Edited by Galahad: 3/12/2014 12:37:43 PMI play games for their story. For me, the reward of a game is more about knowing whatever happens to the characters, what twists might lie in the plot, etc. The promise of unlocking perks, weapon modifications –while interesting– ain't enough to keep me pressing on. That said, good stories in shared-world games (whether MMO or not) are tricky. Your character can't be a superhero or "the chosen one" since they will never walk alone. The "Become Legend" mantra can be dangerous for the story if the game doesn't acknowledge that, actually, there'll be lots of legends besides you. At least I'd like to choose what my character says, or that there are differences between races/classes in how NPCs respond to you. Like, for instance, if you're a Hunter. These are the little things that make a world truly breathe.

I'd love to see a mass effect kind of story line that I interact with and have an effect on while maintaining a borderlands feel for side missions (just decide to do one or it might be in the same location as something I'm already doing.

I want it to be like bioshock where the game is linear but how you treat people or complete your objectives determines your ending.

Bungie have definitely been quoted as saying it has a linear story, but I guess they could've meant that in a broad sense, so maybe there's still some scope for branching.
-
It WILL have a linear lore because how would it be branching if you play the story with other players online.
-
Branching because it gives the game replayability .

I've given this a little thought and although I would prefer a branched story line, most likely it will be linear. The reason being is this wont be the only game using this franchise. They story will have to continue, but in order to do that everyone will have to be on the same page lore-wise.

Linear to a point, because I want to start off getting good stuff out of the campaign, and switch to branching. Only if you can replay the missions though, so I can try all the endings.
-
As long as they don't go the way of GW2: start off branching, but then the branches all combine to a single crappy ending where some douche bag takes all the credit for all of your hard work.

I would like to see Cause and Effect results in Destiny, makes me feel like I'm in the Actual game and that it matters on what I do and not do. I like those kinds of games that make you the center of what happens Kinda like Infamous

From what I've heard, the story goes one way, but there's a lot along the way that's up to you to explore. I don't think Destiny needs a branching story, because players already have so many options in terms of what and how they do in Destiny.
