Hi Bane713, You may need to refresh your achievements list in order to be awarded the achievement. Try signing out of your XBL account, starting the game, and singing back in when prompted to do so. Alternatively, you may wish to try signing into Destiny, logging in to your character, signing out of your profile (pause menu > Settings > Change Profile), then hitting start at the launch screen when prompted. Finally, if all else fails, you may simply have to wait. I hope you're able to resolve your issue!
