I Feel Like ODST and Reach Were Just Experiments for Destiny

Think about it: ODST: Testing how well free-roam/sandbox environments work Reach: Customized armor appearing in cutscenes, extensive character customization, abilities(AAs), Racial differences(Elites vs Spartans), space combat, and more. Thoughts?

They were, which is what I hate most about Reach (and to some extent, ODST). Reach wasn't their swan song, it was their prototype for Destiny. Instead of giving us the best HALO experience, they gave us something that should of stayed as a proof of concept.

  • It's hilarious how people act like reach was shit because it was Bungie "testing the waters"

  • They were good experiments.

I agree with that. At that point Halo was pretty much finished to them. The slogan for Halo 3 was "Finish the fight." The only thing they had left was 2 more Halo games to get out of that deal. ODST wasn't a full game compared to the 3 main games and Reach. So that was more of something to keep you entertained. Reach added in armor abilities which is a big change to Halo. I don't see them adding in something like that to their final Halo game unless they did it to test it out for Destiny. Why go through the trouble of doing something like that for a game when you have nothing to do with the series anymore? Hell the ability pickups in Halo 3 might be concepts Bungie was thinking about for Destiny. After all ODST does have Destiny Easter eggs like that :"Destiny awaits" poster.

    • Sounds logical. You can find Destiny Easter eggs in ODST after all.

    • And don't forget the space combat that was in Reach.

I doubt ODST and Reach were primarily experiments for Destiny; I think it would be fair to say Bungie have always been interested in creating new experiences and expanding the worlds they create. But this is true of most developers. Thinking of BioWare - you can clearly see the influence of previous games like KOTOR and Jade Empire in Mass Effect, or Baldur's Gate in Dragon Age. I'm looking forward to seeing how Bungie will evolve the elements you've mentioned, and how they'll be used in Destiny.

    • Think about it ODST: Made just to keep us all busy until Reach came out. Was basically just a Halo OST. Reach: Well... I dunno
