25 Ways Destiny Could Improve *UPDATED*

These are my immediate thoughts on how Destiny can improve moving forward. I'm not looking for trolls or criticism, just thoughts & ideas from fellow fans of the game. If you agree with anything in this post, tell me why in the comments. If not, give me your thoughts. Feel free to leave your own ideas too, as I want this to be an all-inclusive point of reference for Bungie to utilize for future game improvements. It's time players & developers get on the same page about product content, so let's keep this thread alive & share our thoughts. I will gladly reflect the most popular player requests by adding them to this list or making amends to existing entries. 1. IMPROVED REWARDS FROM RAIDS, HEROICS, NIGHTFALL. Seldom do players feel rewarded for accomplishments, even at the games highest level (I'm looking at you, Crota's End). Although updated, it still feels broken. How can hours spent in the games most difficult end-content only amount to upgrade materials? At a minimum, a shader, engram, or strange coin should be awarded for raids. As for heroics & nightfall, it seems too frequent that any good loot received is attributed to luck of the grind in a place where 99% of items usher an automatic "disassemble". In truth, most of the games top items are not actually "earned", but are obtained simply through random occurrence. This is a problem. 2. DEVELOP THE CLASS SYSTEM. The role of classes is lost on Destiny. At first glance, I assumed each class played an integral role within a fireteam. My assumption was that Titans were to tank enemy damage while Hunters focused on ranged DPS & Warlocks handled crowd control / DPS. How mistaken I was...instead, each class shares 95% of the same traits / abilities & none serve a specific function within a fireteam. Outside of the occasional revive or "supers" used for cheesing raids, classes are entirely independent of one-another & do not depend on each other to succeed. As a result, players too often get the feeling they are playing solo with other players who are also playing solo. Moreover, there is little reason for players to balance raid groups or fireteams with specified numbers of each class. Compare this to popular games that include class systems, where each class fills an integral role in team-based multiplayer. To me, Bungie had a similar idea here that never quite turned out. 3. GUILDS. With all Bungie's talk of "MMO"-style this & "Social gaming" that, it's a wonder how guilds didn't make it to Destiny. Particularly when you consider the popularity of guild-like systems in modern gaming. This would provide a convenient way for players to meet in game & play together, which could ultimately tide over talks of adding a much-needed matchmaking system for raids / heroics. If they want to really do something unique, replace the tower with a guild house of the guild you're apart of (leaving the original tower for the guild-less). This would provide real foundation for a legit MMO. Didn't you intend for players to play together on Destiny, Bungie? Yet you give us no way to do that...not even in matchmaking. 4. RAID / NIGHTFALL / HEROICS MATCHMAKING. Bungie, quit being stubborn. Yes, matchmaking might usher in a flood of noobies to raid content. Yes, they may not know the fights & will suck tremendously. At first. But that's where experienced raiders come in to help out & show inexperienced players the ropes. Whats more is that not all players happen to have 5 buddies to run raids or nightfall with. Why deprive them of the games most rewarding content? Besides, DIY matchmaking online has already become a thing. Help us bridge the gap, Bungie. 5. INCREASE GLIMMER / VAULT CAP. Another popular request from players not being met. Did anyone at Bungie really think current vault space was enough to span 3 characters? 25k glimmer? Increasing these caps would be an easy way to add depth to the game for players who strive to "have it all". 6. STRIKE PLAYLIST MAP SELECTION. Grinding is an obvious component of Destiny success. While we're grinding out the same strike maps time & time again, why not have the ability to vote on the ones we like best? 7. NO WEEKLY MARK CAP. This just provokes players to put down the game. I have no idea why weekly mark caps exist or what positives they possibly bring to the game. Enlighten me. 8. XUR A PERMANENT VENDOR. Make Xur permanent in the tower. It makes the game terribly frustrating for players who do not have the opportunity to play on weekends. This is another confusing decision on Bungie's part that has seemingly no forethought or reasoning behind it. 9. UPDATE GUARDIAN APPEARANCE AFTER CREATION, INVISIBLE HELMET OPTION. Customization is underwhelmed in Destiny. Players should be able to update their appearance after character creation. Likewise, add the option to make helmets invisible so guardians can show their face outside of the tower from time to time. Why customize your appearance just to stay covered up? Lost opportunity is why. 10. TRANSMOGRIFICATION. If you're not familiar with this, it's the ability to make an item look like another while keeping its stats. This would require you to obtain both items. This way players wouldn't mind so much getting (what would normally be useless) greens or blues. So long as they look cool you'd be able to use them for transmog to update the look of your best gear. This would provide more use for vault space & make grinding more interesting. 11. BOUNTY SHARING. Allow players to share bounties within fireteams. This would prevent from having to run back to tower to pickup bounties. 12. SHIPS AS VAULT / TROPHY ROOM. Utilize the ship as anything other than a glorified loading screen. Specifically, allow it to be accessible to players, a place where they store items (replace vault) & showcase their achievements in a sort of trophy room. Maybe even add interior / exterior upgrades for it for depth. If they could do this sort of thing on Star Wars KOTOR 10 years ago, Bungie's $500+ million budget should be able to do it now. 13. LEADERBOARDS IN TOWER. Here's a clever, functional way to take advantage of unused Tower space: add in-game global leaderboards for players to view all stats / rankings. Every other multiplayer FPS has a form of this. This would be a helpful addition for competitive players as well as the content-starved tower. 14. AMMO SYNTHESIS CREATION. Let players store extra ammo drops in a way that converts them into ammo synthesis cartridges. Maybe have a higher transfer rate of drops to fill cartridges. It kills me to see wasted ammo drops. Let players make use of these in some way. 15. GRIMORIE / REPUTATION TRACKING. Add grimorie tracking information to the menu to track how many you've collected. Also add tracking information for faction rankings. Not sure why this isn't already in the game. 16. GHOST CUSTOMIZATION. Changing its appearance, voice, color, & color of the light it emits would be a unique way to add intrigue to the game. The little thing is stuck to your hip, why not be able to make it look as good as you? Maybe let him hang out a bit without having to press SELECT? 17. SPARROW UPGRADES. How about shaders, weaponry, or other modifications for sparrows? What would stop Bungie from adding a feature that let's you upgrade the speed or durability of your sparrow with upgrade materials (like other gear items)? 18. CONSUMABLE BUFFS. I could see these working like Black Wax Idol or Ether Seeds. Instead of earning glimmer though, these would be skill-enhancing consumables that improve specific stats for a period of time. This would add great depth to raid strategy and possibly a new vendor to the Tower. 19. PLAYER-DRIVEN ECONOMY. I concede, this would take dedicated work & many, many updates to get right. The result, though, would do wonders for the games longevity as it would become massively addicting to players wanting to try their hand in an auction-house type feature. Why not start this process now? 20. CRUCIBLE UPDATE. Do something with Crucible. Anything. It's so terrible & unbalanced. It can't be taken seriously so long as shotguns reign supreme & only 4 playlists exist. 2 random vehicles and a mounted turret? It has no clue what it wants to be. Admittedly, I have no solutions. Do you? 21. IMPROVE PLANET CONTENT. As you know, planets (apart from campaign) are simply grind-fest sandboxes used predominately for bounties & material gathering. "Random" public events aren't random, not to mention repetitive, as there are only 4 types. Checkout what goes on in WoW or similar games & you'll see why planets in Destiny are dull wastes of space that don't know their own potential, rather than the interactive populated world's we imagined. 22. ENCHANTMENT. I would love to add elemental effects to gear. I could imagine this as a profession type skill to be leveled up. It would be interesting to have a "gear set" feature where bonuses would be attributed based on the number of items you have equipped of the same element. 23. PROFESSIONS. I lie. Maybe I meant professions altogether. Why not add this to let players create upgrade material, gear, or more? 24. MORE GEAR SLOTS. For example rings or necklaces? I could see this sort of thing being added one day. 25. COMPANIONS. I'm not usually for pets in games, but hear me out. Adding a companion feature could add surprising depth. For example, making them class-specific & able to provide a unique non-combat service to guardians such as highlighting upgrade materials on your mini-map, giving a slight bump in glimmer, exp, grenade / melee cooldown, etc.

