The Only Valid Complaint: Destiny and its "Universe"

It's a long read, but hopefully you'll see where I'm coming from. If you're a hardcore Destiny advocate, you will. TL;dr - You know you want to know more about the Vex! Why is the Speaker so cryptic? What's with the Dragons?! Why did Crota only take the moon before taking a nap? Dafux is Old Accra?? And does the Cabal have anything to do with anything?!? We need story, we need lore! If too much information will break Destiny's 10 year franchise, fighting the same 4 bad guys with only tidbits of lore will definitely do so! I can only keep myself entertained with fan fiction for so long (Props to Fireteam Shachal)! I want my playtime to have meaning!! I understand it takes a tremendous effort for a big hitting RPG to provide us with a game to delve into, but this can definitely become that game ! -------------------------------------------- Every thread in #Gaming I read just hit me in the RPG Feels, and made me realize how wondrous the Mass Effect games are all over again. Although the differences between the actual gameplay varied through each game, I still enjoyed every minute of it. Commander Shepard will always be THE badass of the universe, and quite frankly, I think Master Chief is in a run for his money. I am going to compare Destiny to Mass Effect. Not in gameplay, but story and lore. I achievement whored all over those games and read all the little planet descriptions/nonsense, always thoroughly satisfied with the galaxy I was allowed to immerse myself in, my galaxy. Every character had a fleshed out personality, whether you liked/disliked them, it's that feeling of "Tali'Zorah, bbz you're my only one" or "Fak you Saren" that made the character development rival and surpass any other game I've played to date. The menace of the ME universe was truly a menace, they had a mission and you knew what that mission was. Destroy. Although they were fairly mysterious in ME1, their motives were made clear towards the end of the game. They had no need to pussyfoot around like "The Darkness." The Reapers were actually an unfathomable enemy and even though they had the Geth, Collectors, and the Illusive Man in their pocket, they themselves, were far more powerful. This made me fear the Reapers far more than "The Darkness." Bioware spared no attempt at making the various races and cultures unique, and ultimately.. Believable. From the Asari to the Volus, each organism had a full background and each was just as special as the last. I'm not against looking up Grimoire Cards to learn about the characters I play, but shrouding everything in mystery is vastly annoying, and honestly.. Lazy. Although my Warlock is beastly (despite being shafted by Crota), Commander Shepard will always be my hero. In an RPG you're supposed to feel like a champion, a God among men. Even if a certain level keeps wrecking you, getting past that level only adds to that feeling. Knowing you slayed the Collectors and all of their friends, trashed a human reaper(or salvaged), and then blew up their home, is what I'm talking about. I want my warlock to be my hero. Destiny certainly gives me that feeling, but I ultimately don't feel special whenever I complete a quest. What I mean by this is, okay so you found "an archive bigger than Old Accra," okay so "this used to be linked to a Warmind," okay so "the Hive were corrupting this shard of the traveler." None of this means anything, because of the mystery Bungie shrouds their "Universe" inside of. If I knew how epic ANY of my examples were, I would have that feeling of "Yeah, that was me, NBD. *puts shades on*" I understand more light will come to "The Darkness" ... See what I did there >_< .. And I don't want to believe that Bungie is corrupted, dark, or evil by not giving us the universe RPGers thirst for simply because they can charge us for it later. They hold the power of The Flood, a super thinktank of ideas, a 10 year plan cannot crumble with that waterfall of creativity. Destiny has so many various lore story arcs already in motion, but 100 utterly random sentences only leads to 20 misfit paragraphs, which leads to a -blam!-ed up essay. I want to immerse myself in this story, I want to become invested in the actions of my Guardian, and I want to know why these actions are significant. This is my one and only rant, my only complaint about Destiny. After 500 hours and 0 sympathy to the cries of the baby with no Gjallerhorn or Icebreaker, The Only Valid Complaint. • If by "only valid complaint" you mean "My only valid complaint", then okay. However there are plenty of valid complaints made by others, outside of Destiny's story/world building not giving us anything satisfactory. That aside, yes, they did a poor job at building the in game world and left a bit too much to gimoire cards. Maybe that wouldn't have been such a big deal had they been put in the game instead.
