Bungie.net Search 2.0

The Bungie.net/Search page is great for finding the most recent posts made by a user (Forums - Author). The other fields (News, Games, Support, Forums - All) don't always give you the results that you are looking for. Updating this feature would be beneficial for Bungie.net members and this is how I would do it. Would these ideas listed below encourage you to search more? Please feel free to share your input on the topic. Thank you. Bungie.net Search 2.0 would have four sections for each field (search, sort by, sort order, filters). Search is where you type what you are looking for. Sort lets you choose how and what order you would like your results displayed. Filters let you restrict your search. The advanced section would be hidden by default. This is what I came up with while brainstorming. I'm not expecting all of this to be implemented; it's just food for thought. This game finder could have a lot more options, but I care more about the forum search being enhanced. If you'd like the expand on this, you're more than welcome to. Search Game Title Sort By Relevance Title Date Duration Sort Order Ascending Descending Filters Type (Invasion, Arena, Competitive, Campaign, Firefight, Custom) Maps Playlists Advanced Filters Player(s) In Game * Player Placed (ex. Typing Player A AND Player B would only include games they were both in. Typing Player A OR Player B would find games that at least one of them is in.
SEARCH SUPPORT:
Bungie.net doesn't have a huge guide or support section. If they were to include FAQs for Bungie.net and their games, I would consider creating a search for support. • If we had this, it would be awesome. It's detailed, could laid out in a way that won't be easily confusing, and make it incredibly easy not only to find something, but also actually make it find nearly exactly what you wanted/needed.

 • I really like the ideas to improve the search system. They look like they could definitely speed up looking for specific items. I would love to have the search system you've included in your post implemented into the site.

 • I like the sound of this. Would definitely cut down the searchbar threads overall.

 • They should completely rework Google for exclusive bungie.net use. That would be the optimal search system.

 •
Posted by: Delta 15t Sounds great. Hopefully the web team can pick up on these proposals if they already have not. Anything that would improve the search tools here would be great. I know this doesn't help much, but the OP is pretty thorough. ~Delta
I agree. I mean, the internet was here along with Bungie.net back in, what was it 1987? Or was it '86? I can't recall, hell I might not even have all my facts straight... But in any regard, you'd think they would have had time to perfect the Search system. And OP, I like what you've come up with, and I'd love to see some of what you've mentioned implemented down the road. [Edited on 02.10.2011 1:43 PM PST]

 • Aye, these sound generally like excellent ideas. I'd also like to be able to get a 'search for older replies' option when you check someone's post history. I appreciate that limiting the number of posts in the initial history is useful, but being able to search through more than 12 pages of posts is also fairly handy at times.

 •
Posted by: Spartan 104 S2AM It's a wonderful idea, but how long would that take to implement? From the looks of it, it would take a few man hours...
You're right. I'm not sure if this would be possible or realistic to implement. I was just brainstorming. I would appreciate any improvement(s) made to the search feature on Bungie.net.
Posted by: Duardo To be honest I'd just like to sort by date and thread title.
I included some filter options that I would never use, but maybe others would. It's just food for thought. By the way, there are some ways you could use this to help moderate the forums. Search: Post Sort By: Date Sort Order: Descending Filter: Public Forums Only Filter: ALL CAP Posts Only Filter: Blacklisted Posts Disabled Advanced Filter: Posted Today Search: Post Sort By: Date Sort Order: Descending Filter: Public Forums Only Filter: Original Posts Only Filter: Blacklisted Posts Disabled Advanced Filter: Posted Today Advanced Filter: Post Is Less Than 5 Lines Advanced Filter: Post Is Less Than 50 Characters Search: Thread Title Sort By: Last Reply Sort Order: Descending Filter: ALL CAP Threads Only Filter: Locked Threads Disabled Advanced Filter: Last Reply After Yesterday Advanced Filter: Thread Has More Than 10 Views Also, I've seen a lot of threads suggesting notifications to let you know someone quoted you, but you could use this search feature instead. • Jeez Cryptic, you got everything in there, well done. If Bungie implemented all this, we'd have the opposite problem of what we have now. It'd be impossible NOT to find something.

 •
Posted by: Duardo To be honest I'd just like to sort by date and thread title.
I think you could toss in key words of posts, too, the programming requirements notwithstanding (I don't know how hard it would be to do).

 • Overall I like the idea. I don't use the searchbar much as it is, so I don't know all of the current in and outs, and what not, but what you suggest seems to be a great idea. It looks like a great way to find specific things, because I know from past experience finding specific things isn't always easy. Overall, I'm all for this idea. On paper right now, it looks like a lot, but all in all this could be very beneficial.