  • love the ideas, replace last two with indepth story telling and everything they promised before launch. I do support your ideas and believe that they should reach bungie so that they can look over them (they wont) but there is no way that bungie will care enough to add most of this, i see no hope for destiny, but maybe bungie will realise that they -blam!-ed up and fix destiny 2. the only problem with all this is that bungie believes that theyve succeeded with the trash they have handed us. so they dont see that there is a problem with their game

  • I had my full set of raid gear 2 weeks into the DLC, isn't that rewarding enough ? You can't blame your really bad RNG on bad game loot system if you want to provide strong and good feedback for them to use you can't just base your points off of your own opinion. I disagree with a lot of everything that you said above, and that is why bungie won't care about what you said because the player community is divided on this subject, I feel like the game is currently "too generous" when it comes to handing out the raid gear/weapons but I don't come here and complain because one its my opinion and two half of the community won't agree with me. So yeah you're wasting your time.

        • so i also think u should add in there some few things. from a mission - go to tower icon auto aim - throw it in the garbage crucible - now, should be more based on accomplishments. say grimore cards 0-500, 501 - 1000, 1001-2000+ u know so its now some bs team of 3 noobs, 1 boob and 2 guys pulling the dam wagon vs 6 almost elite gamers... ya no.. stop kicking me from my inventory to look at ur bad math and show me "pop up in the tower" no i wanna look at my missions and inventory cut it out! but also it may have been mentioned already but theres exotic gear... exotic guns... that break down in to stuff.. no y dont class items give like any bonuses ( should at least be like 25 intell for something noty just o0o0 my dink piece is the best look t me) or shaders. ya i get it o0o0 colors, but should they break down in to like something? if a warlock can turn a helmet in to dust im pretty sure theres a way u can dismantle a ship and get like wepon parts or somehtng.... there are guns on a ship... that we cant even controle our selves. and ya. moving our ships like left and right on the flight in to a mission would be cool instead of every on staring and saying, o0o0 your ship is cool. i know its cool thats y i got it.. sucka now y do i have it if i cant even move it! *dismantles it and gets nothng* WTF! <lol sarcasm

