gunners POV and drive to a Perfection more easily.

                    • I'm not a huge fan of split screen other than the Halo 2 days. I understand the personal journey aspect though. It would be less immersive with a split screen I think and that's not what Destiny is about.

                    • I totally agree with him. It does take away from the overall immersion of the game. I did splitscreen with friends in Borderlands and it just didn't feel all that personal to me but rather competitive. I would rather just take turns at the game.

                    • Take turns. Split screen is awful anyway you slice it. Whether it's with your wife(yeah, that guy. I mean, I play games to get away from my wife) or friends brothers etc. take turns most gameplay have people switching off. It's not a big deal. Get over it.

                    • While I do agree that it would have been nice, as my wife and I love playing games together, the reasoning behind not having it included is quite valid. I never expected split screen anyway. My wife has already agreed that we'll just end up buying a second console later on so we can play together, and we already have 2 decent TVs. Until then, we're content with switching off.
