Why do mods not carpet ban constantly?

Why mods not do this more often? It's a great way of teaching people not to respond to a obviously against the rules thread! And after getting carpet banned I, for one, learned my lesson. Is it only not done to keep people on this site? Is it because some mods just want havoc on the flud?
Note: I do not know what the the thead was about nor who replied. Although I am positive OP didn't bump it 3 pages in a row.

They walk here and there, they say; at times unnoticed. Just remember Bungie Mods take many forms and disguises with the power at their fingertips to scorch our rears in a split second. Do you want this place to turn into a 343i forum? The more strict the banning becomes, the less people will be tempted to come here for fear of being banned. I think the moderation is fine how it is.

I got carpet banned and lost my exalted title this week :( I was just spamming every new thread with inb4trippiehippy because the dude was posting -blam!- in every thread and no mods were online to ban him at the time. Didn't realize that the thread could be carpet banned at the time.

And like stated before, you helped keep a thread titled "18 year old titties" (something like that) alive, if anything you're lucky he didn't give you a 2 week.

Agree with S bot. There was no reason to continue posting off-topic spam in a thread that's against the rules. I reported it as soon as I saw it and left. What's the point in posting in that thread?
