12 A.M. marks the end of an era.

On a more serious note, tonight officially marks the end of an era. 10 years ago Bungie gave us one of the greatest games of all time. In 2007 they ended the story of Master Chief, gave us a nice filler called ODST and IMO a brilliant game called Reach (*zips flame suit). Well tonight at 12 A.M. millions of gamers will be picking up the new Halo 4. Some will be halo ancients who have been around since the beginning and some will be new generation gamers just discovering Halo and all its glory. No matter which one you are, 12 A.M. marks the end of an era. A Halo game comes out and Bungie's name is not on it. While they are moving on to bigger and better things, lets take a moment to reflect on some of our fondest Halo moments Bungie has brought us. What has made your jaw drop? what has sent chills up your body? For me, the whole Halo 2 campaign was amazing, the level where you have to kill the Heretic is something I am not likely to forget anytime soon. So Bungie Community, it is your turn, what was the best memory from your Halo/Bungie experience?

 • I have never felt more detached from the Halo universe than I have with Halo 4. Not to discredit the game because it really is a lot of fun to play, good story, visuals and what have you. I'm just in the process of trying to get reinvested into the universe since it left Bungie. Honestly I'm more excited and looking forward to see what Bungie is capable of doing with their new (non-Halo) IP!

 •
Posted by: T1d3
Posted by: DeeJ Thanks for the kind words, T1d3. However, at Bungie, we are far more interested in the beginnings of eras than we are in the ends of them. Not much really changes tonight. Bungie is still here. We still make games we want to play. Halo is still a good game - or at least that seems to be the case. And, the Bungie Community will be a passionate mob who loves to engage in heated debate about all things game-related - and otherwise. It will be interesting to see what you have to say about this game, and to play it with you. Above all else, remember that some of our good friends bled for Halo 4, and we want nothing more than for them to succeed.
I want nothing less than for 343i to succeed. I have high hopes for this game, and I'm going to the midnight launch party tonight to pick my copy up. I never want to see anyone fail (unless it is Auburn).
:'(

 • Every new beginning comes from some other beginning's end. I believe that Halo 4 was one of, if not the best, Halo game. That is not a slight at Bungie, no, I simply feel that 343i was able to tap into those elements that made the past Halo games so good and amplify them.

 • I have many a fond memory of playing the Halo games throughout the years, but one that I recently relived, was the Off the rock, through the bush, nothing but jackal sequence. I remember thinking, damn, Marty really outdid himself here, and Cortanas comment right after, and how responsible I felt for the marines safety.. So many feelings bubbled up. Gave me the chills. I just paused the game, went to the fridge and poured myself a glass of Coke, and took a deep breath from the crisp evening air. Seconds later I was back, sniping pesky Jackals. • I would say that Bungie is thinking "Now the gate has been unlatched!" They are totally free to explode new awesomeness all over the gaming world, and they will.

 • My best memory would be coop grenade jumping through New Mombasa with the Sputnik skull on in Halo 2. Best thing ever!

 • Sorry I missed this, I haven't been on the forums in a few days because I've been... well, playing Halo 4. Good post though. So many good times since 2001 when I became a Halo gamer. Thanks Bungie. Looking forward to the beginning of the new era here, though!

 • My best Halo memories are tied to the community, and the awesome people who I have grown real friendships with over the years, as well as the co-op bonding sessions with my wife. (She's a gamer, too. I'm very lucky for that) Haven't been to active lately, as my kids have taken over my life. However, I will say looking back now, I'm kinda kicking myself in ass for not preordering Halo 4. I was really skeptical, and after reading numerous reviews, I realize I was wrong to not pick it up. But that leaves something for the wifey to get me for christmas. Lol

 • For me, it would absolutely have to be the first time I played Halo 3's Multiplayer. The sheer speed and ferocity of the carnage was NOTHING like the Campaign, every second counted, one false move and BOOM, dead. I had completed the Campaign a few times on Legendary, so I was pretty well versed with the game - but nothing could have prepared me for the Hell-storm of Matchmaking.

 • I loved the pelican ride in Halo 2, and getting to "flip" it afterwards trying to send myself and co-op partners into the air with it. Good times.

 • Goldeneye was awesome - but doesn't mean I'd go out and buy a new Goldeneye game, even if half the Rare staffers had made it. Halo > Halo 2 > Halo 3. (Reach doesn't count - it was a pants COD copy) The trend is only going one way, and that's nostalgia, baby.

 • Well the era ended on July 7, 2011 for me. Bungie will forever hold the title of a great developer in my mind, and they gave me (and most of the Bungie community) a decade+ of great entertainment. Hopefully, this continues when the darkness clears.

 • Everything changes and moves on, should be good to see what happens and where Bungie takes us next. Until then I think most of us will still have fun with this new Halo.

 • I'm glad someone made this thread. We celebrated this with a Carnage yesterday, so I guess we can celebrate here on the forums in this thread. BUNGIE, it's been a hell of a run. You made a great game, and a lot of people loved them all, even if a vocal minority may have said otherwise. But without Halo, your a horse with a broken leg. And that means I'm gonna have to put you down. *Starts crying while slipping shells into shotgun.* Kidding! Either way, you had a great run with Halo, and I can't wait to see what your gonna do with Destiny.
Posted by: CrazzySnipe55 Beginnings of eras are far more interesting than endings. What happened in the year 3 BC? Anything? Off the top of your head? No. Nothing. Of course not. What happened in the year 1 AD? -blam!- Jesus was born. ©
