Bungie.net Feedback
^^^ CLICK LINK ABOVE FOR PART 2 OF FEEDBACK. ^^^
While creating a quick Bungie.net guide, I tested some features (muting, hiding, messaging, groups, ect.) and learned a lot about how the new website works. After using Bungie.net for almost a week, I've gathered my thoughts and provided my feedback below. Feel free to agree or disagree with my suggestions as well as share any other input you may have. Side Note: I want to say thank you to the Bungie web team and Bungie.net moderators for all of their hard work. The web team has already deployed their first hotfix addressing important issues and will continue to improve our experience on this site. PS: I miss Bungie mobile. :-/ GENERAL & NAVIGATION:
* The browser tab titles should be changed to better describe the page you are viewing, especially in the forum. I would also like the Bungie.net homepage quotes/sayings from the old site to return. * There should be a link to a site map in the Footer. The site map should include all main pages and sub pages, not just what's in the drop down at the top. * Groups in the navigation drop-down should be sorted by group name (ascending) instead of the order you followed groups. Also, the groups you're a member of should be listed before the groups you're not a member of. * When selecting a reply link in the notifications, I would like the topic to appear with all replies by default.
SEARCHING:
* User search doesn't need to change at the moment. I assume you will be able to search for a user by their linked Xbox LIVE gamertag or PlayStation Network account after Bungie's next game is released. * The topics search on the Search page is pointless; it only searches for tags and provides 26 results. The topics search should work something like this. Please know that although this would be ideal, I don't know what potential this site has and how difficult/possible this would be able to implement (scale). A post search would also be nice in addition to a topic search (sort options would allow both ascending and descending).
Field 1: Subject contains these terms. Field 1 Type: AND, OR Field 2: Body contains these terms. Field 2 Type: AND, OR Sort By: Creation Date, Last Reply, Most Replies, Most Likes, Popular, Debated Filter 1: Tags contain these terms. Filter 1 Type: AND, OR Filter 2: Attachments Filter 2 Type: -, NONE, ALL, LINKS ONLY, IMAGES ONLY, YOUTUBE VIDEOS ONLY Filter 3: Original Poster: Only topics created by these users will be listed. Filter 4: User Comments: Only topics with comments/replies by these users will be listed. Filter 4 Type: AND, OR Filter 5: Created Filter 5 Type: Today, Week, Month, Year, All Time, From Date - Date Filter 6: Topic Type Filter 6 Type: -, FOLLOWED, INSPIRED, OFFICIAL, MODERATOR Filter 7: Privacy Filter 7 Type: -, PUBLIC, GROUP PUBLIC, GROUP PRIVATE
* The groups search on the Search page is different than the groups search on the Explore Groups page. The search from the Explore Groups page is better and should be implemented on the Search page as well. If there's a result for the exact term(s) searched, it should appear first regardless of what sort order or filter you have selected. Currently, groups search lists all groups that match the criteria by group name (ascending). The groups search should work like the following (sort options would allow both ascending and descending).
