I have seen many posts about people complaining that the Crota raid is to hard. The raid is challenging (as it should be) but ultimately only requires communication. Let us know if you have beaten it or not and on what system so we can see what everyone has achieved thus far. *Edit Tips for beating Crota from my personal experience Fire-Team Weapons 2-3 Gjallarhorn's 2 Ice breaker's Sword Holder- Doesn't matter but I use the Vex Strategy - Note that this is not a speed run but anyone should be able to beat it with this method 1. Stay on the left stairs for first 2 sword bearer runs. Have 1-2 people focus on the knights. Kill the sword bearer and jump to the left rock. Have the people with the Gjallarhorn's bring down Crota's shield. The sword holder must time the jump up to Crota so that when he starts to kneel you are immediately hitting him with the sword. You must bring Crota's shield down twice each time you have the sword) 2. Drop down to the middle room at the bottom and kill the orgres. 3. Wait for Crota to go back to the middle platform and run back to the left Stairs. (Watch for exploding thralls and immediately kill the knights up top) 4. Complete steps 1-2 again (You should be able to beat him the 4th time you pick up the sword). 5. If he is not dead yet drop back down to bottom room and immediately kill the ogres. His "Enrage will be near" and you must kill the sword bearer as fast as possible. Bring Crota down and defeat him. This is your last chance before he is "Enraged" and it becomes pretty much impossible 6. Enjoy you rewards :) *Edit If you have any other tips please add them. Big thanks to everyone who has posted some thus far. If anyone is willing to help others who have not beaten it yet post you GT/PSN name. I'm more than willing to help out anyone on the X360 who is stuck. GT is same as the post.

  • Truthfully I'd say use rockets that have the early detonation based on proximity to target or a HMG with field scout. As for sniper alternatives, I'd go with anything that has field scout, quick reload, Final Round, etc.

  • yes this is how we found it most efficient we had 3 titans 1 hunter which made it simple we went out put 4ppl on the ledge staggered the boomers so it couldn't hurt our sword holder we had 1 titan giving a bubble to our sword bearer giving him ability to special crota/heal/and after first sword we went left and let crota go back to middle repeated same step after 2 swords we went to middle had bubbles on left and right side so boomers wouldn't cause us problems and ghorned the org's afap and killed the sword beared staggered boomers downed crota twice

    • You can usually tell in the beginning whether your team is going to suck or not just by talking to them, if they seem like dickheads I just back out :P

    • I finally beat him last night, and it was with a team of randoms. If you have a team that communicates well and gets the timing down, you'll beat him no problem. Although we almost had enrage pop, we were like a minute away from it when we killed him lol.

      • Hell yeah. Communication was KEY. We would let the fireteam leader know exactly when we were going to shoot down Crota's shield. Tell him as soon as he's going to his knees so that he would hit the quit button. Then he would ask...did it work? We would reply with a yes and then send him an invite. In the sword bridge part...communication was very instrumental. Letting people know when to jump off the edge and the warlock when to self res. Then telling them where the ogres were. :) lol just kidding. But doing it legit does take team work and good communication. Which makes it cool but also so frustrating at times. But much more rewarding.

