Who's ready for some Campaign? (June 14)

Unlike most of you, I play Halo for Campaign. I don't care about being competitive, shooting my friends, or using a number to add weight to my opinion. I just like an enriching story, spectacular Music (no music in Matchmaking is there?) and shooting aliens. No I don't play it to say "I finished" or for Achievements. I play it because I enjoy it more. In fact, what first got me into Halo was shooting Elites and "Covenant Dance" playing while I wound my way through the corridors of the Pillar Of Autumn. I still enjoy multiplayer, matchmaking, and custom games with my buddies, so I'm really looking forward to using the new Forge and making my own custom games. However, matchmaking in Reach really disappointed me; that doesn't mean Campaign or Firefight will! Can't wait to ride the Pioneer and splatter some Brutes, Elites, Skirmies, and maybe we'll see some new enemies? (source) We're getting a Campaign Demo at E3, which is mid June. (Thank Hylebos for counter) Who else is stoked? Long live Campaign! [Edited on 06.11.2010 11:15 AM PDT]

 • Campaign has always been the dominant factor of Halo for me, ever since 2001. It has given me some truly unforgettable experiences, backed up with Marty's utterly phenominal score. I spoiled Halo 3 and ODST for myself by watching the leaked footage, I vow to not repeat this for Reach. The only things 'm watching is E3 footage and trailers, nothing else until I finish the game.

 •
Posted by: annoyinginge In Halo, Campaign is WAY more intense, interesting and generally better than Multiplayer in every way. I thought everybody knew this.
I think it's a matter of preference. For instance, in Campaign, the enemies usually spawn in the same place, so after 10 or so playthroughs, you basically know how it's going to be all the time. In Multiplayer, it's dynamic and you constantly have to adjust your playing styles to fit each situation. I personally am a Campaign person though, because of the music, the story, and the level designs. Multiplayer Maps are too small, and I prefer to work with teammates to fight enemies that aren't going to call me a bunch of names when they lose. plus, Halo 2's campaign got me into halo.

Don't get me wrong I love multiplayer, but that is icing to the incredible cake that is Campaign with a friend.
Indeed. I enjoy Campaign a lot, especially with a good buddy. I think one of Halo's most revolutionary features was co-op play through the campaign. Wish more people could realize how much fun it is :/
Meathead Multiplayer Grrs will never realize how good campaign is. Unless they're belittling another human being, they won't be happy. Thread's back up...Good stuff. I noticed a trending "Favorite Halo 1 Moments". I'll list mine. -The level "Keyes". I was in a rush through the WHOLE thing and it was difficult, scary, crazy, and totally awesome fighting both Covenant and Flood in a frenzy to save the captain. Also a great transition into The Maw. -Those brief moments in "343 Guilty Spark" where you begin to realize that the scary-ass alien things you just saw on Jenkin's helmet cam are what is COMING THROUGH THE DOORS AT ME OH MY GOD WHAT THE HELL SHOOT IT SHOOT IT SHOOT IT SHOOT IT DEAD AAAAAAAAAAAAA! -Already been mentioned, but the Zealot on "The Silent Cartographer". Freakin' scary as -blam!-. -Fighting through the tunnels of Covenant on "Assault on the Control Room". -Seeing the surface of Halo for the first time. Such an epic game. So much win. I hope Reach tops it =D

What got me into Halo was Halo 2's campaign (screw all the people that hated it because it was AMAZING and to me is still the best campaign of all Halo's) and its why I was tired of the beta after a while and why I CANNOT wait foe E3

 • Halo: CE Epic Moments: *The epic "Covie and Flood" Dancing Disco during the final part of Two Betrayals before getting on a Banshee. *Epic Hit-N'-Run ending of the mission "Keyes", Epic Banshee escape during Covie-Flood ensuing mess onboard the ship. *Epic escape from Halo; The Maw was perfect; tiresome combat followed by a WTF-full-throttle run away from the Pillar of Autumn. (Honestly, the mission escape-run layout was better than H3's "Halo" ending.)

