"Destiny's Biggest Flaw" ~ Link to Kotaku Article about the Leveling System

http://kotaku.com/destinys-biggest-flaw-1671385299 Comrades, I feel that this article sums up some of the severe problems and challenges we encounter in Destiny. A player I met recently commented to me that "this game is all about GRINDING", and I'm afraid she is correct. While it can be fun for a while, the fact that our progress in leveling is not innate to the character but to the gear we acquire - means that the hunt for acquiring and upgrading gear will never end. That's a lot of hours spent. Hmm. Well I expect to play Destiny casually for a while until Mass Effect Next, but since I can expect to be able to simply purchase leveled armor at each expansion -there's less need to kill myself grinding away. Maybe it's better not to play Destiny at all now and simply check back in that 10th year of the game. Sincerely, Major Tao

  • I agree with you a million percent. I'll being checking in maybe (and that's a BIG maybe) once a week for Tuesday coins. But this stupid grind is too much. I think actually I'll just come back in ten years ....if Destiny even makes it that far.

    • I honestly don't see the light level/gear system as being the problem. I can tell it was Joseph Statens idea too. He obviously liked an older ps3/ 360 game called El Shaddai, and that's where I think he got the idea. Just one of the many things Destiny copies. The problem is that it's rng and extremely grind based. Leveling up a character is fine, but any game that dangles the carrot like this is just exploiting players. There's no choices on how to achieve top level. Level matters twice as much in Destiny than more typical games. There's also no customization. The light level system just needs some expansion and accessibility.

    • I have been against light levels since the very beginning. This article hits the nail on the head.

    • I agree with pretty much everything in the article. The thing is - I don't mind constantly trying to acquire and upgrade gear. That's what I enjoy in games like this. The issue is Bungie are making us do it in ways that aren't fun and rewarding. They're frustrating. Everything involves waiting for the chance of getting something we probably won't want. You get a raid drop with strength, a largely useless stat. You get a pistol drop with rubbish perks. Xur is 'upgrading' your exotic item this week. Yay! But with 33int less than your current lv.30 exotic(!!!!!). WTF! You want armour with stats and perks for certain weapon types, usually shit out of luck. Customisation options - there are none. Waiting without knowing what you're going to get - there is lots.
