Deej, two questions I'd like answered.
1. Why is Vault of Glass irrelevant, aside from ascendent material farming? I hate to use WoW as a reference, as it's been out for 10 years might as well barrow ideas, but every new raid requires prior raid gear to advance to the next. Vendor gear gets you to first, then the first raid, then second and so forth, so that its a process, and extends the game. Also WoW has PvP and PvE gear which can be used to join in its counterparts but and a lesser effect, two ways to get top.
2. Why do we have to restart exotics? It's cool and thank you for allowing them relevant but a complete restart? Why not pay like we do for an extra tier in the upgrade to level up, and make the 2.0 drops with the slot?

5 RepliesI'll answer for you. 1. VoG is irrelevant because there's Crota's End now. Before Crota's end was out you were able to buy legendary gear to get you in VoG. Now there is Legendary gear to get you in Crota's End. On a side note WoW uses this same concept more or less. There are easy ways to go from raid to raid without doing the previous raid. This is to help players who do not play hardcore but more casually to still enjoy all content the game offers. Destiny uses this same module. I do however agree the Vendor gear should be 30 instead of 31! Also PVP and PVE gear are 2 whole different things now. Someone in PVE gear doesn't stand a chance against a person in PVP. And PVE gear does a lot more dmg in PVE than someone in PVP gear. 2. The goal of the game is reaching 32, Killing Crota and getting all the new loot. If they add just an extra tier that adds 31 damage we would progress through the game too fast. Meaning they have to release DLC's faster and faster. This way we are busy with upgrading to become strong enough for Crota on Hard mode. Be aware that when the next DLC is out even better gear and again a new upgrade will be needed. Or maybe with so many people who are mad they removed the ability to upgrade at all and we need to grind new weapons. I don't know what would take longer to be honest.
