Gear and Progression: A Complete Mess?

Lets be honest Bungie, the gear and progression system is in a bit of a state right?! It appears to be a concept at odds with the players and itself since the release of the Dark Below. I imagine that some Bungie development staff are fighting quite hard at the moment to retain this concept because of a desire to see 'progression through gear' succeed even though its clear not serving the players interests at the moment. I believe it can succeed but it must, at its core, serve the entertainment of the player! Here's where I think its gone wrong and my idea to fix it... Don't make it feel like we have to go backwards to go forwards: Pre-Dark Below a lot of work has gone into levelling gear, collecting Ascendant material had been a grind, but an enjoyable grind. Resetting the Exotic level items so a player must level them up again to attain the new damage/light level caps is a negative mechanic which feels like the game is being 'dismissive' of your previous efforts. Solution: when introducing a new level cap have one of the vendors sell an 'upgrade' consumable which can be applied to any legendary or exotic weapon or armour. Applying the upgrade retains the items current progress but adds extra nodes to level in the same fashion we already do. You can make these 'upgrade' consumables as hard to obtain as you like in order to keep us playing and obviously we'd have to grind the additional level's they add until they're maxxed out. People grow attached to their gear, let them keep it!: You've made it difficult for us to obtain the best gear, that's fine, but understand that gear is as much a badge of success as it is a 'tool in the toolbox'. I'd like to take certain weapons or armour on my Destiny journey with me, I'd like to be able to make them more powerful as I become more powerful, become legend! To a certain extent your doing this with exotics but I'd like to be able to do this with any piece of equipment that suits my play style or that I've just grown fond of. The only choice then around changing gear is because 'I want too' not 'I have too' in order to progress. Solution: See consumable idea above! it really does feel the best way to keep gear relevant without feeling dismissive of the player. Thanks for listening.

 • Awesome idea, who didn't get attached to their shadow price? I loved the appearance and the perks of my Titan helmet but now can't wear it if I wish to progress
