I recently wrote this article and it made me realize that a WWII FPS could be extremely interesting on the new consoles. We haven't had one for a while. Do you guys think that we could see a resurgence of historical FPS games in the coming years?
Or, do you even want them to come back?

Depends. If the gameplay is gonna stay the same, I think we might as well stick to the modern aesthetic (IMO, it looks much nicer)
Anyway, it seems like future/near future is what's next for the genre
Call of duty world at war remains my favorite cod game and probably the only one I liked that was on 360 and ps3

Ehhh, if it's really good, IMO they've men milked to death over the past decade. I'd actually like to see a successful WWI game other than Toy Soldiers and 1916.

Edited by Friendlystu: 3/7/2014 1:21:57 PMwell could you name a part of the WW2 area that hasn't been used in games yet? It would seem more or less the same if one was made.

Yes, and German army perspective please.
-
Also, if it doesn't have friggin zombies. That ruins it for me.

Edited by Astrovalus: 3/7/2014 1:42:01 PMI would love to have a WWII FPS because in my opinion world war 2 was the most interesting war, and maybe for the game we could play a little bit of the campaign as an enemy soldier. Anybody with me?

I've always preferred historical settings for war games, so yes, definitely.

I wouldn't mind if DICE does a remake of 1942. By remake I'm saying they make it look like an 8th gen game. The maps would be larger and more of them, there would be more vehicles and it uses that destruction engine. But for anything else I probably wouldn't buy it. I'm getting sick of FPS games that are set in real life eras/uses real life or close to it tech. The only why I would buy a WW2 game would be if it as a sci-fi twist to it. Here's an example of what I would buy below. The events and people would be the same, but it would have a sci-fi twist to it. Each nation would be it's own planet. For example Germany and Russia would be their own planets and they invade this planet together known as Poland. For things like Normandy it would be the planets America and UK invading occupied France in order to get a foot hold in Germany's sector. The island hopping in the Pacific would be planet/moon hopping so the US gets bases closer to planet Japan. The nukes would be a ship base weapon. So it would be a ship armed with a Death Star like laser, but it takes out cities in one blast. The air battles would be both air and space battles. The sea battles would be space battles. So if there was a kick starter for a game like this would you found it or buy it if it was a normal developed game?

If a WW2 shooter came out tomorrow, and it looked good, I'd be first in line to buy it. Modern FPS games are enjoyable enough, but they don't have that same sense of a desperate fight against the N@zis or the horror of some of the battles in WW2. It's been a long time since the last good WW2 game, hopefully we see a resurgence soon.

A WWII based game? As long as its good and they do not dull the story or horrors I am in. It would be interesting if they took a leaf out of one of the best WWII show's play book, Band of Brothers and instead of focusing on the fighting, focus on the emotions and fears of the time. Show missions that involve Holocaust death camps, civilians in harms way, etc. Maybe even a side game based off the Red Tails. Soo much possibility above and beyond just a shooter.

I would love a true BF:1942 remake.
-
i'd like a WWII shooter with the same kind of gameplay as warhawk. That would be one fun game :]
-
Sorry, I can't read the article atm. I'd like to see a shooter with a conscience and WWII is a good setting for something like that. Spec Ops: The Line is often quoted as an example of that, but it really didn't seem that meaningful to me-- too much of a disconnect between the events/themes and the actual gameplay.

I WOULD LOVE TO SEE SOME MORE!!! Especially now with the updated graphics and capabilities of consoles and PC's. Except I'd like to see some not so focused on Europe. A lot of fighting went on all over the world. North Africa, Pacific, even the battle for Rome would be interesting. There's all sorts of things they could do that no other companies have done before. Why keep doing the same old incidents when you can take the other battles and use them?

I'd love to see a resurgence of WWII shooters. Modern shooters got old fast, they just don't have that interesting of an atmosphere.
-
More dude bro/military shooters? No thanks I'll gladly pass.

I personally don't want to see anymore Military FPS. I'm burnt out on them and i will be for a long time.
