How to merge two laptop screens into one?

So I have two laptops. I want to stretch one of my laptop screens onto the other, so basically, suppose I have google chrome launched on my laptop, I can drag the google chrome window onto the other laptop screen. Is there any way to do this? The problem is, one of my laptops has an hdmi port while the other one doesn't so an hdmi cable wont work I think. Also, I know we can go to control panel, personalization, connect to an external display, hit identify and then extend these displays but I cant use an hdmi cable to connect the two laptops in the first place so I cant really hit identify and find the second laptop. Is there any other type of cable I can use?

Since each is it's own device, there really isn't a way to get a program running on one device to seamlessly move to the display of another. But, you can use a single mouse and keyboard to control both devices. http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=35460 Mouse Without Borders. There's also another freeware product that is similar, called [google]Synergy[/google] and a commercial product called [google]Multiplicity[/google]. I use the latter to have one mouse and keyboard for all of my PC's on my desk.
