Better All Burn Weapons or Mix of Weapons on Enemy Shields?

I am not sure what works better on enemy shields for the Burn Modifiers on Strikes - like for example this weeks Void Burn Nightfall. Is it better to use all Void Weapons or to still use a Solar weapon for the Wizards shield? Does the Burn always work better, or worst (or same), as an elemental weapon on the shield of an enemy?

  • While using the correct element does do more damage to shields, it is still effective using void weapons instead.

  • Void weapons are ALMOST as effective as Solar weapons against Wizards, but there is still a small measure of resistance in their shields. it is still best to use the required element for the shields, then use Void to strike them down. It can be tricky with the knights, as they have Arc Shields, but I found using Bladedancer and grenades very effective against them when combined with suppressive fire. try to get 2 element types in your gun loadout, and use your grenades to deal the third . (e.g. Solar And Void guns, Arc Super and Grenades)

    • Best thing to do is have one guy take shields with the right element, have other guy use burn weapons to finish them.

The elemental modifier amped weapons (with the matching element) really only does bonus damage to unshielded enemies and enemies with the matching shield type. I've always found it faster to take down enemies with other shield types (a SOLAR-shielded shank on an ARC burn modified mission) with the element that corresponds to their shield (SOLAR). Once the shield is down though then switch to the element that the modifier amplifies and quickly dispatch them. Also I found that if you have an Icebreaker, Praedyth's Revenge, or Fatebringer (anything with Firefly); the weapon will do it's normal elemental damage PLUS SOLAR damage if you get a critical kill. Hope this helps :3

      • Me and a friend tag teamed it. He used VoC to take out the shield and I used zombie apocalypse with void dmg to send them to Valhalla.

      • Burn element used to work best. Since they changed the difficulty, I think it's a toss-up now. I have two Jolder's Hammer heavy machine guns. One is solar at 300, the other is void at 267. IIRC, the solar was hitting critical shots in the 400s, while the void was only showing 'resists' on shields, but they seemed to be about the same effectiveness. Several times I noticed my 300 damage void fusion rifle The Calming wasn't as near as effective as the solar burn of Ice Breaker. I really think they need to change this back to the way it was. Sure, they should lower the difficulty some for 3 person fire teams, but there was absolutely nothing wrong with the nightfall as it was before. Now, it just feels much more tedious.

      • I used a void machine gun and it ate up the shields just because it's a machine gun.

      • Better to use the burn damage

      • I just used a void fusion rifle on the nightfall and killed everything with it. Very easily..

      • Either works. Depends on your class too. If you're using a subclass with grenades of the burn type you can definitely get away with using a non burn weapon or two. I always bring along other elements just in case, but hardly end up using them.

My teammate said that the mix of weapons was better but I was doing well with all maxed void weapons.