        • I've beaten it a few times with my clan and some members of a few others. I'd recommend the following general weapon sets for each phase. First section- Following the light. WEAPONS MIDA Multi-tool- This weapon is best used here if you have it as it increases your movement speed by more than any other weapon in the game. It lets you outrun thralls with ease even if you don't have a max agility build. It also has high stagger which lets you shoot enemies and stop them from respawning anywhere you can't see them. Useful if you'd rather keep track of enemies instead of being extra cautious. Found Verdict (Or a similar high ammo fast firing shotgun)- This will be used if your camo runs out and you need to quickly kill a group of enemies who are in your face. Usually when sitting at a light and removing your burden. Corrective Measure (or a similar high ammo MG)- This comes in handy on the bridge if you find yourself unable to go invisible and there are enemies storming you as thralls always rush headfirst into death. Easiest to do with a bladedancer by far. Using all the perks for invisibility except for Vanish which will use Showstopper instead. Use high strength and intellect armor if you have it. Equip Arcbolt grenades as well. As you go from light to light you don't need to let your burden reset to none before moving on. A burden of 2 will allow you to always reach the next light and it'll usually go down one more number as you leave the light. You can run through the entire phase (I did it solo.) light bridge included. After following all the lights and standing on the bridge activation crouch down and go invis. Try and alternate between going invis and left side, and then right side. (when facing away from the bridge) left side seems safer as the ogre spawns on right first. When you stealth runs out you should be on one of the far sides either hidden from most enemies or able to use Escape Artist to go invis again. Upon doing that the enemies will come to the side they just saw you on and you just alternate. Repeat until the bridge is up. If you get surrounded use arc blade and showstopper to thin the herd until your cooldowns are done. Second section- Cross the bridge, storm the gate. WEAPONS Scout Rifle/Handcannon- Vision of Confluence or Fatebringer. (Or a similarly high impact Scout rifle or handcannon) Preferably with Firefly perk. This will be your main weapon for killing the hordes of enemies before they get close to you. Icebreaker/Supremacy- (or similarly high impact Sniper rifle.) Having a sniper here will help you to kill the Swordbearer without risking any casualties. Headshots will cause him to stagger and be stunlocked until death if you pace your shots. Gjallarhorn/Corrective Measure (or a powerful rocket launcher) This will come in handy after crossing the bridge. In which enemies will swarm you and you will have to kill two Hallowed Ogres. If using CM you can also help to kill swordbearers while Gjallarhorn is better off not wasted. Assuming everyone is level 30, split up into groups of 2. 2 people on each totem, and 2 in the middle holding the bridge up. [WORD OF SAFETY- the totems will deactivate if there is no one on the bridge control.] Take out the enemies and make sure that the bridge is fully formed BEFORE killing the swordbearer, as each kill will spawn a gatekeeper on the other side. When the bearer spawns make sure the one of the middle people grabs the sword and heads across. (The middle has less aggro and can be held alone.) For people crossing the bridge the gatekeeper is most easily taken down by spamming the ground smash attack as it stuns him. 4 or 5 smashes and that kills one. Afterwards, head to one of the totem spots and kill enemies while you wait for your teammates. The 2nd person to cross should come from the right side (facing the bridge) as the right side is easier than left to hold. Once you have 3 players across the bridge the totems at the bottom will stop activating and the top players will need to activate the bridge and hold it while those below still kill sword bearers and cross. Once everyone crosses the ogres will spawn. Killing them will complete the phase. Third phase- Run the gauntlet Pretty straightforward. I wouldn't recommend any weapon changes from the above setups. Either of the two work really well here. Kill the thralls and make sure the shriekers are at least two members' top priorities as you can't run past them due to unseen barriers that they create. Once you've killed them all you can run past the enemies and drop into the pit in the next room. Fourth phase- Creeping Death WEAPONS Solar primary (Confluence or Mythoclast)- the priority targets here have solar shields. Icebreaker (or a solar sniper rifle)- fusions take too long to charge and will likely result in a death in this area. Also range is a factor. Gjallarhorn/Hezen Vengeance (or solar rocket launcher with homing or proximity detonation)- this will come in handy near the end of this section where you have to kill the shrieker and then the deathsinger. Here you'll want to split into teams of 3. Each takes a side either left or right. Avoid the knights at the start. Run up the stairs to the sides and into the room. When the wizard starts to come out retreat and you'll see a room opposite the stairs that you can jump into. Once in there use your snipers to take out the wizards. When the wizards are dead, a shrieker will spawn in the room that they came from. Send someone to rush in there and use rockets on the shriekers. Whichever side destroys their shrieker first will then go and help the other half of the fireteam with their side. When both shriekers are dead whoever has a Gjallarhorn should rush into the middle and kill the Deathsinger. I found that constantly double jumping stops the knights from killing you with their swords. At least two people should NOT go in in case things go badly. Those people will rush in if the 30 second countdown begins to ensure that the deathsinger is killed. Once it is dead you will have to kill the remaining enemies (focus on anything with yellow health) and everyone gathers near the crystal in the middle. Phase 5- Crota's End Recommending the same weapons used above. Armor should be setup to where picking up Orbs of light heals you. Hunters should have Golden Gun, titans can use Ward of dawn, and warlocks will use radiance and spam firebolt grenades on mobs. This basically keeps the team healed and lets the swordbearer focus on holding the chalice at all times. High intellect is also useful. Crota has a lot of strategies and many people find that they don't work for all teams. In this phase there's a lot to focus on. Each teammate will need a job more or less. At the start the barriers break and you need to clear out the enemies in the halls. Afterwards everyone should regroup on a side of their choosing. (Right facing Crota) seems to be easiest. One person will rush down middle to grab the chalice and return to the group, letting whoever needs to heal take it from them. At least one person needs to have Icebreaker and be focused on the Knights who spawn in the window with Hive boomers. One other person will be watching crota while also killing thralls and the other 4 will focus on killing the swordbearer. Once down, someone has to grab the sword and the entire team (NOT the one guy watching boomers though) will wait for the bearer to get into position before firing on Crota. If you rush it, they should fire as soon as the bearer reaches the top of the stairs. (teams with Gjallarhorn can take his shield down almost instantly so be careful not to use it too soon.) The closer the bearer when he goes down the better. Depending on distance you have time to attack him 3- 6 times (also depends on your attacks) Some people play it safe and use only ground smashes which can get 4 hits in before his shields are up. I prefer to use the Slash/Smash repeat which gets up to 6 hits and maximizes damage output. However, it's risky and involves having to make a hasty jumping retreat with air slashes to survive. When Crota stands back up his shields will be a yellow flame which means he's immune to damage. As soon as that goes green, the team fires away again to take him down as soon as possible. If everything goes right you can hit him another 4- 6 times. Afterwards regroup and switch to the opposite side, as Crota will start running toward your side. After the second sword is used there will be a phase where Ogres and thralls come in waves. Have at least one person focusing on the exploders and the other keeps on hive boomer duty. The other 4 players need to kill the ogres quickly (this can be done from on the stairs with snipers and primary ammo. After the ogres are dead the swordbearer will spawn and the above strategy applies. However, you may need to swap sides if Crota is coming your direction. [DEALING WITH THE OVERSOUL] The oversoul only spawns if someone dies. When that happens, everyone needs to shoot at it and destroy it asap. Only the person on Boomer duty should be paying it no attention. (unless he just killed boomers) Snipers and MGs are best for taking it down. That's basically it for Crota. He'll enrage around 5 swords I think. Which is pretty much game. However, if you can get high enough damage it won't be a problem. Also, a level 31 swordbearer is a must to make this easier. If you know a 31, they need to train with it.

