Is the amount of followers you have a new bragging right among the ever growing community? I'm starting to see people complain about "follower elitism". What's your opinion on this my fellow community members? Some users have even suggested it's removal. Should it be removed?
I've noticed that a large portion of the naysayers are complaining because they've got no followers.

I think starting popular #'s should be the new elitism.
-
No, just the new version of sub4sub.
-
Now we have to worry about accounts being created for the sole purpose of buffing the number of followers of other users.
-
The only followers i care about are the ones i earn on Soundcloud.com

Edited by Evilcam: 1/13/2013 1:33:07 AMI'm going to look down on people if they have lots of followers, because it defies easy expectations. Unfortunately, when people start expecting some of us to look down on people for having (not bragging about, but having) followers, there are less places to go philosophically which will allow us to defy expectations. Though, there are still places to go. I will cross that river when I get there. So for now, I scorn all you follower havers!
-
lolfollowers. I don't understand why people would care for that.
-
People will always find a reason to claim that they are better than others. If it wasn't followers then it would be join date, and if it wasn't that it would be the lowers member id number. Don't let it get to you and it won't be a problem.
-
it'll never surpass #mythics, no matter the number
-
I really doubt we'll see anyone get elitist about followers, just seems like such a dumb thing to go around bragging about.
-
I have like 3 #GetOnMyLevelPlebs
-
I have 0 #hipster
-
It shouldn't be but of course it is.
-
I thought you said something meaningful there for a second, but then I realised that you have only one follower.
-
I don't like the idea of working for my elitism. I'll leave the followers to the try-hards.
-
Titles were worth the pretend Elitism because it was actually some sort of accomplishment. Followers? Not so much. As far as I know I have more than most non-Bungie Employees. But I don't feel any special about that. Followers are just people that find your posts interesting. Unlike with titles, you can't really pretend you're better than anyone for having more followers. It's just people will find entertainment in your posts so they follow you is all. Apparently a fair number of people find my posts interesting or informative or whatever. Pickles. That's cool and all, but it doesn't make me better than anyone else. So, to answer the question? No, it is not really a bragging right. It's just 'there.'
-
This isn't new, people have used popularity as a method of measuring their self worth for a long time now. This just quantifies that.
-
Hey wait, I'm still awesome. I follow my own bad jokes more than anyone. I've always been the dork reading my old posts like a time capsule. I'm here for my entertainment... and I'm hard enough to please, screw the rest of you saps for not knowing aceness when you see it. ps... #Aceness Haha, I really like the system. It should most definitely NOT be removed.
-
I've got no followers. All of you are shit compared to me.

Edited by Sesto: 1/13/2013 12:43:49 AMfolllow me i'll follow u k? Seriously though, "followers" should be hidden. Maybe let the person know someone is following them, but no one else should know.
-
I don't see a reason for the system being removed. Sure, it can serve to slightly strengthen the egos of those with an above average amount of followers, but 99% of the elitism on this site is satirical. If you want more followers, just make quality posts and don't be a jerk.

Obviously, at least, until a title replacement comes around
