Best Melee Build in the game! Defender Titan offense [updated +PvP]

Update: After playing with this build longer I am willing to declare that it is my favourite Titan build of all. Not just because it's fun to punch things in the face (it is) but because the build is extremely effective, even on the hardest endgame content. I would even use it in the raid except for the Atheon fight and making sure not to punch fanatics. The fact that you get a recharging Force Barrier after punching something is just so good I can hardly overstate it. Also adding PvP commentary below. Note: at the time of my writing this I have this build on my Titan. Feel free to look at it on my profile but be mindful that I won't have it on all the time. Also, give this thread a bump if you find this build interesting. Criticism is of course welcome. I've been using a build for the Defender Titan subclass that is beastly and I haven't seen other people really experimenting with. It's a melee based build - the best possible in the game right now by a long shot. It aims to take full advantage of what I think is the most useful melee ability in the game: Disintegrate/Force Barrier. This is based on PvE and I have not tried using this in PvP. Here's the build: Armour and weapons Exotic: No Backup Plans Every effort should be made to maximize Strength. Intellect comes second. Discipline is not important for this build. This will not be possible for many people but Battlecage of Kabr (the raid helmet) helps a lot. Auto rifle/Shotgun/Machine gun loadout is good. Especially shotfun. Would love to try out Universal Remote but I don't have it. Monte Carlo would be GODLY with this but I don't play on PS. If you do and have Monte Carlo you can probably get away with less strength investment. Subclass perks: Grenade of your choice Jump of your choice Armor of Light (maximum damage resistance inside Ward of Dawn) Unbreakable (Force Barrier constantly recharges) Armour + battle recovery Relentless (Force Barrier is stronger and lasts longer) +All attributes Untouchable (reduces cooldown on Ward of Dawn) How to play it: With No Backup Plans and Relentless, Force Barrier lasts I think 25 seconds. If your strength is maxed out, that means that when it runs out there will only be two or three seconds before your melee is charged again. Force barrier is much stronger than your regular shield and continuously recharges, making you extremely hard to kill in this time. When fighting mobs this build allows you to chain Force Barriers virtually indefinitely. But that's not all! Ward of Dawn is also very important. Instead of seeing it as cover that buffs you like most builds, this one treats Ward of Dawn as another suit of armor. You should pop it in the midst of enemies when your Force Barrier is down and fight off enemies from within the Ward until you can charge FB again. The great thing about WoD is that the next one will be charging while you are protected. With solid Intellect and Untouchable (and especially with the raid helm if you have it) you will charge WoD very quickly so don't be afraid to use it. I've punched to death 3 sword-weilding knights inside my bubble with Armor of Light active, to give you an idea of how strong it is and why I would definitely recommend it above Blessing of Light for this build. So there you have it. An extremely satisfying build for wrecking the Darkness face to face in PvE. If you like this give the thread a bump so people can see it. PvP update: I've run this build in several PvP matches now (with scout rifle/fusion rifle/machine gun loadout) and it is definitely not underpowered but it lacks its PvE wow factor. You will only get Force Barrier occasionally but the length of time it stays with you is extremely helpful. It means that after you melee kill someone you have a marked advantage in your next encounter guaranteed. However, Force Barrier feels much weaker in PvP. It pops in seconds so you can't see yourself as a God. It's only an advantage; not virtual invulnerability. However, Armor of Light IS virtual invulnerability in PvP. Some fool is going to run in and give you a free FB and then you can basically do what you want. You will win fights with your melee inside your bubble even if someone tries to shotgun you (probably not against Invective though). I PUNCHED BLADEDANCERS TO DEATH in my bubble. It is insane. Use Armor of Light in PvP please. Unless you're playing against me. Then don't. I would suggest the suppressor grenade in PvP to shut down enemy supers and whatnot.

 • Interesting! Really close to a build I'm using in my titan. Monte Carlo Shotgun Heavy of your choice I took speed instead of recovery because force barrier is almost always active, so there is no need to recover(still need to upgrade my Monte Carlo for the reduce melee cooldown perk so that "almost" turns to "always"). And Blessing/Weapons of Light instead of the inside bubble shield, along with the increased benefits of those perks(Illumination I think?) Super fun build. I just wish the Titan's melee animation was a bit more epic. Too many right hooks. It'd be cool if they added a few more animations: left hook, uppercut, haymaker, etc. and you randomly got an animation.
