The fact is, Mrs. Clinton, is that it [i]does[/i] matter. Understanding the reasons as to why the terrorists did what they did is a crucial part of finding, understanding, and eliminating the threat itself. This is why we delve into the societal, economic, and political conditions, for example, of Afghanistan to better understand the groups operating against us there instead of just blowing up terrorist enclaves. This is pure incompetence in the part of Clinton, and I can only hope her replacement is much more effective than she is.

It makes a difference, Madam Secretary, because the state department lied about it for three weeks in what could persuasively be argued as an attempt to downplay the blunder and prevent this situation from destroying the president's chances of reelection. Frankly, he should have lost the election because of what occurred, and they knew that, and tried desperately to cover the truth so that when the deception was revealed, it would have been old news and out of the minds of the citizens.

The Republican outrage on this issue is purely politically motivated, and nothing more. It does not matter why they attacked the embassy, because it's over. Done with. President Obama has had two embassy attacks in his one term as President. While Bush was President, there was near ten.

2 RepliesSecretary Clinton clearly said this out of a moment of intense frustration. These Benghazi hearings demonstrate the unbelievable hypocrisy of the Republicans. They condemn President Obama for being absent for 7 hours on 9/11/2012 whereas President Bush was reading a children's book to first graders when 9/11 happened. He failed to heed any warnings in August of 2001, too busy on his ranch. The Republicans are feigning outrage for political points, plain and simple. They see Clinton as a major threat in 2016, and so they must demagogue the immensely popular Secretary of State in preparation for 2016.
