New Forum dedicated to old school bungie goodness?
Just look around the b.net forums, and you notice a considerable lack maturity and/or sanity. Now, I don't want to start noob calling or anything, but half the threads in this place make me want to gouge my eyes out with a fork. I was wondering, what do you think about a new forum dedicated to pre-halo bungie games? The Septagon is a nice place to hang and all, but as the Septagon is dedicated solely to community discussions, I feel a need for a place were I can sit down and carry on mature, intelligent conversations about the bungie games of lore. Again, I'm not trying to single out any one person or group of people for criticism, this is just a suggestion on my part.
Your thoughts please.

I'd pay $7 a year just to be able to read a forum thats not littered with pointless threads.

While I like the idea of an old school forum, the whole quiz thing is no good, $7 isnt a lot, I would gladly pay. Reason quiz is no good is for people like me who never knew about bungie until Halo. Not that it's a bad thing but I can't find any of the old games at game stores sround me. I would use the forum to read about the older games, they are interesting to say the least and worth reading people's thoughts on. That whole Bungie.net pro thing they had as an april fools joke in 2003 would be cool, chat room and all. i like ;) What i find most fascinating in the marathon story is the character's origins. A reanimated dead soldier of a previous, and probably frivilous war? Could he even have been the same Sgt. Eddings from PiD? [color=red]Dead soldiers were recycled in makeshift battleroid factories. Easy to manufacture chips enhanced the fragile human brain, and genetically enhanced muscles and titanium bones replaced the fragile human form. The modern battleroid was born. Of course, the war was short. Battleroids got onto both asteroids and killed almost everyone.[/color]

I wish I had money to spend on exlusive membership and plane tickets to tourny's and gettogethers :( oh, and Canadiankamikazi, dont' worry, if there was a test to prove you're not a "OMG 1 L337ZOR JOO" i'd be willing to share the answers with you ;) I'm guess i'm really just satirizing the community at large, dreaming of making ppl take maturity tests in order to post. Whereabouts do you live Surge? And as forewarning to people in B.C, no, Toronto isn't that far to go. You can get round trip flights for $150 on WestJet. I seriously am considering setting up stuff for a possibly city based tournament. The problem is there isn't one of those gaming centers in Canada as far as I know, though I bet I could convince a bunch of FutureShop employees to donate the use of their hardware.

Heh, while I could answer most of those questions, there are a few I'm not entirely sure of. Anyway...any sort of exclusive forum would be phenominal. The Underground attracts more attention to it's "general" moniker than the "old school" part. As for a paid subscription... I'd do it. [i]Especially[/i] if the money were going toward an actual official Canadian Fanfest!

I'm not sure a test would be appropriate. I would enjoy talking about the older games with people, but I have never had a chance to play them. Besides the fact that it would be a great idea to support future fanfests with extra cash. Someday, my dream of a Canadian fanfest may actually come true! (Of course, the fact that I've met only 1 other person on here from my area doesn't really help things, I do know that there is one active chapter in my city, they just don't want to talk to me ;)

Why don't fans trying to get into the "Old School" forum have to answer some random old school questions to qualify? Passing grade means entrance . . . and you have a time limit to answer them ;) no cheating! Who shot his own men in the back? Where is the name of the location you start the marathon series? Nam all the AI's found in the marathon series? How many corvettes made up the Phfor task force during M2? What is the two ultimate weapons in Minatuar? Where did Abuse take place? What was thrown into the great devoid? Who wrote the journal in TFL? What was discovered in the keep in Myth2? John was a child stolen from his family. Where is the Marine from Marathon rumored to have come from originally? Who is said explicitly to be afraid of you, the Marine from Marathon?

[/quote] Um, yeah, I'd gladly fork over admission to support a better forum, but... there was never a forum that was entire free of underbridge-dwellers and their noisome kin. So, what happens to the $7 when it comes time to drop the ban-hammer? I'm mellow with advertising it as non-refundable, but I don't want consideration of the fee to hinder mods from dropping that hammer when it's well and truly needed. -- Steve is a post-Halo Bungie fan who'd love to see the Mature part of the "M" rating come out to play more often in the forums.

Count me in. Sounds great. Halobabies has a sponsor forum as well, and it really filtered out the spam like we're hoping this one would, so, eh...yeah, sounds like it might just work.

I agree, $7 a year isnt bad at all. I dont have a job and I could come up with that in a week. Plus, if it helps out Bungie [b]Fanfests[/b] I'll do anything(well, almost).

Plus you'd get access to forum virtually free of idiots and jerks. I think we should have at least one b.net subscriber forum.

However, if money [i] was [/i] involved, I think a kind of "one time access fee" would be more plausible. Or Hell, we could just link the Old School forum directly from the Septagon, that way keeping it off the main page. I think that would probably keep the amount of spammers down.
