I wonder if Bungie will respond to straightforward polling, so I will be posting a number of simple polls. Add your comments about how you think things should be fixed and why, or why not. Do you think the story is good? Do you think there's enough to it? Are you satisfied with the way it was progressed in the dlc? Let Bungie know! Edit: Some people really like these polls and would like to see them trending. Perhaps Bungie will see them then and respond to them in some way? Maybe wishful thinking.. Anyways, I have added links to the other polls so that you can vote on all of them! After reading a lot of the lore and what was supposed to be the story i'm deeply disappointed. From the beginning sequence I felt like this game could have been a complete triumph for humanity in the sense of the rich story telling and deep immersive world that could have been. Instead after some time with it, i was honestly emotionally hurt in the sense that I felt cheated and not oblivious about how inconsistent and hacked up the game seemed. By hacked I mean chopped up, I love fps but at the same time a deep immerse story truly drives in that feeling of purpose, inspiration and accomplishment that makes the investment of money and time worth it. Something that the halo lore does well. Even after defeating the black garden the game now seems inconsistent and not unlike a soulless fps farming sim. The art work is beautiful the mechanics well made and the weapon play fun, but its difficult to know that a lot of content made by wonderful hard working creative people was deliberately cut out, lost. Hard worked for content that we may never see. The cards are really no way to tell a story the way the technology itself can, for example, the backstory of the vault of glass raid and the vex as I have read here is fascinating and its incorporation would justify and make playing the raid infinitely much better. Because you're understanding not only the impact but also the meaningfulness of your actions. something that can be elegantly set up in a separate cinematic that a single player can willfully trigger before playing the raid so you don't have to watch countless of times whenever you play, in case your peers are impatient to it. What about the warminds? Tentatively mentioned but still a backdrop overlooked. The lore is incredibly interesting but when you don't implement it well into the game you sacrifice a prolific looking work of art to appease twelve year olds and their ADD tendencies for sales and quick profits. That does not help the industry. Humans are inherently curious, and even if there are people out there who'll skip all the cut scenes there will always be those impressionable young minds who will see the amount of work put into this and who are filled with wonder not only for the STEM fields that can advance our own current technology but for the universe and the possibilities for their lives as well. I'm 25 years old and playing games like starfox and metal gear as a kid filled me with this wonderful sense of purpose for the world. I honestly expected Destiny to bring me back to those roots teaching me along the way concepts of physics and philosophy and an appreciation for deep history and art. With this in mind I honestly I feel that Bungie and Activision had a golden opportunity in their hands. Not only monetarily but altruistically as well, getting kids interested in a range of fields of study while engaging them in deep and meaningful ways was something worth preserving and not something worth sacrificing for quick sales, cheap thrills and pretty graphics in order to reach a wider audience. Imo Game making is honestly a cooperative form of art making and while its practical to make a fun and mindlessly quick profitable distraction, sometimes making the most pragmatic decision means thinking about the overall impact of your choices, because although it may not seem like a very apparent issue, in cases like these with a game of a supposed lifetime of 10 years, these excecutive decisions can affect important aspects of history, culture and society. Specially with a generation growing up alongside and being influenced by big title games like these. With that said. I believe that call of duty sales do not justify some of the choices made. Specially for a company with such a great story record as bungie. Maybe activision had a hand on it or maybe not. I dont know. Ultimately It might have just been a series of truly unfortunate events. I don't know if this will be read by anyone up top but with all due respect to everyone who worked tirelessly on a project they wholeheartedly believed in. I hope that we agree in that had the game been delivered as promised it would have spoken for itself. It might have sold even more. It might have become a complete and timeless epic worth mentioning.

    • I'm happy with the story because it allowed me to make my own story. Abrotus, a spunky young awoken Titan with an upcoming ska punk band take on the world as try try and revive the nineties. Unfortunately the vex took the saying a little too seriously and have planned to literally revert time and space back to the 1990's Fearing for their lives and the remaining lives of the non hostile inhabitants. The speaker sent the group to fend off the vex. Victory was achieved after defeating the final boss. An entity so dark and vile that we could only name it by one name that could ever notion the capability to present the true darkness this being was. "Rush Limbaugh" Eventually the traveler began it's healing process with a totally sick brass section in it's favorite mixtapes, courtesy of the speaker. BUT WAIT! . Eris appears! An avid rock rap listener had barely escape the horrors of the hive, zealous fans of power ballads. Beating a dead horse, the hive are attempting to force glam rock and power ballads back into popularity. Eris has asked us, the heroes of ska punk, the expel the no longer loved genre of enemies back Ito the darkness of the past. Will the band ever stop these oldies? The answer may come soon. (Because I haven't even attempted crota's end lmao I am garbage)

    • I used to write off the game's lack of story as an attempt at a "make your own adventure" video game, and let it go. However the DLC got me really hopeful, especially when I got to the Rasputin mission. Yet again however, no development. I don't even care if the game had just a basic sitcom level of plot, but it's starting to eat at me that there's no character development at all. We freed Rasputin to reconnect with the lost colonies, then we saved it from the Hive's attempted intrusion, and it made absolutely no difference in our world. Pretty lame, but I guess I should expect nothing else at this point.