Field 1: Group Name contains these terms. Field 1 Type: AND, OR Field 2: Group Description contains these terms. Field 2 Type: AND, OR Field 3: Group Tags contain these terms. Field 3 Type: AND, OR Field 4: Founder name contains these terms. Field 4 Type: AND, OR Sort By: Group Name, Founder Name, Creation Date, # of Members, # of Followers Filter 1: Group Membership Filter 1 Type: -, Open, Requires Approval, Closed

PROFILE & SETTINGS:
* Please increase the number of users you can follow. I easily followed 100 users and would like to follow a lot more users. * I've seen quite a bit of impersonation on the website. The Display Name and Unique ID, Bungie (and maybe even some Bungie employee Unique IDs), should not be allowed for use. Users should be given the option to view Unique ID in the forums (as primary) and Display Name in the more information box. The Unique ID of a user should only be allowed to change once a year. * In addition to being able to register/sign in with four services (Microsoft Account, PlayStation Account, Google, and Facebook), Bungie should begin accepting OpenID on the website. Twitter integration (displaying Twitter icon with link to profile, embedded timelines, ect.) is also food for thought. * Profiles should display the date the user last signed in or have an online status. There should be a setting to hide this. * The icons on profile pages (Xbox, PSN, Facebook, ect.) should link to the appropriate off-site profile. It would be nice to have one custom icon/link, as we did on the old site. * Profiles should have three additional tabs for Post History, Like History, and Dislike History. All activity should be shown on these pages, 25 links per page. Being able to remove liked topics and dislike topics would be nice. I don't like the fact that once you like a topic, you can't unlike it, you have to dislike it (same applies vice versa). * Mottos should have more room. Text markup and links should be allowed. * In regards to security, having a secondary authorization (Bungie.net password) would be nice. This would be used for signing in (if enabled), linking/unlinking an account, changing the Unique ID, and other settings (if enabled). You would be able to reset this password via email or security questions (if added). * There should be a Notifications page that provides all notifications with more details and options. Some examples would be acepting/rejecting a user from a group, messaging a user, replying to a reply, following back, and seeing all users that liked your topic. * There should be settings to show/hide images and videos by default, enable/disable the warning message for off-site links, and show/hide community reported topics and posts by default (does not affect topics/posts by muted users and topics/posts manually hidden). * Custom avatars and/or themes for users that have been a member on the site for X number of years would be appreciated. * In the groups section, Deleted Groups are not listed. When a group is deleted, it cannot be recovered. I'm not sure why this section exists. * Multiple Bungie.net color schemes or even the possibility of creating your own custom color schemes would be great. Some users prefer a dark background with light text, some users prefer a light background with dark text, and some users are just special. If groups are given the ability to have a custom theme, there should be a setting for your Bungie.net color scheme to override all group schemes.
PRIVATE MESSAGING:
* There should be a Message Center page to easily go through and manage conversations. Searching users, searching text, and leaving multiple conversations at once would be features you could do here, but not from the navigation bar. * Messaging a muted user should not be allowed; an error message should notify you that you have muted the user. * The ability to add users to an existing conversation would be nice, but not necessary. * Let's say a group conversation is started. If a user leaves and starts a new conversation with the exact same group of users, the user should re-join the conversation. Currently (in this situation), the users that never left the first conversation would have two separate chat windows with the same group of users. This is unnecessary unless you are interested in having a conversation leader with the ability to kick users from a conversation. * IM Chat and Online Status is not needed and may not be something you're interested in, but it's definitely something to consider down the road. The Auto Responder (manual/auto) was kind of a neat future; I'm wondering if that's something Bungie will implement again.
NEWS:
* A new tab should be added called Archive. This would display all news stories from the old Bungie.net site. This is only a request if you plan on eventually taking down halo.bungie.net. * It would be nice if there was a "Start Related topic" button on news stories. Started a new topic: Bungie Mobile 2.0(7 Replies))

  • The MUTE feature is cool, except I can't see any of the posts in the lineage past the muted posts either. I just want to MUTE specific individual posts, not entire tree branches of posts..

    • FYI: Google auth is OpenId. But we're never going to open up general OpenID, it would always be to specific providers that we trust.

      • An excellent post, to say the least. The only thing I would add would be to go back to the old thread status indicators (The webmaster and plus, the webmaster and flames (maybe different levels of flames), the septagon, etc.) as it added more character to the site and made it stand out more; made it less linear compared to other forums. I didn't notice that they hadn't ACTUALLY fixed the search function. C'mon, guys. Is it really that difficult to make a functioning search function that works like all the others?
