What we see here in that middle paragraph is what I'm trying to point out...imagine a monster that only appears every so often that only a rumor that it even exists is all you have to go off of. I started geeking out over it...thoughts?

It'll probably appear on the 7th day of the week every 7 weeks with a super rare public event on the 7th month of the 7th week on the 7th day. I had fun typing that.
-
Sounds awesome. :-)
-
Once a month? Oh my jesus. I have visions of whole platoons of people just waiting around the spawn point of a super rare enemy drop.. Sounds good to me. Be good for a laugh.
-
It's Ling-Ling's head.
-
Not another pair of pants. :(
-
This statement makes me miss the days before the Internet, everything was always so new and mysterious then. The internets like a long stupid trailer that ruins the movies entire plot and shows you all the good scenes in advance.
-
Bungie can have my money at any time.
-
If it is monthly, it makes you wonder what type of monsters they will be (I'm getting visions of shadow of the colossus type encounters).
-
If I find out that it is a Graboid, Shreaker, or Ass Blaster in will shit my pants with a smile.
-
It'd be sweet if it only went around by word of mouth and stuff in game, but we all know it will end up on youtube and then when you don't believe your buddy, and he shows it to you, it kind of takes away from the mystique of it. But I still love it. I've always thought the wildlife and stuff in a game makes it so much more believable.

You know what they need a class for? Workin people. I just want to be a Waiter at the best restaurant in the galaxy.

Errrr meeeerrrrrr fffffeeeeeerrrrrkkkkkiiiinnnnnn ggggggeeeeeeerrrrrrddddddddd

Something that I really love developers to aspire towards is for them to create worlds full of lore and interesting things, but then leave just enough for us to imagine. When a game can involve your imagination it then becomes something even more fun. The concept of a beast that you only see some times is really exciting and in my opinion allow Bungie to do just that, captivate our hearts and minds.
-
Encountering this monster is only luck. You have to be on the planet in that public area. OMG rare weapons!! Legendary weapons!! 1 of a kind weapons?!!!
-
It'll be just like that monster in Star Wars: Galaxies that drops the holocron that's required to become a Jedi. People would swarm around and wait for it to spawn in, then insta-kill it. In all seriousness, this sounds incredible. Bungie is really getting deep with these social areas, and I'm liking what I'm hearing about it.

O____________O

Ide like a developer to do something like that, but something more obscure. like take examples from the myths of other games (i.e. herobrine from minecraft or the "ghosts" of halo) and let the developer implement something like that on purpose. they would have to make it so obscure and rare that players won't really understand what it is, and make the interaction with it so fast that player won't have time to try to understand it. anyways, what bungie is doing pretty epic, but Ide like for there to be some spooky stuff in games like destiny.
-
These random encounters with legendary beasts is what has me really excited for this game. Definitely need to get into a good group of people that are also interested in going out to look for these rare mega bosses.
-
That is soo cool I would love for that to happen

It is things like this that make me shiver when I read about them. I've had dreams in the past about games being able to do this, a fleeting glimpse at what Bungie had in store. I imagine a fireteam of 5 wandering the dunes of Mars when a writhing creature of massive proportions rises from the sand. They don't know what to think, they haven't seen anything like this before, and they've been playing Destiny for months now. Maybe they defeat the creature, and maybe they don't; but nonetheless, they will tell travelers of their ill-fated journey, but no one believes them. The story gets perpetuated down until it becomes nothing but a legend, a myth of the sand dunes of Mars. Until one day it is encountered again, and maybe this time people start believing. If things like this can happen in Destiny, I have no idea how I will be able to pull myself away from this game. Destiny awaits, but it is up to us to uncover the inevitable secrets that come with it.
-
It's a great idea. Going on quest that you're already excited about then in the middle of the quest some mysterious creature pops up that you've only heard stories about. This alone could keep many player very interested in the game for a long time as well as adding to the lore. This is becoming one of the things I'm looking forward to the most.

I think that this would be an awesome way to introduce new enemy races too. Think about it, you hear rumors of fireteams running into an unknown race on Europa and the further stretches of our solar system. Tales of these encounters start to spread throughout the Guardians and more and more fireteams have run-ins with these entities. Eventually an new threat....(whatever are in the onyx pyramids, perhaps) start showing up en masse and a new race of enemies become a staple of the Destiny universe.
-
Monsters? I wish they would define monsters.
-
Thats pretty bad ass.
-
No thoughts?

Well it would appear we are in need of a monthly monster slaying group then. Would anyone be interested in joining one?
