Cry Havoc (Dogs of War)

"They're not what we're used to seeing when we see Guardians. They're not what we're used to talking about, when we talk about Guardians. Maybe that's our own fault. Guardians aren't heroes. They're Guardians. They're protecting something, and the best way they know how. They're legends. Legends can be of fame or infamy. I don't think the Vanguard should have given this lot their crest." ************************************************************************************************************ "...called in backup, got pinned down on a patrol. Cabal. Masters of the slow advance, right? So when you think you have time to get something done and get out even though they're right across the valley, you don't. Should have tried to run when we saw them coming. Ain't too fast, but real good at keeping you right about where they want you. It's those damn chain guns on the Colossi. Whatever. I called in backup. Got an immediate response from the Vanguard, something I pretty much chalked up to sheer miracle. Said they're testing out a new way to go about things. A new unit---lance, whatever. 'course I didn't give a steamin' Ahakamara shit about their new process, I just wanted some help. So I said send whatever. And they sent whatever. Three Guardian strike team. Hunter who fought like a damn action hero, Arc sword, crazy shit. Warlock who fought like a Gunslinger oughta. A floaty ass Gunglinger. And a Titan who fought like a whole mountain. Figure that one out on your own. Mountain can't really hurt you unless you stand under it when part of it's fallin', or you try to punch the damn thing. Drop into a bunch of Cabal, they're gonna try to punch you. Ain't never seen that many Phalanx get that -blam!-ed up that quickly. Never want to again. I'm out there for adventure. Finding things, bringin' 'em back. Those boys like war. Girls. Whatever. They like them some war." ********************************************************************************************************* "She popped the chest with fusion grenade. Fried everything inside of it. Other one with her, wearing the same crest? Just laughed. She says 'whoops!' and they both pop ghosts and orbit before I could do anything about it. There could have been something good in that chest. That's all I'm saying. ...ah who am I kidding, nevermind. At least they got a laugh out of it. I'd have gotten Glimmer. Could have let me in on the joke, though." ****************************************************************************************************** "Eagle. Fault. Bishop. Doss. Fox. Ricochet. Wally. Punk. Zee. Dusk. Amyra. Kalli-19. Cold. Tek. Susanoo. Panzer. Crim. Those are the confirmed members. Not sure if that's all of them. You can usually tell because they have some nickname that nobody's going to explain, ever. Four of them share the same ghost, but I can't tell which ones. Theirs has a name though. Don't know why. People don't ask why enough these days." ****************************************************************************************************** "Bunch of assholes. Disgrace to the Vanguard crest! I was in charge of the op, they send a full strike team to help. Someone tell me why in the whole hell I needed a STRIKE team to help me do research anyway? Strike teams strike things! And they struck. They struck alright. I have every reason to believe that I could've pulled something useful form that particular Hydra. We're starting to really understand how the Vex work, we're not going to be firing blindly trying to keep ourselves from getting deleted anymore. I needed that mind core! They show up, they blow it up. Well they blow off its tail thing so it can't fly straight---did you know those contain stabalizers? NEITHER DID I---and then jump on it and just start punching the crap out of it until the turrets fall off. So I'm like 'yeah, this is great, they sure are professional and know what they're doing!' And then one of the titans, they sent two of the over-armored knuckleheads, he starts floating up above it and I realize the other two aren't trying to disable it so much as just trying to hold it down, and I realize that he's floating up there aiming, and that what was about to happen was the single most tragic Fist of Havoc in the history of research. He landed right on it. And when he'd crushed it, the Axis self destructed as they always do unless you kill them just right, and they run away screaming like this was a surprise! So I yelled at them, I yelled, I said 'hey assholes, we were supposed to recover that!' And the Titan who crushed it, he turns to me and he shouts back: "Recovery, salvage, same thing. That Hydra's not gonna recorver, my dude. So salvage it." *************************************************************************************************** "Never heard of them." *************************************************************************************************** "Not so bad. Cleared the Vault entrance for us, a bit ago. Did a bit of free terraforming while they were there, but I wasn't going to complain. New Monarchy approves of the Vanguard's newfound willingness to contract out teams to those dedicated to restoring the glory of Humankind. Oh, they'll do work for Dead Orbit too? How uncouth." ************************************************************************************************** "Our fleet won't build itself. They bring back resources. We just don't let them too close to our ships. Our fleet can't rebuild itself. Our intent is to leave and join the great beyond. But we aren't wasteful." ************************************************************************************************* "The Future War Cult's official response to the Vanguard Assault Lance is as follows: While we approve of your penchant for destruction, and wholehearted zeal for answering the Darkness' intent on wiping us all out in kind, we must provide a note of caution. The Future War Cult believes that, as our name suggests, a Future War is inevitable. It is a battle which must be fought, an ultimate and endless struggle which can only be conquered through furious violence. In the chaos, we will find our purpose if never our peace. The actions of the Vanguard Assault Lance seem to have little to no regard for this ultimate vision. We cannot be prepared for the great war tomorrow, if we destroy everything both friend and foe today. While we appreciate your extensive representation in the Crucible, we must disavow any DIRECT affiliation. We do not, and I will repeat, do not sent the Vanguard Assault Lance in to destroy, mortify, and disrespect other guardians in the Crucible or otherwise endeavors. Vangaurd is in their name. They are the Vanguard's problem. ... I've appealed to Shaxx to have them barred for the competition. He laughed. Shaxx always laughs. There is something wrong with that man." ****************************************************************************************************** "Never seen me a bar fight like that break out when no one on one side was drunk." ****************************************************************************************************** "You don't seem worried. While I have fullest confidence in your proficiency to deal with an issue..." She interrupted him. "I'll handle them. Be patient. Dusk is watching them. I know precisely where the head of this snake is, at all times. And I know the mind within its skull better than I would like to. That mind has absolutely no idea that I'm here. It cannot fight what it cannot see." "You are often overly vague, Siren. But undeniably effective. Bring them in line, whatever it takes. I do hope you are not overconfident." "You'll be surprised."
