The Glimmer: What we know so far (and more lol)

I have some very preliminary speculation on the glimmer... Glimmer noun 1. a faint or unsteady light; gleam. 2. a dim perception; inkling. verb (used without object) 3. to shine faintly or unsteadily; twinkle, shimmer, or flicker. 4. to appear faintly or dimly. Origin: 1300–50; Middle English glimeren to gleam; cognate with German glimmern; compare Old English gleomu splendor The Glimmer. A rather anticlimactic name, but very mysterious sounding, and it has 7 LETTERS. The Glimmer are rare/secretive. (judging by the name and definition) Bungie has described them as “Onyx ships” at GDC, whether the ships are supposed to be hewn from the material is unknown, they probably meant the color onyx. An interesting thing is that, with some tweaking, you can fit together pyramids to form a rough sphere, so I wouldn’t be surprised if the Glimmer ships can form larger constructs. They seem to be the terror that the Traveler sacrificed itself to save us from. They probably will be what keeps you playing Destiny for the plot, even though we were familiar with the Covenant by Halo 3 we still had the mystery of the Forerunners to spark our curiosity. I wouldn’t be surprised if they withhold major info/lore until later games. Thoughts? (Side note, can anyone think of references to the number 7 here? [already noted the name has 7 letters])

 • This is my speculation from a previous thread about the Glimmer:
Perhaps the fifth race (the Glimmer) isn't being revealed because they are the most important. I think there are a few possible scenarios. Either: A) the Glimmer brought the other races into the Sol system, whether indirectly or as a part of an allegiance (like the Covenant). B) the Glimmer appear in later into the story, and either serve as a common enemy (like the Lambent, Locust, Human conflict in Gears of War), or force the different aliens to work together, with or without the humans, to fight them. C) the other races are entering the Sol System to get away from the Glimmer (similar to how humanity was pushed into other systems to get away from the Flood) D) the Glimmer were the mysterious cataclysmic event that nearly wiped humanity out. When the traveler sacrificed itself, they were knocked out, but they are starting to return, and are more powerful than all the other alien races. Perhaps the Glimmer are more powerful than the other races because they can disguise themselves, and take the shape of other lifeforms... It would certainly explain this image, and also explain their name. They may be called the Glimmer because that's the only way to tell them apart from those they are copying, their method of disguise isn't perfect, and the impostors will "glimmer" a bit to give themselves away to the wary-eyed. We really won't know for sure what they are or why they haven't been revealed until they are revealed, but those are my best guesses.
Also, what Staten said about a soul being ripped from a body could be the Glimmer, they could take over the body of another alien, which would explain this image as well. The fallen and cabal seem to be leaking out a black smoke and they have a shimmering green color to them. The smoke and color could be indicative that they are currently being controlled by the Glimmer, or are the Glimmer, or something like that.
