Scariest movie ever made?

I've always hated scary movies....until recently. I don't know what it is, but I enjoy being scared shitless now. The scariest movie I've seen is probably The Conjuring. But I'm sure there are movies far scarier than those. What's the scariest movie you've seen? I might attempt to watch it. Edit: I just remembered, The Exorcist from 1990 was the movie that probably pushed me away from the horror genre until now. I saw parts of it as a kid and was terrified.

i watched an excorcist film when i was five (high five) i surprisingly never got nightmares but vomited in bed in side...weird i think it's excorcist (like you mentioned in your edit) or sinister (hell, even the trailer creeped me out)

Horror movies with blood and guts have never gotten the "scared" reaction from me, and that's because I find them hilarious to watch. The hacking/slasher movies are basically comedies to me. The kind of movies that do tend to affect me are psychological thrillers - the ones that get inside your head and have you on the edge of your seat with your palms sweating. That being said, Se7en is without a doubt the most scariest movie I've ever seen and one of my all time favourites. But again, the reasons for it being "scary" aren't because of the gore in the movie
(from what I can remember, none of the murders committed you see on-screen (except for the last)
, but I think that really adds to the psychological aspect of it. For example, when they find the woman (prostitute(?)) who
was killed by the man forced to wear the strap-on sex toy with the blade attached to the end
and you see a picture of the... "instrument", you get to start imagining what that might have been like. But my god, when the man
starts explaining to the cops how he was forced to "-blam!- her" or be killed
, and the way he was describing it... that was chilling. Although when
Kevin Spacey
turns up and starts acting out his character, the way he does it is again, nothing short of chilling. The way he's so adamant about what's going to happen next when he's
talking to the cops in the car
and his demeanour... I really want to watch it again now, but I wish I could watch it again as if it's the first time I'm seeing it. It is an absolutely brilliant movie and I implore anyone here who hasn't seen it to do so as soon as possible. One other "scary" movie is Funny Games, which is, for lack of a better term extremely disturbing (and more so than any other movie I've ever watched). But again, not gory or bloody, but psychologically disturbing in the sense that it is easy to imagine yourself in the positions of the lead characters of the movie. Couple that with the "acts" carried out against the characters and absolute lack of all sense of sympathy and humanity portrayed... I refuse to watch this movie ever again.

                • Traditional movies with a monster all in your face usually dont scare me. Its those movies like "The Shining" that really get to me because of their ambiguity.

                • Honestly, the first Alien movie is what has made me afraid of the dark. I love the Alien series, and still watch it every now and again. Especially since there's an upcoming game, oh man I am so hyped. Here's a nice bit of trivia about the first movie: Alien in some other countries is retitled as The Eighth Passenger. That's pretty scary by itself.

I'll never understand how people can watch scary movies. Not that I scare easily, but just the idea of walking into a movie with the INTENT to BE SCARED... That seems really, really stupid to me. I tend to avoid negative emotions at all cost, if I have the chance.
