Halo 2: Anniversary - What it would feature

Just a note before you read on, this is not a thread about rumours about Halo 2: Anniversary. Also, I know there are plenty of existing threads to do with a Halo 2 remake, however this thread's purpose is to provide in-depth information on what a Halo remake could have. I remember when the Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary was announced and the Halo community went crazy in excitement of this long rumoured and awaited title. I, like some, was not among those people however, as I enjoyed Halo 2 over the other titles. As a late-comer to the Halo series, I played Halo 3 and then proceeded to go back and play the old titles in the correct order just before the release of Halo 3: ODST. Now, as a fan of the Halo universe and someone with too much time on their hands, I've been thinking for some time now how they could really bring back the title that kicked Halo into one of the most successful multiplayer shooters ever, and it just doesn't seem right that one of the most loved Halo titles isn't already on the Xbox 360, yet every other Halo game already is (Halo CE, Anniversary, 3, ODST, Wars - all but 2). So here's what I've come up with - Halo 2: Remastered (XBLA)

Overview The game would ship with the disc itself and a code to download the Nostalgia Map Pack for Halo 4, so it would work pretty much like Halo: CEA with the exclusive maps also being accessible from the Halo 2: Anniversary disc (more info further down).

Controls The menu and vehicle controls would be the same as always, but the in-game controls would be as follows: [A button] Jump [B button] Change grenade/Dual wield/Reload left (dual wield) [X button] Reload/ Reload right (dual wield) [Y button] Change weapon Flashlight (Master Chief)/Active Camo (Aribiter) Grenade/Fire left (dual wield) Melee Fire weapon/Fire right Move player (tilt stick)/Crouch (press stick) Aim (tilt stick)/Zoom (press stick) [D-Pad] Down - Lower/Raise weapon [Start] Pause game [Back] Switch between classic/remastered mode

Features The main feature would be the new HD remastered campaign, playable in 1-Player solo and 2-Player co-op via splitscreen, system link and Xbox LIVE. It would also feature access to the Nostalgia Map Pack, a collection of 8 maps (sorry, not the magic number 7) brought back from the original Halo 2 game playable through Halo 4 with two maps coming from the end of the original trilogy, Halo 3.

Nostalgia Map Pack The Nostalgia Map Pack would work pretty much the same as the Anniversary Map Pack, with the difference being it no longer has a Firefight map due to Firefight being replaced with Spartan Ops. This means there will two extra War Games maps instead, which would be taken from Halo 3. The maps in the Nostalgia Map Pack would include: From Halo 2: * Coagulation * Lockout (yes, another lockout remake) * Terminal * Foundation From Halo 3: * The Pit * Sandtrap (Map list created from research of Halo 2 & 3 favourite maps and are therefore going to have different opinions).

Achievements There would be achievements only on the campaign, and would be awarded for accomplishing tasks such as: - Completing missions (any difficulty) - Completing the campaign (separate achievements for each difficulty) - Getting kills with certain weapons - Finding the skulls - Finding certain easter eggs - Completing missions/objectives under difficult circumstance And many others.

I hope the you all like this idea, it took quite a while to type. I would've liked to have gone into some deeper detail in certain areas, but there isn't an awful lot to say about a game that has already been made! EDIT I've given the thread a complete change to adjust it to a Halo 2: Anniversary rather than the original idea, Halo 2: HD which was an XBLA reboot of the current game. Also, note that Halo: CEA came out 10 years after Halo: CE, so the following that pattern this game would be released in 2014. Please let me know what you think and what could be added/removed - I'm open to suggestions. [Edited on 07.09.2012 11:40 AM PDT]

 • Skull menu! Except it's possible to turn on/off skulls without restarting the level. The only reason this was needed in H3, ODST, and Reach was because of campaign scoring. But since CEA didn't have either campaign scoring or Theater or online campaign stats tracking, there was no point having to restart the mission. Think about it. It'd have been better if the skulls could be turned on/off without restarting: -Turn on Bandanna so you can have an easier time getting to a point then turn it off so you can have an actual challenge. -Turn on Malfunction so you lose 1 hud piece then turn it off so that piece is gone permanently until you turn the skull back on. -Turn on Boom when playing The Maw so you can get past Flood easily and feel like a god then turn it off so you don't have to go through the hell -blam!- up hog run. Turning on most new skulls just ruins the fun. It should have been possible to turn them off whenever. Finally, perma camo. It must still be intact. Even the old skool trickers use it. It would be ABOMINATION to force us to restart just to turn on/off 1 freaking skull. And instead of Blind skull, they should give us complete hud customization, especially if Theater is in H2A (it was going to be in H2 anyway). [Edited on 07.15.2012 8:52 PM PDT]

 • No, no, no, no, no. B is melee. No exceptions. Anything else is not Halo. And no, if Halo 2 gets a remake, it should be a full remake. All Halo 2 maps remastered in HD, with actual Halo 2 multiplayer, not a port to another game. Plus the addition of Forge and Theatre to the new Halo 2. [Edited on 07.15.2012 7:26 PM PDT]

 •
Posted by: Dark Hunter 2100 A map pack for Halo 4 would be awful. I want the original stuff, not some messed up, stretched and edited map pack for another game with another sandbox. The only reason CEA didn't have its own multiplayer was because it had no premise to start on, with no coding or adaptability for Xbox live. A port of its own multiplayer would have been a disaster. But besides built-in maps, I pretty much agree with you.
I myself agree... I threw this thread together a few days ago as a standalone Halo 2 title some time after Halo 4, or perhaps on a next gen console, but no one replied so I changed everything to suit what the majority likes. I'll probably change it again later, when I find the time. [Edited on 07.09.2012 5:24 PM PDT]
