Single Player / Offline Play Petition
Well, not petition per say because I'm not about to go to one of those sites where you can make a petition and make one, and just putting your username as your comment isn't very constructive, but let this stand as a place for all the offliners and campaign-only-gamers to express their discontent at the lack of offline play as well as request the addition of offline play in Destiny.
Even if it was contained just to one planet (namely, Earth) because Bungie's only 10 months out of release -- maybe more, but probably not much -- I would still be happy with that much of offline play. I don't want to not be able to play the game if my internet is on the blink. I don't want to always play with other people, I like me some solitary play. And while I understand that the expansion of the game in a social direction is necessary to keep the game as vastly innovative as our gracious hosts would like, I think that 10 months is plenty of time to work out a single-player-campaign-like-thing, even if it comes in the form of a Day 1 TU or, heaven forbid, Day 1 Paid DLC (as long as it's not more than like 5 bucks).
So please, voice your complaints, present your opinions, argue your points, beg for your wants, express your needs, and, in the words of the great Scuba Ken:

1 Replyid like to have a single-player story mode but make it online(if offline is totally out of the question) but a closed session similar to GTA 5's solo session or invite only so you can enjoy the world to your self for awhile.

I'm for this, but, if not this destiny maybe in its sequels Why? Because, an nline game only is not thinking to the futute, some day or children, and or children's children will not be able to play Destiny, for all servers will go down eventualy. ungie should plan to leave there Legacy!

Yeah, maybe if you can play certain areas ONLY!! Offline. Like just the City and some surrounding areas. That would be cool.

I think I'd like offline play, but all the online shit like Public Events will have to be randomized, and AI will be neccesary for your fireteam.

The game is being built as an online game. You have the option of playing by yourself. It's like asking to play WOW offline. Doesn't make any sense. Get used to it because it's the future of gaming, whether you like it or not.

I'm with you on a single player aspect of Destiny. Especially when it comes to scheduled maintenance. If I know anything about online games, is that when it comes to updates, servers go down for hours and players have to wait.

2 RepliesAlright, I just checked the whole thread. Not one sourced fact. Can someone provide a source to this ONLY online claim? I'm certain it isn't true. If I am remembering this right then Bungie does have modes you can play offline, it just won't be the "intended experience" and they don't recommend it.

I don't have any issues with the online requirement, as a predominantly single player offline gamer I find what they're doing pretty cool. Capture the flag and team death match get boring real quick. This looks to have some lasting appeal to be online. I do hope they have a good solution for the times your Internet drops. Ending up back at the city or dead in the field because you had to cycle your router would suck. Especially if you're in a fire team.

7 RepliesIt's always amazing to me how demanding people can be without having really done any research on the subject other than "I think they said it'd have to be online somewhere." Yeah. They said that. Know why? Because online play is a [i]core game mechanic[/i]. As in it's essential to how the game is designed and built from the ground up. Do you have any idea the kind of extra effort that Bungie would need to go through to give everyone an online option just because a few people want it? By that point, they'd practically be making a new game. [i]That's[/i] how much time and effort it would require. There's not just some single line of code they could add that would magically (or space magically, if your prefer) let you play offline. It would essentially be like saying, "Hey I know you just built this skyscraper and I know its foundation is made out of this certain material, but I'm allergic to that so I can't be in your skyscraper. Can you make the foundation out of this other material now so that I and some other people like me can go in the skyscraper? If you do, we'll probably throw a few bucks your way."

how about this instead... a few single-player spin-off games with side-stories set in the same universe not based around the main games story. Seems like something that would happen given enough time.

express your -blam!-ing discontent all you frigging like , still wont change a product that's months and years in development , but by all means try to get bungie to change and therefore delay something that they have been working hard on just cause you feel like bitchin about how crappy your connection is , I look forward to them seeing this and then saying this ^ to themselves...
