Recently, Update 1.1 went live for Destiny and altered many Exotic weapons. This post is intended to provide proper insight towards the recent Pocket Infinity bug.
After reading the patch notes earlier today, I was looking forward to using the Pocket Infinity in hope that the increased magazine capacity (now at 5) would somewhat resemble its original glory. While running through the daily heroic, I noticed a sever inconsistency with many aspects of the weapon, particularly the charge rate. I continued using it in an attempt to identify a pattern in the weapon's unusual behaviour.
Let's review how the Pocket Infinity worked before Update 1.1, shall we?
- holding the trigger would initiate the charging sequence, which was much longer on the PI than other fusion rifles
- the first shot in a burst would deal moderate impact and range, with the ability to one-shot in PVP at close range
- if the trigger was not released, all remaining shots in the magazine would fire consecutively with negligible charge time
- to compensate for the automatic firing ability, all consecutive shots had drastically reduced impact and range, coupled with tremendous recoil
- if the weapon was reloaded or if the trigger was released at any time, the firing sequence would reset; all steps listed above would start again from the beginning
Now let's compare that to how the Pocket Infinity works after Update 1.1:
- after spawning/respawning, holding the trigger will initiate the typical lengthy charge sequence, with the first shot dealing more damage
- however, any rounds fired after the initial shot will fire in automatic mode at the reduced damage regardless of the weapon being reloaded or the trigger being released
- there are only two ways to reset the firing sequence, either by dying and respawning, or by switching to another special weapon in your inventory and switching back to the PI
I've linked a YouTube video to help display how the Pocket Infinity works after the update. I did not upload/create this video, all credit goes to the uploader. In the video, you can see how the weapon only fires regularly immediately after respawning. When the player fires again at any time during that same life, the weapon shoots permanently in automatic mode with reduced impact and increased recoil.
Perhaps something went wrong when tweaking this weapon, as I'm led to believe that this is an unintentional bug rather than an intended occurrence. The Pocket Infinity was great fun even with a 3-round magazine. However, the permanent automatic mode/reduced damage/increased recoil makes the weapon nearly unusable. In its current state, the Pocket Infinity is outclassed by practically every other fusion rifle above rare quality.
Update:
Thank you all for your continued support and positive feedback of this post. Bungie is aware of this issue and is investigating a fix.

I am creating a shortcut to this thread, and im going to bump this thread until the PI is returned to its former glory!!!

This was such a waste of a weapon. Without 8 in the clip the auto-fire shots that miss have the smallest chance to return to your magazine. It's even less should you actually hit your target. Now it's the weakest fusion rifle eve! It leaves you there like a sitting duck waiting to reload. Very disappointed. They should change it back. And what is all that bs about switching weapons to gain a damage boost for one shot. Weak Just super-f*cking-weak dude They shouldn't have changed anything

Edited by Solospartan37: 12/4/2014 2:51:47 PMI'm not going to complain about it getting nerfed multiple times over, even when it gets buffed again. That being said I don't think they should have touched any of the weapons, including mytho since there were plenty of ways to beat it 1 v 1. But I'm also fairly tired of hearing people charge fusion rifles constantly from behind cover or corners and then one shotting at any range. FRs don't need a nerf but they do need to implement a different firing system. For example if you tap the charge button the gun auto charges and fires and you can't stop the process. Granted people could still time it to pop out from behind cover right as the gun fires but hey what are ya gonna do. Or just have hardcore game modes without a radar I would definitely be down for that. Here's hoping they fix the issues with all of the guns since people should be able to use whatever gun they want and adjust strategies accordingly. But at the end of the day just use plan c if you really need to only use a fusion rifle and not ever switch to any other weapon in PvP.

Without this I suck in the crucible. I'm seriously Pissed at bungie. Seems like shit goes wrong all the time with them and it's pissing me off. Can't wait till witcher 3 comes out
-
Its the recoil on this weapon, its worse than a non-modded heavy machine gun, after the first shot it fires straight up into the air
-
Bungie really -blam!-ed this gun

Thank god I'm not the only one. This game is dead to me now, pocket was my go to for every situation. Please fix this...
-
Come on, the pocket was the only real chance I had against shotgunners, bladedancers, shoulder chargers, last worders, etc. This has ruined pvp for me and I know I'm not alone. Fix it please.

I love this gun! At least I loved this gun before this bug. When the glitch happens, in PVP, i shot 4 fusion shot on another player and only took half of his health. At first, I thought that I was missing the whole time pvp for 3 hours and finally noticed the bug and its dramatic damaged reduction. Before 1.1, the pocket infinity would only require 1 or 2 on target accuracy to take down opponents.

"buffed" to uselessness... I will miss you pocket infinity. Even with 3 shots you were better than you are now!
-
I actually bought light/beware last night to replace PI as my secondary. These guys release a patch to put exotics on their own rightful glory or so they say and end up breaking an exotic that was perfectly fine and now I need to use a legendary in its place because of how broken it is. <3 Bungie....

Bump. This is bs and needs to be fixed.
-
I just wish I could get the pocket infinity... Keep getting the same retarded bounties over and over again.

When saying 5 rounds, you mean with extended mag right?

Edited by Gimme Your Hair: 12/3/2014 11:26:15 AMWhen you search Pocket Infinity on this app, this thread does not come up as a result. Nor does my thread come up, which also details this exact problem, and has Pocket Infinity in the title. That interests me.

Bump fix it now
