• i think its the opposite. i liked Nylunds writing way better then Travis. I think she took the original characters like Halsey, Hood, even the Spartan Blue team and under minded them greatly. Especially the way she has Naomi portrayed, in all the books we never seen a Spartan, in the battlefield, take off their helmet while in battle, it seemed almost cocky. i guess what i am trying to say is Nylund seem to go one way and Travis took it another way. but thats my opinion.

 •
Posted by: Wolverfrog In my opinion, Glasslands is written better than any other Halo book from a technical standpoint - including the Forerunner trilogy.
Lol. I'll say for now because I was dumbfounded by your incredibly dumb statement. Glasslands, compared with other Halo novels, it's utter crap, probably worse than The Flood.
Some people - not everyone - take issue with the way Travis portrays certain characters. I'd say that she took Nylund's rather dull cardboard cutouts, and breathed life and personality into them.
Dull cardboard cutouts? Are you mad or just blind? She would have expanded those characters but no, she radically changed it and look at what happened in Glasslands. It's total disaster.
It's the only Halo book that's actually had me engaged, reading because I wanted to read it rather than because I wanted to learn more about the universe.
Cool story, that's your opinion. It appears that "majority" treat it as crap novel. I might be wrong although. What she did add to the Halo universe? Little to nothing.

 • First Strike should be your next one. Don't skip Evolution. Lots of good stories.

 • Read First Strike next if you want to continue after the Fall of Reach. The Cole Protocol and Contact Harvest are excellent one-shots that can be read whenever. (Contact Harvest is my personal favorite.) Before you read Glasslands, read The Ghost of Onyx because the events lead up to Glasslands, and the remaining two books in the Kilo-Five Trilogy. (To be released.) Halo Evolutions volumes 1 and 2 both contain 7 excellent short stories that tell the stories of many forgotten heroes and/or heroic characters that you may not know about by simply playing the games. They are very memorable, and emotional, and I highly recommend them. Finally, we have the first two books in the three-part Forerunner Saga. (Cryptum and Primordium). They are very well-written stories that vividly describe the events before, and leading up to the activation of the Halo Array, including the Human-Forerunner war, orgins of the flood, as well as explaining some information on the Precursors. There isn't a lot of action scenes in these books, and they are written like histories for the most part. They carry a generally calming, adventurous feeling throughout, with occasional moments of action, suspense, and revelation. However if you don't really care much about what happened over 100,000 years before the events of the games, then they might not be for you. I do still strongly recommend them. Anyway, I hope this helped you make a decision. -Johnjohns2

 • As a first read through, I always recommend reading them in the order that they were originally published (all of the Halo books ever published). After that initial read, I would say reading them in chronological order by the timeline makes sense. It's really up to you, but I personally find that to help my understanding the greatest. • This is the order of the main books: The Fall of Reach The Flood First Strike Ghosts of Onyx Glasslands The Thursday War(Comes out Oct. 2nd) These are separate individual stories: Contact Harvest The Cole Protocol Evolution(You can skip this one, you won't be missing much) Forerunner Saga: Cryptum Primordium Silentium (Comes out in January) I recommend to go through and read the main chain of books (the first group), then read the individual unrelated ones (2nd Group), and lastly read the Forerunner Saga. • Doesn't really matter too much, but whatever you do, do not read Glasslands or its sequel Thursday War until you have read all of the other Halo books and played all of the games.

 • Probably the order they came out or the order in which they happen according to the timeline.