          • There is no story. Not really. There are snippets of a story that we are both railroaded through (which is most games) but that is also supposed to be filled in by our imagination (srsly?!). A true story has a beginning, introduces both the Protagonist and Antagonist clearly, introduces conflict, forces hard decisions (at least the illusion) on the Protagonist, allows the Protagonist growth, pushes a final confrontation, and has an ending that often concludes the story (although good ones leave open endings somewhat IMO) and feels satisfying to the person who experienced it. This game has a beginning, but does not introduce a Protagonist in the truest sense because we don't know who the f*ck we are. We are shown several Antagonist's, but who, what, and why are largely ignored. Conflict, obvious. Hard decisions? None - the decisions are made for us, or simply don't exist - there is one path. Allows growth? I suppose, within the confines of the system. Pushes a final confrontation? Yes, albeit the first two phases of the game have little to nothing to do with the final two phases - that is called a broken chapter, because it is not contributing to the overall story. We are shown another Antagonist in the Black Heart, but again we know little to nothing about it other than "bad=shoot". Once it is defeated, there is little satisfaction from a story standpoint. A small cutscene indicates our allies may be celebrating but our character sure as hell doesn't seem overjoyed. And the way the Stranger delivers her final lines, made me personally feel like what I did didn't matter truly because more and more bad crap was going to continue to happen. Sorry, this has been a bit of a rant - the point really is, there feels as though a story is in there somewhere it's just not being allowed to come out.

            • I've worked on big projects. Like, converting an entire company's core computer system. Stuff like that. Destiny's campaign has "this is what we could actually get done in the time we had left with what we had" written all over it. And then I saw the Halo free doc, and that's exactly how they described Halo 2.

            • The story is indeed lacking, however the lore is very vast and interesting perhaps even more so than Halo's (but that's just my opinion).

            • The story seems to be intentionally weak. I keep getting the feeling I'm supposed to be writing a fanfiction, and the whole community needs to just come together and build these stories ourselves.

            • I enjoy the story for the fact that there is so much to it especially through the grimoir cards. The story telling reminds me a lot of dark souls. HOWEVER I still chose no because they have a very poor way of going about telling you the story in the universe. Overall I just wanna see more lore it feels like they're holding back so much information from us

            • I voted yes because I literally do not care about story in video games, I want fast paced killing all the time, I would skip all cutscenes first time through if I could and in games that allow it I do

              • Anyone who says yes has never played a good RPG or game with a good story line. Go play Bioshock, Mass Effect, Dragon Age etc. Don't get me wrong, Destinys game play is excellent but the story is very lacking. I shouldn't have to read 100+ grimoire cards to get some semblance of a story. Id read a book if that is what I was looking for.

                • Incredibly weak, I was expecting huge amounts of missions involving the progression of the guardians, way more in the way of doing bounties and collecting items for quests with the different vendors and npcs, all in all destiny devs seem to think that allowing us to roam around a small area and do bounties and public makes up for the lack of effort and unique dialogue they could come up with. I have a feeling destiny 2 is gonna be much much much bigger and more immersive, they cant release this game again and expect it to do well, theyve already cost themselves a lot of customers down the line. Not everyone is like me and enjoys grinding for rewards rather than hoping luck steps up to the plate, so I can understand why people are up in arms.

Yes. This game is like Diablo 3. The great gameplay makes up for the lackluster story. So i was happy with the story. However i did want to kill the Queen's brother IN THE FACE

                    • Make me care about the characters. Who is this and why should I care about them? Why is there a new chick? What about these guys who are already here? Honestly, if Bungie were to remove ANY characters from the game right now, I wouldn't give a shit. I'd just be annoyed that I'd have to find someone new to trade stuff with if it was a vendor character.

                    • My main gripe about story is the lack of memorable characters, and the bland enemies are introduced. When you first went to the tower, i thought i was gonna be introduced to a cast of charismatic, like-able, or un-like-able characters introduced with a conversation, instead we simply walk up to them open a menu and pass in a quest. Well that was a blow to my enjoyment of the game. Ghost the character in the game with the most dialogue, is boring, he has no identity, why doesnt he have a name or a nickname, does his name have to be ghost. the speaker is vague about everything and barely helps the story. your character is a blank slate with about as much emotion as a wall( another problem with the game, no emotion). the enemies are introduced far too rapidly for me to really enjoy any of them to the fullest(im talking about ingame stuff not the Grimoire), the game would have been suerved better with 1 main clear enemy instead of 4 rapidly introduced underdeveloped wrecks.

                    • People don't pay attention to the story, and don't even bother with Grimoire. Everybody wants to be fed with a spoon full of a story. This is the first game of a new series. There is bound to be an incomplete story. We have destroyed the Black Garden, and the Traveler has begun to heal. The rest is up to Grimoire. And destiny 2. Maybe House of Wolves.
