Destiny does not deserve the praise it's getting
We know hardly anything about this game and yet everyone treats it like it's gonna revolutionise the FPS genre. Sure, It has a handful of innovative Ideas but we have no idea whether they will work come release.
Well, that and I'm a bit skeptical after Halo 3 and Reach

The OPs got a point. We've seen a lot of concept art and a bit of gameplay, but nothing to really give us a true idea of how cohesive Destiny will be. SWTOR kinda had the same thing going for it. It looked really good before release, but it was not the game changing MMORPG it was billed to be by a long shot.

I can understand being skeptical about Reach, but Halo 3? C'mon man that game was golden.

have to agree. I've seen nothing yet thats pulled me in and go "wow this is making fps games revolutionized" yet. And no I'm not one of those CoD trolls. I hate cod. I am hoping destiny paves the way for a new fps but not seen anything to pull me in yet.

2 RepliesI agree completely that we have hardly any information to justify the hype for Destiny from an objective standpoint. However, and this is only my opinion, I am hyped for Destiny simply because of Bungie. While Halo 3 and Reach has shaken your opinion of them, they really didn't do much for mine either way. They certainly aren't the best Halo games, but I still found them to be very enjoyable, personally. So, I still have strong confidence in Bungie and expect this game to be great. Of course, they could always disappoint me like Bioware, but I'm hoping to God that won't happen. Basically, don't worry if you aren't as hyped. I can totally see where you're coming from and hopefully we'll get more information during Gamescom.

Agreed 100% We don't know all that much about the game and yet people are talking as if this is gonna be the next Halo: CE or Bioshock or something.

The people over-hyping it are the same ones who will say it sucks when they finally get it. I'm interested in Destiny, but I know better than to have too many expectations of it, especially when barely anything about it has been elaborated upon.

4 RepliesI definitely see what you're saying. People blow things ridiculously out of proportion, making it seem as though this game has already been successful. But thus far most people have agreed with you, so I'll play devil's advocate. The ability to slip in and out of multiplayer co op, a public event, and a multiplayer vs (maybe slipping in and out of it), all on a next gen system sound pretty awesome. The individual loot system sounds nice too, and all of this will be in a huge, beautiful shared world. Personally, exploring is what has gotten me the most excited. The main thing that has me excited, and not just for this game, is the size and scope Bungie is shooting for. A ten year publishing deal, four games and each with a major dlc. A story arc that is supposed to carry through the 4 games. Bungie trying to build a universe that rivals Star Wars, and a game that becomes bigger than halo. The coolest thing, and the main cause of my excitement has been listening to some of the things Jason Jones has said. I don't personally know the guy, but I believe in the guy's ability to create wildly entertaining games. Jason Jones is to Bungie and gaming what Steve Jobs was to Apple and smart phones/tablets, or what Elon Musk is (or will be) to electric cars, solar power, and space exploration (check out Musk's car company Tesla, solar power company Solar City, and his rocket company Space Exploration Technology). He's trying to make Destiny into all the things he wanted Halo to be. The technology wasn't there then, and now it is. I liken Destiny to being a Halo series 2.0, with the Internet being utilized to its fullest The Internet didn't effect gaming on a console much when halo came out. In all honesty, a lot of games aren't effected still by having Internet because their single player and multiplayer are separate. I see Bungie using Destiny as the first game to genuinely entwine single and multiplayer in a seamless manner, without seeming gimmicky or forced. At least, that's my two cents. Regardless of what the reviews will be, I'm still picking up destiny and will be getting the next gen system because of it

But seriously, I see where your coming from, we really do know next to nothing, and the fans are hyped, I think its the way they advertised Destiny and everyones history and the success of the Halo franchise. I really am a Fanboy for Bungie, but you make a good point. I think Destiny does deserve the praise, but it still has some milestones to meet to be earned. I think the concept of Destiny is revolutionary to the FPS genre, and Im hoping Destiny can pull through. *Starts picking up pieces of the wall.* [spoiler]Sorry about that X|[/spoiler]

It isn't part of the FPS genre, or the MMO genre, first of all. And the innovations it brings are pretty big ones. I think the game definitely deserves the praise and hype it's been getting. After all, this is something that the entire Bungie company was working on for 10 years.

Ok, now that my Bungie fanboy rage is over, I can see where you are coming from. But Destiny isn't getting all this praise simply because it looks cool, it gets if because we put our faith in Bungie, and we know they won't disappoint (hopefully)

Fan is short for fanatic so yea Bungie fans are gonna go nuts over a project they know Bungie has had in the works for a decade, that being said we really haven't heard much and there is still a ton of things to be learned about the Destiny universe. Gotta give props to Bungie tho this is the most active and excited community I have ever seen for a game and the game is still almost a year out! Excitement is contagious, and you've gotta admit if Bungie lives up to its former self and pulls off what it sounds like they are trying to pull off, this game is going to deserve every bit of hype and fanboyism it gets and will prob kick start a whole new genre.
