Should I start reading A Dance with Dragons?

So Thrones is over for another year. In fact, this was my first series watching it with everyone else, seeing as last year I watched series 1, 2 and 3 after 3 had ended. Anyway, now I want moar. MOAR. So should I start on the next book in the series? Or is there now an abrupt disconnect between the events of the books (I know about
Lady Stoneheart, and the Tyrion/Jaime conversation
) and the TV series, making it tough to go from one to the other? If nothing else, I could do with some fantasy to read, given that I'm an amateur fantasy author currently worrying about my entire process. Well, the actual putting words together part, not the plotting or the high-level stuff.

  • You gotta read a Feast for Crows then A Dance for Dragons. They happen at the same time.

  • Start from book one. The books are not the same.

  • Just read all the books in order. I'm still a season behind on the show, as I didn't get to see S4 and won't until the DVD is released next year.

  • You need to start from book 1. Things are different, order of events are different sometimes... yeah. As season 4 started I started book 1 because a friend told me I should. I'm now on book 4 (A Feast For Crows) and can say he made the right call. I would have missed tons and lost so much information since the show does certain things so differently.

  • Read all the books, if you start A Dance with Dragons you'll be skipping an entire books worth of content at least.

Yes <.< I enjoyed reading the book series after the red wedding on TV <.<
I think Stoneheart will be turning up in S5 and the Tyrion/Jamie conversation is a bit... overblown... People make it more important than it really was.
• Have you read any of the previous books? I'm going to read it from the start.

    • The next series will probably be VERY different from the books, so I don't see any harm. Just dont expect any satisfying conclusions.

      • I picked up on book 3 after season 2, but there wasn't as much deviation going on between show and book back then. The two storylines are different now. There's stuff that happened in the finale that just happened at the end of book 3, then there's stuff that's happening in the 5th book. Either way, A Dance with Dragons isn't the next book in the series, technically that would be A Feast for Crows. Personally, I wouldn't start on this one... it might put you off reading the rest. Verdict: Start from the beginning, at the very least book 3.
