If you've seen the field guide in the Halo 3: ODST project page, you should be able to tell that the end of the service number contains the soldier's initials.

Well, the Rookie's, as it says, is classified. However, his service number ends with JD.
I did some digging in Bungie's super secret archives and found this!
The doctor is in.
Posted by: Squishy0705
if i looked like that i too would wear a helmet to hide my face lols...........i still say his name is John doe or Jeff Dunham!!!!
Jeff Dunham FTW!!!!
Jeff Dunham that crappy comedian? His funniest joke was the one where he calls himself -blam!- for driving a Prius. Edit: I can't believe a synonym for happy gets a blam. I'm surprised LGBTQ folks aren't up in arms about it being a perfectly normal word [Edited on 10.27.2010 10:13 PM PDT]

This page from the recent article at SGP actually provides a pretty solid guess at what the initials "JD" actually stand for. This isn't a Rick Roll, etc. Before you dismiss the theory, realize the link is to page 5 of a 7 page article. You might want to start at page one to put the "JD Theory" into context with the article's theory as a whole. I think it's actually quite convincing. We've been laughing at this thread for about a year now- so please pardon the sudden seriousness- but I would be remiss if I didn't post it. I typically don't venture out far enough from my own site to post here, but this- I feel- is worth it. P.S. We've already "heard it all" from general naysayers and the closed-minded, alike. Please spare us your tin foil hat references. Many of us at the SGP are not incredibly fond of all the connections we've possibly uncovered in our favorite game franchise, but "it is what it is" as the kids like to say today.

Gunny Buck (Tony) will usually tell him to "shut the -blam!- up" many times during a battle (chat).
