The Halo Wars community is pretty bad

There is no sportmanship. I mean, honestly, most of the time, if someone feels like they're gonna lose, they quit. It's very rare to see someone fight to the end, which my friends and I always do. If you attack someone with a superior force, most of the time they'll just leave. Maybe 10 seconds into a confrontation, they just leave because they see they're gonna lose. The same applies if you're losing in a game with randoms. Teammates will often just quit, and it's me versus three other guys, or me and a chill teammate sticking it out. Even when you're playing with friends, if the enemy sees that you aren't resigning they will try to farm you for points. If that happens I send a msg saying that they either finish the job or I leave, and being the greedy guys that they are, I have not yet had to leave as they soon come swarming for the kill. Just won 3 games in a row, and in 2 of those we won because the enemy quit. The only reason the last ones idn't leave was because they were new to the game. I was going to post this on the waypoint halo wars forum but I'm banned for like 5000 years lol.

    • I do this. So do my friends. If we know we are against a player that has us beat, and is stretching the game out to over a half hour on purpose, I leave. If you have me beat, finish the job! There is no point in staying in a loosing game for over 40 min just to stroke someones ego....I have better things to do with my time. I am all for an hour long slugfest, and loosing, but you can tell when someone is stretching the game out on purpose. I would rather find someone who is actually willing play.

I only leave if I get rushed. It takes the fun out of the game. I'll fight back, if possible, but I'm not going to sit around and watch my base die for five minutes because they cranked out a couple of warthogs. This thread reminds me of a 2v2 that I played once that lasted about two hours. Something tells me that they might have been farming us but I don't think they were. They had two more bases than us for most of the match, but I was able to combine Vulture attacks with a quadruple MAC to instantly destroy their bases and fight back.

            • This is a problem on a lot of multiplayer games, not just Halo Wars. I agree it's not good sportsmanship though, if you go online you can't assume you will win, if your losing stick it out you may pull it back. I have been guilty of rage quitting in the past which I am ashamed of, tbh it was more about laggy connections due to the selected host rather than been beaten fairly. More games need to have penalties for quitting on multiple occasions or at least repopulate the game with another player if one leaves so people can enjoy their gaming experience.

While there is no excuse for it, it doesn't help that the MP has a horrible XP system and a nonexistent punishment system for leaving. I loved single player but MP was absolutely horrible. Kind of hard for me to get to General rank when people don't stay in long enough for me to get any points.

                    • People got to learn how to just enjoy the game, and not just caring about wins and losses. Had an awesome 3v3 a few days ago where we knew we were losing 15 minutes in, but that didn't stop us from putting sticks in the enemies' wheels. The fun in that game was seeing how long we could hold out and how much we could destroy of their forces. Was really great to launch counterattacks and kill a couple bases before their OP spartanks and spartan cobras and whatever came to crush us lol

                    • No one likes to lose and winners don't know how to be gracious. Enjoy staring at a single player screen by yourself thanks in part to immaturity.

                    • I used to play all the time but I did notice more quitting. I never understood why people left because they had recruits on their team, everybody needs to start somewhere and so what they are not very good, under good leadership and player skill they learn how to play, get points and you can show off a bit. Many times I have been forced to turtle in 1v1 games and time my counter attack which enables me to steam roll the enemy and taking 2-3 bases in quick succession and win. Hell if I go 1v1 against a recruit I just use cyclops, I feel bad when I do that and they struggle to counter them.

                        • I can't believe there are people that still expect others to stay until the end of the game in pretty much any game out there nowadays. People quit all the time in just about any game I can think of. Also the only reason I can think you want them to stay would be to get more points off of them. In a game like Halo Wars it is extremely obvious when there is no possible way to win. At that point I think most people would not want to waste other people's time and as a result would just surrender or leave.

I play 3v3 and most of the time my teammates quit at the beginning just because they don't like the map which makes it a 3v1 for me.
if someone feels like they're gonna lose, they quit.
It's not exactly like there are many ways to throw the game back comfortably into their favor. Unless it's 3 v 3, I'd fully expect quits. It's just something that will happen in games like this.

                          • There are indeed a lot of quitters. But I know a lot of it is connection based. I played a lot of matches with my friends where me or another person just got dumped back in the lobby from the game with no warning as our connections had a hissy fit. But hey, when you look at other games nowadays, is it really a surprise that there's quitters on Halo Wars as well? I mean, the slightest hint of opposition in Halo 4 and people dropped out like flies. Match going bad in Reach? To hell with quit bans! Problems in Dark Souls with an invader? Dashboard! Personally what I like to do when it happens to me or somebody on the other team, is just make a massive army of shit units you wouldn't normally use for offense. Watching a base slowly crumble as 40 flamethrowers slowly burn it to bits is kind of hilarious. And, at the very least, it gives them a chance to fight back against one person in the opposing group.

                            • The only bad things are early quitters and rushers. Almost EVERY General will quit if there is a rank lower than brigadier on his team. That sucks. That's why I always play 2v2 party teams w/ Camnator or other friends

                              • I only resign if someone uses a cheap tactic to rush me at the very start, or if someone is clearly leaving me to rebuild so they can farm me for points. It's annoying when people quit because they see higher ranks on the other team, and that happens a lot.

                              • What can you do? It's not the game's fault. And Halo Wars is one of few games I've played online where players have sent "good game" messages after enjoyable matches, numerous times. You can't speak for every member of the HW community.