^^^ CLICK LINK ABOVE FOR PART 1 OF FEEDBACK. ^^^
FORUM:
* In addition to followed tags, I think users should be able to save topics searches to their side bar and rename them. Please see the Searching section above for more information. * The spoiler tag should appear as one line. When you click on the spoiler, it should expand to the appropriate length to view the text. This would be very useful for creating FAQs and guides. * Avatars should be scaled bigger than 35x35, but smaller than 90x90. * The sorting of posts while viewing a thread is acceptable to me, but not to some. I assume the reason posts are sorted by replies (descending) is because you don't want content to be missed. It would be nice to have multiple sorting options, such as comments (ascending/descending) and replies (ascending/descending). The ability to disable conversation threading is also something I'd like. The forums have been a certain way for so long; some users say change is good and others say if it ain't broke, don't fix it. * Previewing a post would be appreciated. * When creating a topic, users should have to select at least one official tag. This will allow users to have the sub-forums they are requesting. * The more information box should include the icons (Xbox, PSN, Facebook, ect.) that are also included on profile pages. An icon for a custom icon that links to a homepage URL would be great. There should also be more room for the motto. Online status or the date the user was last online would be good to know. You should be able to unfollow and unmute a user from the more information box. The more information box should include recognition icons similar to the ones listed on this page. Also, I would prefer if the more information box appeared if I just hovered my mouse over the name/avatar instead of having to click. * When a post is edited, the time stamp is replaced. The original time stamp should be listed right underneath the edited time stamp. * You should be able to unlike or undislike a topic. * After manually hiding a topic and then temporarily revealing it, the button to un-hide the topic permanently should not say "hide post." * Hovering over a topic icon should have a brief description of what it means. Another alternative would be to make the icons link to a page that describes what all of the icons mean. * More reasons should be stated for hiding a topic/hiding a post/muting a user. I would suggest adding Off-Topic/Misuse of Tags, Spam, and Impersonation.
GROUPS:
* Group membership is limited to 10 groups. This is very bad in my opinion. I understand the concept of wanting users to be more involved and contribute in the groups you're a member of, but 25 seemed adequate. I dropped from 22 groups to 8 groups so I could join 2 new ones and that was really not something I enjoyed doing. I don't see myself ever leaving the groups I'm in now and for that reason, I would like a little more leeway so I could contribute in other private group forums. I'm sure I'm not the only old school member that shares the same opinion. * Group quick links should return. An example would be bungie.net/group/16555 or bungie.net/group/destiny. * Adding a news section to groups is needed. It should be similiar to Bungie.net news, allowing header images, unlimited image/YouTube video embedding, and commenting on news stories. Announcements (pinned topics/stickies) should be visible above the group forum. * Group membership type should be displayed on the group homepage and when browsing groups. * Groups should be given more customization options, such as uploading their own header and logo/avatar as well as designing their own color scheme. * Groups I've Founded should be changed to Groups I Manage. That section should list groups that you are an Administrator or Founder of. The other section should list all of the groups you don't have elevated permissions in. * Starting a related topic in a group should not be created as a public topic. * Text markup and links should be allowed in the Group Description. * A blocked user feature for groups would prevent a user from joining a group, regardless of group membership type. It would also prevent the user from posting in group topics. Blacklisting a member should not remove them from the group. * Searching for members in groups should be added again. * Only the founder can create group public topics when Admin only is checked in Group Settings. Since Administrators can modify group settings, they should be allowed to create group public topics. * Founders and Administrators can only edit/delete the original post of a group topic. This should be changed. * Changing membership from requires approval to open/closed does not affect members in pending queue. If changing to open, all pending members should be accepted automatically. If changing to closed, all pending members should be rejected automatically. * Users should be able to leave the group from the group homepage. If a user leaves a group, that user should automatically unfollow that group. A user should be not be able to unfollow a group that user is a member of. * Allow for multiple Founders to be assigned to one group. * Custom security roles should be implemented. Here's what I'm suggesting for permissions.
Permissions View Group Activity View Public Topics View Private Topics Create Public Topics Create Private Topics Start Related Topics Post In Public Topics Post In Private Topics Edit Other's Posts Delete Posts Submit News Approve News/Post News Directly Edit News Delete News Promote Demote (would not be able to demote users with same permissions or elevated permissions) Approve Members Reject Users Kick Members (would not be able to kick users with same permissions or elevated permissions) Modify Group Settings Modify Group Security Roles/Full Control (users assigned with this permission are listed as Founder) Note: Each news story would have its own visibility permissions.