        • Class specific weapons are a yes. More actual in game story elements. diversity diversity diversity. My best friend does animation and digital sculpting, and I know it's hard, but the bosses should never ever look like cut and paste of anyone else. Similar sure, but not ever just Mario-on-shrooms

          • I like every suggestion that was made here. These all sound like what an MMO should be and what destiny isn't. Destiny is Halo, only a shittier version of halo with so many restrictions and linear play it's pathetic. I was a hardcore destiny player until Crota's end came out and made my 500+ hours of gameplay pointless. Hey remember all that time you spent getting all those exotics and maxing them. Hey remember all that time spent in the Vault getting all three of your guys to lvl 30, well F U C K you cause with this expansion all those weapons are useless unless you spend pointless glimmer and time re upgrading them. Feeling accomplished that you made it to 30, well we're just gonna let people buy there way to 31 ;D Bungie doesn't give a shit about making this game any good. They just want to add to the pointless grind and the worthless rewards. I play less than an hour a week now and I couldn't give a shit less. I don't even care about the new raid cause I'll just buy my way to 33 and re up all my guns when House of wolves comes out. Thank you Bungie for wasting my time. I have a sliver of hope that one day this game might be good, but I highly doubt it. Deej will just continue to spout garbage about how the game is getting better when there is 1) no story and 2) terrible gameplay that lets you run around in circles doing the same thing over and over again. I may sound like a stick in the mud but I really really hate this game now and Bungie you're the reason why. I hope the rest of you can have fun, but like I said soon that gold sheen rubs off and you realize they gold spray painted their shit hoping it wouldn't wash out.

            • I would love to be able to assign consumable ammo packs to the d-pad. - And I'd like to view my faction progress from the character screen. -Rng loot system is okay but add the fail safe that diablo 3 has so every player feels accomplished. ( force drop of legendaries after x amount of time with that character / account. -Add set bonuses for assigning all available slots with items from the same faction. (weapon set bonus, and armor set bonus)

              •
1. IMPROVED REWARDS FROM RAIDS, HEROICS, NIGHTFALL.
Last Monday, my buds and I did the Nightfall twice. I got a sick new Dead Orbit scout rifle, that has firefly and explosive rounds (basically it is the scout rifle equivalent of the Fatebringer, just without arc damage) and a cruddy little shotgun that I instantly broke down. My other bud got an AR and a shotgun. The last guy, in both Nightfall runs, got 7 strange coins. That is 2 less coins he would have gotten from the standard weekly heroic strike. I felt so bad, because we were teasing him about his rewards from the first run, only to see him get kicked in the balls again by RNGesus...

              • This is a pretty good list. I would think that with the ability for me to see everything my player has and the vault from my destiny companion app, that it wouldn't be an issue for me to buy things from xur and it go into my vault for when I return. That would help people who can't physically play the game while xur is here. And to touch on the vault size, if they gave the option to buy more space with strange coins or notes of light (say 3 for 15 coins or motes), I would be happy with just the option.

              • I'm going to give you a few basic things I think would drastically improve re-playability which I hope to see you add to your own great list in future edits. In no particular order: ***HotKeys for consumables. The lag to get the heavy ammo synth, or BWI is killing me, literally. It could work so easy like, press the dance arrow and hold X at the same time, and heavy ammo synth is activated... ***vault access from the app. Bungie could be killing the app market like CoC does if players could stash and grab from the vault thru the app....save a ton of loading screen time too, everybody loves efficiency! ***either/or transmog or upgrade path to tower-comparable legendary stats for all items... Anyways, I'm about to eat a killer xmas dinner, so I'll edit later to add more ideas that I'm positive I'm not the first to think of

Everything you propose is very posative and I agree with it all. I dont see any negative affect on the game at all, if all or even some is implemented. However I dont belive bungie is taking any ideas that serious, I buy into the fact that they are trying to buy time and we will see most of these changes within destiny 2. Fingures are still crossed. Further more, I dont now what everyone else was expecting from destiny but I was hoping to see a successful mmo port on the consoles. I meen a real in depth game, all your ideas are a great step towards that.

                • Class-specific weapons to diversify classes more would be a good idea. Such as a sword for the Hunter, or a grenade launcher for the titan.

                    2) maybe 3) no, that is what clans are for and not everyone considers this as a mmo. 5) maybe 6) maybe 8) no, xur shouldn't be here at all. He is basically giving away exotics. He should be gone, but with exotic drop rate being a little bit higher. 14) no, I do not want to kill easy enemies as a farm for ammo synthesis All the others. Yes!

                  • I agree with most of what was said. This is turning out to not be the game I wanted.