Communication over the chalice is key. When my team beat it, we usually exchanged chalices either when we were killing the sword bearer, or when we were in the room behind the titan bubble waiting to kill the ogres. Always make sure the sword bearer has the chalice when he goes up to kill crota, or you will usually have to wipe. We had one person with icebreaker kill the boomers in the tower, while 4 people with Gjallahorn took out his shield (All fully upgraded, took one shot each for his shield to go down). We made sure we spawned orbs and a bubble with weapons of light for our sword bearer so that he would do max dps on crota by popping a super. Also, when you are taking out his shield, go above the middle room, that way the boomers cant kill you while you are lining up your shots. The person with icebreaker should stay there and keep killing them, because his dps doesnt affect the actual crota fight.

          • I spent 4 hours on Sunday trying to complete it and didn't not to mention the other previous 3 or 4 days I played. Last night we finally beat him. Got emblem, shader, Radiant Shards and the Crota Rocket Launcher...not too impressive of a RL. the strategy for us that worked was I stayed on the upper left with an Ice Breaker to take out the 2 knights that spawn and then the 3rd that has the sword that jumps onto the platform near Crota. Everyone else went to the middle room where you come out of. They would try and lure the Sword Bearer towards them, the player with the sword would go to the rock platform on the left while everyone but me took down his shield, we timed it so that most of the time we got 3 sword strikes on Crota. When the Ogres cam out, first I stayed on the top in the middle room with glass so the Ogres would move closer to the middle, we found that wouldn't always work with all the thrall, so I started to go into the lower middle room with everyone else and after the Ogres, use the Chalice if needed and then run back to the left platform and take out knights. It took us a few tries, but we finally did it, like our 6th time. I think there are few ways to complete the strike which is pretty cool and not one way has been found to be the best yet, to my knowledge. This time we did have 4 31's and the player with sword as I think all of us know has to be a 31. We plan to run the raid at least 3 times this week, if anyone woul dlike to join, feel free to message me, I'm also looking forward to see other strategies, we tried the one that the OP stated, but that didn't work so great for us, maybe it was the randoms in the group. We usually have 3-5 regulars that run both raids a few times a week, we started an adult clan (age doesn't matter but we do use adult language so you cannot be offended) so we could get a regular raid group(s) going. It started as a joke so excuse the name, It's Vances Regime, if you're interested, excuse the motto again it started as a joke, we are open minded, will listen to anyone and would like to find fun, experienced players who would like to run either raid a few times a week. If you're interested apply (all memberships must be approved) or come join us sometime and see if you trhin kyou would be a good fit. Right now we are only on PS4, we only have 3 members, again it started as a joke, but now we want to expand and take on the challenges of Destiny, get better and help others get better as well. Drop us a line sometime Thanks guys, sorry for the shameless plug

            • When sword holder is on that rock i pop a weapons of light bubble on it before he getd to it. The extra damage helps alot. Also we have another titan pop a bubble on stair case so we get a damage boost to take down sword bearer faster. The key is speed and perfect timing to beat crota.

              • We got him last night using the warlock cheese but realized the enrage timer starts as soon as the crystal room wall barriers drop, so we were wasting time. To make up for it you have to go to right side stairs as soon as both ogres go down. Same strat from there. Got whole swag of loot from my first CE raid. • We were trying to do it by ourselves without the help of the interwebs... We wasted sooo much time not going down below for the ogre waves... which was our only real mistake. Even doing that we still almost killed him before he enraged(like one light attack away:( ) We were pretty happy with our results, just need to implement the change for ogres.

                  • The only problem with staying left is the swordbearer sometimes won't run over there and you can't kill him before crota moves right. My group keeps 2 snipers up top and rest in the middle, swordbearer comes right to you. Also, Crota is very difficult if your team is inexperienced or not very good, timing is everything.

                    • Your fire team should be able to beat Crota with everyone at the bottom mid. You do not need to leave a fellow Guardian up top to snipe the knights. I won't give our tactics away, but tried the left side stairs for several hours and got close. I know a few that have beaten it with that tactic, but bottom mid is my fire team's preference. Good luck figuring out a method to defeat Crota. It isn't easy, but definitely possible with communication and planning.
