Honestly, mechanically, what was harder on normal?

vault of glass

204

crotas end

158

I honestly feel the VoG was much harder to figure out how it worked. Crotas end is harder now because they introduced artificial difficulty, 32s on a level 30 strike, really? That's basically saying you weren't creative enough to implement challenging ideas that didn't rely on much higher output by enemies. I do love both, don't get me wrong.

Sadly, there's only three real puzzles in Crota's End: the lanterns, the bridge, and Crota himself. (Deathsinger doesn't count.) Most of the progressing is done just by bullying your way through mobs. The Vault of Glass had the sync plates, the Oracles, the Templar, the Gorgons, the Gatekeeper, and Atheon, each with their own unique mechanics where you had to actually think about what you were doing and being wreckless would get you killed. Then again, it makes sense that the Vex, who are robots, would have more a more complex and intricate raid as opposed to the Hive, who are brutal, necrotic, medieval aliens, to have a more... simple, straightforward kind of thing going on. Hopefully the Fallen don't disappoint. After all, they're advanced enough to have machines fight alongside them (Walkers, Shanks, Servitors), so they should have some tricks up their sleeve when House of Wolves drops.

  • It kind of feels like they've made Crota's End as basic mechanically as possible to try and avoid the glitches, in which it seems to of made the raid rather short IMO

  • We are at crota right now and I'll say just from reading things off this forum and nobody beig through it before that the first 2 parts were fairly easy. The end part was kind of a bitch to get to crota but overall I feel that this is much easier.

  • I went with Crotas End. I believe teamwork is a mechanic which underpinns it's very success. The ridiculousness requires you to have an impecible team, all of which are on point throughout. I enjoyed VOG more, however this wasn't your question.

  • vault was harder than crota's end, Crota was harder to kill than atheon. I mean, assuming atheon didn't glitch and force you to wipe. even without the glitches atheon was harder to beat before we had it down to a well oiled machine-like science.

Crota's End. Stun Crota one second early? Wipe. Stun Crota one second late? Wipe. Swordbearer hiding? Wipe after enrage. Not staring at the knight towers for one second? Wipe after they one shot someone. Messing up one sword phase? Wipe because you can no longer kill Crota before the enrage. Crota moved away from the center? Wipe because now you can no longer efficiently reach him and deal enough damage with the sword carrier. There is a line between hard and ridiculous Bungie have crossed it by a mile. I enjoyed the Abyss and bridge far more than VoG but the Deathsinger and Crota are -blam!-ing stupid. All of the my friends that beat it say that their group all had Gjallahorns which if that's a requirement then it's bullshit.

crota's end as you say is just sheer numbers and stupidly high leveled mobs VOG was a lot more true puzzles in it which made it rather difficult. the hardest part of Crota's end (not counting crota of course) has been getting past the bridge properly and finding the chests since they all seem to be on timers. I feel Crotas end is stretched out to make people grind more for their gear (minimal shards & energy) forcing the new raid to last right up until the next DlC

    • So far Crota's End feels like a strike with puzzles. Vault of Glass was truly a mind twister and figuring everything out one are at a time was a blast.

    • Crotas end can be soloed by a warlock. I'm doing a death singer/crota solo run atm. Deathsinger is at half health now when I die and I think I'll do it this week. I already know how I'll beat crota. A warlock can solo the first part easily and at the totems he just die, self res and snipe ogre.

I enjoyed VOG more. The adventure. Lots of laughs. Very interesting. Crotas End is extremely challenging, verging ridiculous. I've seen some of the best clans i personally know, fail / struggle with this continously. I managed it EVENTUALLY and it was probably one of the most satisfying bit of gaming ive ever played. Crotas End requires an impecible team, and is NOT possible without one. Still, i prefer VOG.

        • Jeez, I agree VoG was harder, but VoG was a level 26 raid on normal and at the final boss, enemies were level 28. Everyone's like "arrgh, 32's on a level 30 strike what the ****" it was in the vault of glass and it's in Crota's end. That aside, I haven't done Crota's end. However from what I've seen (raid start to finish) VoG looks much more mechanically interesting and difficult than Crota's End. :)
