Lore Question: Crota/Oryx

So I love reading posts on the lore and guesses people have regarding the background of Destiny. My question is, this expansion is based on Crota, who is the son of Oryx. In first version of Destiny we killed the Vex God, and then Atheon as the worst trouble the Vex could create. If this entire expansion is based around Crota, do we know anything about Oryx? I would have thought he'd play more of a role. I literally know nothing about Oryx, has anyone had thoughts or found information relating to him? Thanks!

Now.... we know. The Taken King is coming out in September and the whole expansion is based around around Oryx. It's basically a Dark Below 2 but way way bigger. Oryx is a huge Knight, with a face like a hammerhead shark and wings. He has 10X the amount of health as Pre-Nerf Valus had AND rumour has it he can only be damaged by Crota weapons. There are three new subclasses:- Warlocks have a Arc Storm, Hunters have a Void Bow, Titans have a flaming hammer. The main story line for TTK is = Oryx is pissed at the death of his son. He wants revenge. He has a HUGE army and has a lot of Fallen, Cabal and Vex under his command. There will be a new raid, in which you have to kill him in his ship, which makes a fallen ketch look tiny. His ship is called the Dreadnought! I don't know how many people can be in the fireteam (probably 8 or 9 now) but in the trailer they showed only THREE, which does scare me a bit. Anyways, hope this information helped!

"I know the feeling," the Prince said dryly. The Queen kept her expression carefully distant. She sat reclined in her throne, legs crossed, surveying the two figures at the base of the steps. Beside her, where the Wolves' Guard used to stand, Techeuns Shuro and Sedia hovered instead, their jewel-like augments gently humming. To her right and just before stood the Prince, facing forward but his body half-turned back toward her. "Your Grace," said the man before her at the foot of the stairs. His voice was soft but strong. When he spoke the Hunter started to turn her head toward him, then flinched as if someone had shone a bright light into her eyes. "Thank you for your gracious welcome," he said. The Queen inclined her head slightly. "Before we begin," spoke out the Hunter. "I will say this." She paused, her head tilted up to the throne. The Queen waved her hand in assent. The Hunter's pale lips tightened slightly, then resumed their usual stony mien. "Your Grace," she said. Shuro and Sedia shifted, a sudden rustling and whispering. The Queen raised one finger to silence them. Uldren's eyes narrowed, but he said nothing. "I am not here for you." The Queen stared at the Hunter, her expression studiously unchanged. "I have no wish to play politics. I have no grievance with the City, not anymore. I have no grand hopes to end the war, for long have I known I will not see its end. I am here for one battle, and one alone, because it is a battle we must all fight, together or separately. So I will warn the defenders, together or separately. I will do anything—" her low voice shook with passion— "to end Oryx." A silence rang out in the room. The Hunter kept her head raised, her ambiguous gaze directed at the shadows in the throne where the Queen reclined. Then a small smile curved the Queen's lips. "Well said." She straightened, and leaned slightly forward so the room's light fell on her face. "So let us end him."
• Considering the fact that the large Comet expansion, Plague of Darkness, that we're due to see later this year seems to be also focusing on the Hive, I'm sure we'll get more information on Oryx at that time, although I doubt he'll be the main focus of the expansion. While these theories that connect the Traveler and Oryx are extremely well thought-out and logical (well done, everyone), I can't help but think that Oryx really is just a very strong Hive entity that they treat as a god. I can't see him having anything to do with the Traveler on the level that many people are suggesting. My personal opinion is that we probably won't be interacting with Oryx himself until at least Destiny 2, maybe later. Being the pinnacle of the Hive's religion or society, I imagine there are other powerful "gods" that server under him that we'll see first. Just my personal thoughts.

        • (Claps hands together) Alright, now this is a long shot but I think I figured it out. The Shrine of Oryx was a big round evil ball thing. Shrines are typically made in the image of their god. If you listen to all the interesting things that Xur says while people interact with him, you will hear, "The Traveler has a dark mirror." I believe that Oryx is the Travelers evil brother. Oryx brought the Hive into a golden age of technology and sent sent them on a campaign to conquer the universe.

          • Well there was that temple on the moon that was communing with some sort of Hive God. I suspect that was Oryx. It would make sense that we see the Hive attempt to revive Crota. By destroying the device communing with their God, we upset their plans. The hive attempted to revive Crota in an attempt to restore their strength and pave the way for Oryx to come to Earth. If that were successful, we'd have a much bigger problem. That's been my theory anyway.
