Don't Touch My Knife - Part 2

Part 2, if you haven’t read part 1, you will need to, here is the link: http://www.bungie.net/en/Forum/Post/76270995/0/0 The sunlight of the outside world was blindingly bright. So I lifted my arm and shielded my eyes with my hand, allowing only a few tendrils of light to slip through the gaps in my fingers, it only took a few seconds for my eyes to adjust. When I lowered my hand and studied the landscape what I saw shocked me. In every direction a tangle of lush green shrubbery and strange alien plant life stretched perpetually into the distance, broken only by a smattering of bright orange pools and ancient buildings which stretched their cracked and ruined hands towards the sky. A blinding yellow sun hung low in the sky. Its intense rays reflecting and of the backs of the robotic humanoids which could be seen meandering through clearings in the dense forest, the luminous red eyes that sat in the center of their menacing heads had an almost hungry look as they gazed over the landscape. Where was I? I was certainly not on Earth I thought as I placed the carefully Warlock on the ground and clambered up onto a large rock that was peeking out from under the labyrinth of plant life. A few miles from our position a dilapidated outpost stood among a jungle of machinery. Thick masses of roots and trunks had penetrated the walls and roof, making the building almost indistinguishable from its surroundings. Perhaps there I could find out where we were, and how to get home. I clambered back down to the ground, knelled next to the Warlock and gently nudged her. I needed her to be awake for the trek to the outpost, carrying her would make us all too visible to the machines, and while although I had no reason to believe that they were hostile they still sent a chill down my spine, their single glowing red eye made my hair stand on end. Something told me that they were to be avoid at all costs. It didn't take long for the Warlock to wake from her slumber. “Wha… what happened?” She asked groggily as she sat up on her elbows. “Rhel, what is going on? The… The last thing I remember was when that Baron tele…” She cut herself of “Where the hell are we, and where is my damn helmet?” “Lilia, we were captured. By the Fallen. As for where we are, well, I’m not sure. But we can find out.” I pointed to building of in the distance, “That guardian outpost may hold some information about where we are. Come on” I picked her up of the ground, “Let’s get a move on”. Our walk to the Outpost was marked by a smattered trail of dark red blood, both our injuries making the trek strenuous and painfully, our progress was hindered greatly by the terrain, as our blood soaked boots found little purchase on the slippery roots which weaved their way in and out of the soft earth . The journey took us little over an hour to complete, and when we finally arrived things were looking hopeful, the artificial glow of a screen could be seen faintly through a grubby window next to the rusted door which was almost completely covered by a thick limb of dark brown wood. I kicked at the door until its battered frame lay buckled and broken inside the room. The interior of the building was gloomy and smelt of mould, the only light coming from the grimy windows and the flickering light of a computer screen, which sat on a rusted control panel at the back of the room. I grabbed Lilia’s forearm and helped her over the threshold. She groaned in agony, a stream of profanity gushing from her mouth as she limped into the room. We walked over the the console, the screen displayed an image similar to the metal humanoids I had seen patrolling the landscape, next to the image the word: VEX could be seen. The very name sounded menacing, and having seen the machines outside, I was worried. What were these things? I opened the computer logs, hoping to find a tendril of useful information, there where four logs in total, all with the title: VENUS: SORI. And then a date. So, we had somehow traveled all the way from earth over millions of miles, to Venus. "Venus..." I called to Lilia, "we're on Venus." I hearded a grunt from behind me, and then silence. "Lilia?" I turned slowly around, A Vex robot had its clawed metal hand around her neck, crushing the life out of her as it issued a series of strange metallic clicks and hisses. Through the mud-caked and almost blackened window I could see a mass of red lights advancing towards the door way, "Dammit" I whispered to my self. I looked quickly around the room, my eye always training back onto the Vex machine as it stood still as stone, and crushed the life and light of Lilia as she clawed hopelessly at its hand. Above me I noticed a rusted hatch, the only escape route the outpost offered. I was about to rush forward, planning to bury my knife in the robots face when it closed its grotesque fist. The sickening crunch of bone breaking was followed immediately by a explosion of blood and flesh, which turned the Vex's bland metal dark red.
