New Forum dedicated to old school bungie goodness?

Just look around the b.net forums, and you notice a considerable lack maturity and/or sanity. Now, I don't want to start noob calling or anything, but half the threads in this place make me want to gouge my eyes out with a fork. I was wondering, what do you think about a new forum dedicated to pre-halo bungie games? The Septagon is a nice place to hang and all, but as the Septagon is dedicated solely to community discussions, I feel a need for a place were I can sit down and carry on mature, intelligent conversations about the bungie games of lore. Again, I'm not trying to single out any one person or group of people for criticism, this is just a suggestion on my part. Your thoughts please. [Edited on 6/5/2004 11:15:53 PM]

 • I look at the description for the Underground and wonder... maybe you could search for a chapter that enjoys that sorta of stuff... Veteran Bungie Fans?

 • A forum for old-school Bungie fans? Yeah, yeah, yeah.

 • That seems like a good idea, even though Im not an old-school Bungie fan. It would be difficult keeping these so-called "noobs"(not really noobs, just people that are terrible with grammar/typing) out of the forum. I just dont think it would be possible.

 • They probably just wouldn't go there.

 • Nice idea...but I think the bit here is "probably" not go there. Think it was Frankie who recently said that they had somewhere like 40,000 members on the forums now....sheesh. Aweful lot of folks to cram in here.

 • Youre right, there are around 40,000 members, but what about active members? Im guessing around 5,000-10,000. How many of those members use correct english? Around 1,000...well, maybe more.

 • All these things are valid concerns, but I don't think it would be that big of a deal. Most of the "l337 SP34k3rs" don't really come here to often, so I don't see why they would bother us too much on a new "Old School" forum. Probably the most annoying things we'd have to deal with would be the occasional "OMG WTF IS MARTHARON?!?!11!1" kind of deals, and then all we would have to do is politely tell them what it is and link them to the respective page on b.net. C'mon people, if we show enough interest in this it just might happen, and I think that would be beneficial to everyone.

 • Seems like a good idea, Im sure stosh and/or Shishka will come in and comment also. Ive figured it out. First, to get into the new forum(s) you would have to apply. To apply, Bungie would make an application consisting of: 'Username', 'Real Name', 'Age'(Under 13, 13 and above), 'Describe yourself', and 'Why do you want access to these forums?'. Depending on which age they pick will determine the level of correct english they must use. When you 'Describe yourself' it should be written with proper punctuation, capitalization, and spelling. If you picked '13 and above' you should be able to use all of these with perfection. If you chose 'Under 13' then some mistakes would be allowed. Same applies to 'Why do you want access to these forums?'. If a forum moderator approves an application an e-mail will be sent to the corresponding username. In the e-mail will be a password to enter the forums. Thats it! Pretty simple, but thats all I can do with a 10th grade education. Im sure there are flaws, but you guys need to add your own opinions, or add on to this idea. ST [Edited on 6/6/2004 2:46:18 PM]

 • I'll admit that I haven't frequented these forums at all because I noticed an obscenely high noise to signal ratio. Scarier to think about is the fact that a lot of the "annoying wanks" from the Myth days are likely more mature, intelligent individuals now. Myth couldn't really have been released almost 7 years ago, could it? A forum dedicated to the older Bungie games, would certainly be a great way to help keep the "halo kiddies" away. I never thought a Mature game from Bungie would actually reduce the median age of their fanbase - surprises come in all shapes, sizes and ages though. As for screening, I honestly don't believe it's necessary. Without any common ground, and against a vastly superior intellect, anyone coming to sow dischord would likely find themselves ill-equipped to handle themselves. Consider that a self-filtering apparatus of sorts. Anyway - I too hope this idea finds official sanction - I wouldn't mind finding a Bungie forum that didn't scare me to keep up with. Cheers, --El B™

 • Yeah, my idea sounds very vague now. There would be no correct answer to any of the questions('Describe yourself' and 'Why do you want access to these forums?'). That is what this thread is for though, a guess-and-check-like deal. Im surprised stosh and/or Shishka havent said anything yet.

 • We need a forum that you have to pay to get into. Like 7 dollars a year. That would give a place for the older less annoying users a place to talk.

 • Then again, little kids would think they are missing out on ‘awesome Halo tricks’ and ask mommy and daddy to pay to get in….

 • The problem isn't exclusive post Halo people (which, I am proud to say, I will no longer be a group of very soon) but rather the post new Bungie.net users. Remember the Underground before the flood of new people? People -blam!-ed about it but it really wasn't all that bad. You know what I say? All the pre new Bungie.net people get together and do a HOSTILE RETAKOVER OF THE UNDERGROUND!!!!!!

 • Ahem. There never has been, I suppose. In all the world, in all the history of Bungie, a greater threat than Idiots. The pre-New Honess Bungie.net falls into the past. These true fans going forth every morn to guard Bungie, and all it stands for.We shall fight in the Flood, we shall fight in the Forums, we shall fight on the seas and oceans, We shall retake the Underground, whatever the cost may be. We shall fight on the beaches, we shall fight on the landing grounds, we shall fight in the fields, and in the streets, we shall fight in the hills. We shall never surrender!

 • Just thought I'd mention - don't let my "member since" date fool you. I am the same El Bastard™ of Myth TFL Hex editing fame. Even though I played Desert Storm, I'm not going to claim it made me a Bungie fan on its own. Watching my younger brother play PiD gets that credit. Ahh the good old days of AppleTalk Marathon fun. Rather than an actual monetary price, why don't we just use credit card (read also age) verification? No charges need to be made... I mean, not that $7 per year would break me - just looking out for some of the lower-incomed of us old BungieFen™

 • Yah...plz ignore my join date too. I think a vet. bungie fan forum would be nice. But try to get rid of the stereotype that young ppl only know of halo.=-) Some of us are only 14 (probably one of the youngest bungie vet ppl u'll find). P.S. avoid the fee too because we young'n's dont have the money or are too young to get a job. although i'm aiming for a summer one......

However, if money was involved, I think a kind of "one time access fee" would be more plausible. Or Hell, we could just link the Old School forum directly from the Septagon, that way keeping it off the main page. I think that would probably keep the amount of spammers down. • All the money could seriously go towards bungie's fanfest/community budget. I mean I would glady donate 7 dollars a year to bungie so they can run bigger and badder fanfests. Plus you'd get access to forum virtually free of idiots and jerks. I think we should have at least one b.net subscriber forum.