 • I need to go back and play Halo 2 campaign. I have a feeling I'd like it a whole lot better now that I've re-read the novels and played the beta and am in full Halo nostalgia mode. I never did beat the level Cortana in Halo 3 on Legendary. Last thing I have to do. Friggin' @#($*@#&$@# spitting Flood monsters! Great thread by the way. I wish there were more great campaign moment videos instead of multiplayer. Don't get me wrong I love multiplayer, but that is icing to the incredible cake that is Campaign with a friend. Epic moment: the part in Halo: CE near the end of Two Betrayals when you round the corner and your thinking, finally, the end is near! And then you see three Wraith tanks, two hunters, a zillion grunts and jackals, invisible/visible Elites and all you've got is a rocket launcher with one shot left and and a plasma rifle. And your out of grenades. And then they see you.

 • I only played through CE twice, but I loved it. I liked the second mission, where you have to hold out at a beam tower and wait for a Warthog to be dropped off. Trying to survive at that part was intense, especially on Heroic. There were like 4 different ways the enemies could pop up, and I had no medium range weapons... All I had was an AR and a Needler, with a handful of grenades. I adventually ran down the ramp and hid among the pipes, where there was a choke point and only two entrances - I was able to hold out in there, killing curious grunts and pushing back Elites, while beating down fierce Jackals. I did well until the last enemy, an Elite Major came running in and smacked me. I ran out and had a standoff among the trees on the slope, until the Pelican arrived. It was great, and it was one of the few times I actually had to make up tactics to survive in Halo. For Halo 2 - The whole game was beautiful, even for the limited graphics. It was dark, lonely and mysterious. I loved Quarantine Zone, Great Journey, and pretty much everything. The only thing that ruined my love for the game was the ability to speed run and get out of the maps easily. That's really what made me play the game even more though. One of my most memorable moments were the later Arbiter levels, where I had been rejected by the Brutes and had to take them out, and stop Halo from being activated. The music really set the atmosphere. Amazing game. ...Too lazy to type up the rest. But music is key, along with tactics and stuff. Yeah.

 •
Posted by: TriscuitCracker Best part of Halo CE: When you first step onto Halo and take in the wide vista, the gigantic plain ahead of you, and the view to the left of the sun setting on the water and the gigantic landscape to explore. And you and a buddy get to explore it together. The only level of Halo CE I don't go back and play are the "Keyes" second to last level. Even the Library is brilliant. I will admit what sold me on Halo was that second level, I'd just landed and was absorbing the fantastic scenery and realizing that this game wasn't just a bunch of corridors and different rooms, it was a wide open expanse where you could go anywhere. With respect to Goldeneye and Perfect Dark, this was an eye opener. Then I shot down the Banshee with my pistol of all things, and promptly watched open mouthed through my scope as an Elite actually flew out of the cockpit, the weaopons flew off of his body just as physics would allow them and landed next to my body for me to pick up. Then the Banshee splattered me, it haveing never occured to me that a vehicle could kill me. Never looked back after that. Halo 2, the only levels I go back and play are the first three on Earth and "Delta Halo" While the latter levels have beautiful scenery, I feel it has very much a linear funneling quality and not quite as fun. Definitely not a bad experience though. Love the story. Halo 3 all I play is Tsavo Highway, Storm, Ark and Covenant. Coincidentally, these are all heavy vehicle levels. Love the look of all the levels but some of them just aren't that fun to play. Instead of being scary and a sense of dread/fun, the Flood levels are annoying and frustrating to me. From what I've seen of Reach, it seems like it will harken back to Halo CE, a few cut scenes have reminded me of Truth and Reconcilliation.
I agree with you 100%, especially on the Halo 3 levels. Those are the only levels I go back and do the most, with The Storm being my most played level. I actually like all the Halo 2 levels though. there's something in all of them for me. My favorite level in CE would definitely be Halo. And I love Coastal Highway and Data Hive in ODST.

Except in Halo 3, instead of the Covenant, I usually play Halo. The Covenant is just annoying to me TBH, and I only play Halo, the last level, for the Control Room battle, after that I quit.
